I would not recommend anyone going to UNC Health C...

I would not recommend anyone going to UNC Health Care, GI department!!! Wife had a procedure done in this facility & our experience was far from basic care expected. My wife is a 25 year RN, with most of those years in the OR & recovery room (PACU). When you go into a medical facility to get a surgical procedure done, especially a facility the size of UNC Health Care, you should be able to get basic care expectations at the very least.

The Dr/Surgen May have done a good job, time will tell, but from the pain/soreness she is experiencing she has several opinions on what probably happen in the OR. She came out of OR with a fat lip & a cut under her lip that we didn t discover until the swelling went down. The care the recovery nurse gave was so sub par I could have done a better job & I m definitely not a caregiver. No pain meds where given & when my wife ask for some, just to get her home, the nurse pretty much ignored the request. Probably cause it would have created more paperwork & time for the nurse. All though she finally came back with a prescription for pain meds but we live 2 1/2 hours away. I could go on all day with care not given but I ll move on. The PACU department is so disorganized, it was pretty much open to any & all foot traffic that wants to come & go, not a protected area at all. The staff was so miss matched in clothing (uniform) you couldn't tell who was staff, patients or pedestrians.

Short & sweet, if you have available to you any other options, other than this facility, you should seriously consider taking those options before coming to UNC Heath Care. This place brings into reality how state government facilities are run, even though we always think surely they aren t that bad.

Oh yea, I can t leave this out! On our way home, I stopped at a Dollar General on the outskirts of Chapel Hill to buy a bottle of Tylenol for my wife s pain just to get her home. Sad!
