My mother was a resident for almost 5 years, until her death, in the skilled nursing unit at Franke. I was continually dismayed and shattered by the standard of care. A few examples of the "care" she received: during her first several months there she fell and suffered a neck fracture, I found that her pain patch (that was supposed to be changed weekly) had not been changed for 10 days, more than once I found her lying or sitting in a brief that was saturated with urine and feces -this was followed by skin break down. These are just a few examples. The turnover in staff was dizzying to me. It seemed that most of the really good and caring nurses and aides left within months. There were exceptions to this. There were some very dedicated and excellent staff-but they were few. In my opinion, the problems stemmed with those in charge and trickled down. I met with and communicated with administrators, head nurses, etc on an ongoing basis- but did not see significant constructive changes.
