It just looks good. but ... the reality is different. For four stars and the proud nightly price of 300 euros in the premium category, you get a spectacular view of a bay, but directly under the balcony there is also a large and extremely loud motor that is responsible for cleaning the pool water, and that roars all around the clock. On the balcony there are no partitions and therefore no privacy. There is no shower curtain in the bathroom, nor is there a second room key (actually a matter of course). Breakfast buffet rather modest and you can't sit outside either.
The biggest disappointment, however, is Taormina itself. We were here in 2003 and then impressed by the lovely romantic atmosphere, in the evening after 8pm, when the hordes of day-trippers are gone.
Nothing at all can be felt any more. Even in the evening it is only full, loud and noisy. The worst part is the lighting. Where back then there were magical pans with oil lamps on the alleyways and winding stairs, there are now only ugly, bright energy-saving lamps. Creepy. You can no longer go here. Taormina is dead - a victim of mass tourism. Too bad.
