I took my family to the Black Mountain Lodge and Restaurant earlier this week for dinner, mainly because they were the only place in the area that was open on a Monday night, and we were pleasantly surprised by a delightful experience.

I was a little unsure what to expect when we first walked in and saw that the only other patrons were sitting at the bar, but I loved the warm and comfy log cabin feel of the place, so we grabbed a seat in the dining room and began scoping out the menu. We ultimately landed on a pepperoni pizza, which ended up being bigger than we expected, and a combo meal consisting of a special Buffalo roast beef sandwich, half a dozen wings, and a side of fries. All of it was fantastic. The Kummelweck bun on the roast beef sandwich was a novelty for me and I'm glad I gave it a try, because it was great. All in all, we were very happy with the food.

Finally, although the atmosphere and the food were good, what made the meal truly exceptional was the service. Apparently, something went awry in the kitchen after we ordered our food because it took quite awhile for it to come out, however the owner/manager/chef came out to our table on his own initiative to make amends and it was greatly appreciated. My family and I were visiting the area from the other side of the country, so he wasn't exactly in danger of losing a regular, which indicates to me that it just seemed like the right thing to do, and those are the places that I am most eager to support with my business.

The staff shirts at this place proclaim that it is the place where the locals go, and after visiting myself, I can understand why.
