In January, 2019 my optometrist referred me to Minnesota Eye Consultants for cataract surgery: I no longer go to that optometrist because of the referral.

Minnesota Eye Consultants rarely returns phone calls or voicemails, which is a big customer service problem - however, considering all the reviews stating this problem, MEC doesn't think it's a problem or why wouldn't they fix it?

The cataract surgery I had there cost me 300% more than I was led to believe by the scheduler/billing There was no mention of a separate fee for the anesthesia OR that I could find my own anesthesiologist. No mention that there's a separate office visit fee each appointment, and a separate doctor fee each appointment.

One eye still had fogginess after the cataract surgery, so they did a capsulotomy - but it didn't change a thing & I still have the same amount of fogginess in that eye. MEC charged me $1592 for that 15-minute office visit, which didn't include the $856 doctor bill for the 2-minute procedure. I was in disbelief.

All this was after they initially gave me the incorrect lens during the first cataract surgery! A miscommunication within their office, between the doctor and one of her team members. When I realized, as the day wore on after surgery, I'd been given the wrong lens I was really upset. I called in a panic, and the doctor's staff initially tried to blame me for their communication problems! What did they do about it? Nothing.

The communication problem is a BIG PROBLEM at Minnesota Eye Consultants. I wish I'd known about it before going there - I'd have saved myself money by going elsewhere, and more importantly I believe I'd be able to see better today if I had gone elsewhere.

RE: Patient advocacy response. I sent a long letter to MN Eye Consultants a couple months before this posting. No surprise, never received a reply or any communication. The response to this review is the first confirmation they've heard a word I said.
