I know Lollypop does a lot for animals and the community. But we had a poor experience adopting our kitty and it left us disappointed and frustrated.
Last week we brought home Hazel. The employee explained to my wife that the cat had an allergy/skin condition and was on a special diet. Our daughter's heart was set on her, and it didn't sound like an issue. The employee specifically said her food could be bought at PetSaver and that she was NOT allowed dry food.
Okay, great so far.
We were given a couple cans of her food and when my wife got home, she noticed it said it was a Veterinary Exclusive and a prescription food. When I went to PetSaver over the weekend, they of course did NOT carry it, like we feared. Our vet appointment wasn't until Monday, so we weren't sure what to feed her. I called Lollypop and while they were nice enough to give us a couple more cans to get us through, I had to drive an hour to pick it up and was almost late to my nephew's graduation party. The first lady I tried to talk to at the counter was reading a book and refused to look up. After a minute, I went around the side and talked to another woman, who had the bag of food. She quickly pointed out that we signed a medical release form, which had no bearing on our issue. She then admitted the employee did remember telling us we could buy the food at the store, but was wrong. Finally, she said there was also a bag of dry food for us. I explained we were told the cat wasn't allowed dry food, and she just stared at me and reiterated what was in the bag. Come to find out after the vet visit, the dry food was the same as the wet food, and after a call back to Lollypop...she WAS eating dry food while there. Not only that, we were given the wrong information about how much food to feed her so she was practically starving the first couple days. The vet has since fixed her diet and she has been a happy, well fed kitty.
Again, I know Lollypop does so much good and one bad experience isn't the norm. But it was OUR bad experience. The next time we're ready for another furry friend, we will search elsewhere. The lack of attention to detail wasn't just an inconvenience to us, it was potentially harmful to our new friend.
