It's hard to find a more iconic and memorable hotel and casino in Las Vegas than the Flamingo Las Vegas Hotel & Casino. Yeah, it's a bit dated now, but without the Flamingo who knows if we would have the same Las Vegas strip that we have today. Here are a few fun facts about the Flamingo: The Flamingo site occupies 40 acres originally owned by one of Las Vegas' first settlers, Charles "Pops" Squires. Squires paid $8.75 an acre for the land. In 1947 Bugsy Siegel (the mobster) lead the development of the original Fabulous Flamingo.
