So I went in last January. I had a stroke 7 years ago and was at Christ hospital (fyi great hospital and stsff). Went in cause I was having some related issues that would concern any person who had a stroke before. They ran test, gave IV . All this time I am on the emergency room gurney, and also in the hospital gown. Had one sheet to use also. They told me they were keeping me 24 hours for observation. During an x-ray the guy there asked me if I would like a pillow so I could actually use my sheet to cover up with (was using sheet as pillow). They told me I would be moved to a room. A room never came up. Around about 2 in the morning I had to call the nursing station from my cell phone for them to come check on me and let me use the restroom. So I never got moved to a room, and in the morning I have become quite aggravated and no doctor or nurse really seemed to care that much. So 4 months later I get a bill. Keep in mind I was in the emergency room less then 24 hours. The bill is go $18,000 and was due in 30 days. Granted the insurance I had at the time was horrible also, but less then 24 hours and $18k? Yeah wow. My stroke with 3 weeks in the hospital, physical therapy, and test. All about $80K before my insurance took care of it. So now they have turned into collections, because everyone they call me i am at work, and when I am off work they are not in so it has been a bit hard to connect. Now they have turned it into collections, and I am having to take time off work just to get some answers to help get this taken care of. Talked with 3 different people, and they keep transferring me to different departments. Still haven't got to talk to someone who actually seems like they care about patients. So can totally see where health care needs to change. The hospitals aren't showing that they are there for their patients especially if your gonna charge them $18k and not even put them in a room, give a blanket, or even a pillow. Definitely shows mainly there for the money. Whether you can pay it or not. $18k well that's half a years salary that they are charging me for not even 24 hours. Mainly will never go there again.
