My husband and I had an amazing time during our honeymoon at sandals. The rooms were gorgeous and our over the water bungalow was top notch. Our butlers Anthony and sherry Ann and Marjorie and Delroy truly helped make our experience at the resort ten times better. There were also other staff members such as shamar and devoy (bartenders) and Elmo (entertainment) who also helped contributed to the wonderful experience we had and were such amazing and friendly people. Unfortunately a couple of things including a shrimp incident during our candlelight dinner left a sour taste and contributes to just the 4 stars. On our first day there, we decided to get into the pool and literally 5 minutes later I had stepped on a metal wire that was sticking straight up at the bottom of the pool. The wire got lodged into my foot and I had to get taken to the nurse, as it was pretty painful to get pulled out of my foot. The theory was that one of the wire bristles from the pool brush must have fallen off as they were brushing the pool
In the morning and was just sticking straight up waiting for someone to step on it. You would think management would have stopped by to offer some sort of apology, but nope. Anyway, after the wire was removed and I was bandaged, it didn t hurt as bad anymore and I wasn t going to let that ruin my honeymoon. a couple of days later as we were having our candlelight beach dinner I felt a weird tingle in my throat. It was very dark because we chose the later time so my husband used his phone to shine a light on our food and we found shrimp in my meal (im allergic). Luckily our dinner was set up pretty much in front of our room so I was able to run to the room and pop 3 Benadryl. 10 minutes later my mouth and throat stopped tingling and swelling and I became extremely drowsy. We never made it back out to finish dinner or dessert. We had chosen our meals for the dinner the day before. They provide you with a menu that includes a description of the food. Nowhere in the description did it note any shrimp for my meal. Apparently the chef decided to get creative and add some ingredients. Just so happened that he added the one thing I m allergic to and can close my throat, preventing me from breathing. We were eventually refunded for the candlelight dinner (it took a couple of days) but we weren t offered another one. Our servers and butlers were extremely apologetic but the hotel manager that finally came to see us was not so apologetic. My new, protective husband was obviously really upset over this incident and was extremely upset that we never got to finish the dinner, that it ruined our whole night because the medicine had me in bed by like 9pm and it continued to affect me into the next morning because I was so groggy from it. All the hotel manager offered was a refund, nothing for the night I missed out on or an apology for almost killing me. All he said was that he has a medical background (not knowing that my husband and I do as well and that I worked in pharmacy) and tried to downplay the effects of Benadryl when my husband was explaining how it impacted my night and next morning (because I m 100 pounds and rarely take medicine). The manager tried to say that Benadryl affects everyone differently, which is entirely true, but regardless it still causes unusual drowsiness in people which is why it is universal to warn everyone taking it to not operate heavy machinery while on it. He was absolutely not sympathetic at all for basically poisoning me and ruining a whole night, which put a huge damper on our honeymoon. Besides that, we had an over the water bungalow that was supposed to come with club Mobay for our departure at the airport. When we went to the club Mobay desk we found out that sandals never set up club Mobay for us like they were supposed to, which is a disappointment considering how much money you pay for the over the water bungalow. Other than that, we made the best out of our honeymoon and went on awesome excursions and got some massages.
