Kevin T Review of La Honas (Chambe d'hôtes)
I dont necessarily live a "fabulous" lifestyle man...
I dont necessarily live a "fabulous" lifestyle many folks around the hotel seem to live, but even with that in mind, it was tough not to give 2 stars.
The GOOD:
- The location....i can't say anything more other than it is in a prime spot next to the beach. It is SUPER convenient to get to sandy area and i consider it walk-able to the boardwalk. Location itself might be a reason to stay here.
- Staff at the bar in the lobby was nice, pleasant, and efficient with the service.
The BAD (Warning - its a bit long):
HOTEL itself - Hotel is what i would consider, pretty average. The amentities have even less than what i would say average hotels comes includes. Pool is pretty small (average size of someone's home pool) and ridiculously crowded. There were probably like 30 people there and yes, that was enough to make it crowded.
- We stayed in one of their Bungalows, which they seem to consider a premium room. It was a pretty average room with a large amount of decorations to make it feel "higher class". Even our friends that were staying in the main rooms were NOT impressed. Bungalows were also very VERY close to the outdoor activities where it was super noisy.
STAFF - Overall staff was pretty friendly. But it wasn't very convenient that we were told nothing during the check in. No wifi, no description of where restuarants were or their hours, no luggage service (we would have refused anyways but still would have been nice to ask), nothing....again they were friendly.
ADDITIONAL CHARGES...oh the charges!!!
- typically these days when leaving a hotel and didnt use any of the minibar/amenities, we just leave and let the hotel auto check out. Fortunately we didnt do that as the first thing the front desk staff asked was "did you use our valet service? No? Okay we'll take that charge off then.? Wait what?! why was there even a charge in the first place and what would have happened if we didnt actually check out?
- Was supposed to get the invoiced emailed but nope. Our CC got over charge (what we considered over charge), and finally got the invoice. These are the ADDITIONAL CHARGES (per day) that we were not aware of:
1.Occupancy Tax
2.TMD Assessment
3.California Tourism Assessment
4.Property Based Assessment District
5.Hotel Amenity Charge
After calculating the additional cost per day, it equates to about 25% of the room cost. So we paid 125% of the room cost per day. Paying the fees is not the problem. Charging without notice is the problem.
Hotel is not bad and definitely would stay again if i HAD to, but it isnt impressing anyone other than maybe your bank.
