Family was looking forward to staying at Disney property in Hawaii as we have been regular guests at Disneyworld properties for the past decade. The pool area was great with an awesome lazy river. Room was good sized with decent amenities, however, the beds were hard and the safe was small. View from the room was great and we tried to be up in the room around sunset everyday since the sunset view was spectacular. The service at the hotel was good but I did not feel that they strove for the same magical experience which I was accustomed to in Orlando. Beach was nice. The water in the lagoon is very mild which is probably good for younger guests but, in my opinion, a bit boring for older guests. The traffic to get to/from the Ko Olina (Aulani location) is awful during the week. It took well over an hour to go about 10 miles toward Honolulu Airport then, luckily, there was a commuter/express lane which took us the rest of the way to the airport with minimal delays. Kapolei is close by with shopping (Target) and restaurants but traffic caused this to be 30-45 minutes each way. There are some restaurants and shopping within walking distance but the choices are limited. Aulani was the most expensive stay per night during our Hawaii vacation but I feel that it did not justify the value. I cannot strongly recommend due to the location/traffic and high price point. However, I do recommend this resort for families with young children (10 and under) since I believe that the resort is best suited to this demographic.
