I went in for a warranty repair on my 2012 VW CC with 90,000 miles on it. The timing chain had fell off and destroyed the engine from the cylinder head up. When I brought it in and they determined the extent of the damage I recall them making significant mention of how I was lucky that the bottom end of the engine was not destroyed as well and that usually when the timing chain comes off it destroys the whole engine requiring a whole new engine. Well they did the repair and less than a tank of gas later, about 250 miles, the connecting rod failed punching a hole through the block. When I called them and told them about it I was basically told sorry good luck with your problem and have a nice day because this is not our problem. My mechanic proxied for me, talking to them and they deny even touching anything below the head despite the fact that you do have to get into the bottom part of the engine to some degree to get the timing chain repaired. This also tells me that they lied or did a poor job of inspecting the lower part of the block in determining the extent of the damage incurred as a result of the original breakdown. Now I'm left with a scrap vehicle and $9,000 on my loan. This is my VW experience learn from my lesson do not buy these over-engineered poorly manufactured vehicles.
