Kelly T Review of The Peninsula Hong Kong

High tea at the Peninsula was not quite what we expected. The lobby was very nice and the string music was lovely, but tea was mass produced, identical towers of tea sandwiches and scones first come, first served. That would have been alright if the service and food quality were good, but the service was the worst. We had to flag servers down to order, to get things throughout the tea and to get the check. When I signed the check, the server was in such a hurry that he tried to tear the folio and pen out of my hands while I was still trying to get my copy of the receipt out. The sweets and finger sandwiches were pretty but not overly tasty. The tea itself (particularly the Peninsula Breakfast Blend) was quite good. The scones were decent and had more of a soda bread consistency but were lacking something, perhaps salt. We noticed that a lot of people left much of their food. The prices were reasonable for the venue, about $50 USD per person for high tea, but the actual experience seems to be mainly a touristy photo opportunity.
