Food was very good as usual but I have to say that...

Food was very good as usual but I have to say that our service was horrible! Our server was nice enough but lacked training as well as common sense. During our 45 minute stay I was told I wasn't allowed to sub a small amount of coleslaw for the steak fries, coffee was not refilled (the table next to us had to shout for him to refill theirs, again he walked right by us with a full coffee pot? He didn't check back to ask how things were after starting our meal. He walked by several times not paying attention to our table or the one next to us. We sat for quite a while before he finally realized that we might be done, asked me if I wanted a box, came back with the box and our check.....never asked us if we wanted any thing else and never said Thank you for coming - not a word! Just placed the check on the table and walked away. We watched him doing absolutely nothing but chatting with the other employees the entire time we were there.
When paying our bill, the girl asked how everything was so we told her that the food was good but the service was horrible. She said that they were in shift transition so that's probably why the service was bad.......it was 1:45 pm! Does that mean the staff can only be friendly and professional during certain times? That was a bad answer.
We aren't usually the type to complain, but when the service is that bad, I feel you should know so you can properly train your staff. I've done a lot of serving in the past and most of what happened today only takes common sense.
