Stayed here for 3 nights this past weekend. It was an amazing experience & was most definitely the best customer service I had experienced. This review may get pretty long so for those of you that want the highlights:
- Hot tub is open till 1am every night. Pretty good size. No pool
- After hours dining goes literally all night and has AMAZING food from the Barking Frog. Try the Margarita Pizza or the Turkey Melt. Pricing is very reasonable as well.
- Live music every Fri & Sat night in the fireside lounge, local artists.
- Complimentary bike rentals.
- Don't be turned away at the price of the rooms. You truly get what you pay for.
- Everything is within walking distance
Moving on.. I had read many reviews before making my reservation and most everyone commented on the customer service, so I had high expectations going in. The bell boy gave us a glass of wine and helped check us in. He then took us up to the room and spent about 15 minutes with us going over all of the wineries, breweries and distilleries in the area. Sure, some of the comments he made about some of the places were exaggerated, but overall it was a nice touch. Upon arriving the lodge also gave us a card, chocolates and a complimentary bottle of wine because we were celebrating our 1st Wedding Anniversary. The card was also hand written which thoughtful. The rooms are great. However, I was not a big fan of the beds surprisingly. They were not as comfortable as I would have expected, but other than that everything else was fantastic. Their digital showers were a nice touch as well. You can adjust the temp or the water pressure at a click of a button.
FOOD- we pretty much ate at the Barking Frog for breakfast each day and one night for dinner. Food is spot on, absolutely amazing. I especially love how when my husband and I were going to split something, they did it for us rather than just giving us extra plates. This is one of the only places to eat breakfast in the area. I HIGHLY recommend reservations for each meal you would like to eat there.. seating is limited and they are very busy. Another option would be the Commons down the road (walking distance). The place can get very busy and loud too though. For lunch- there are many options along the strip, but Redhook is right next door and they have a good selection. For dinner or late day snack... also check out the fireside lounge next to the lobby. Good food and some good drinks.
AREA- Most of the wineries and such are within walking distance, HOWEVER when walking toward Chateau/Columbia/JM- there are no sidewalks so be careful, especially walking up the hill to JM. You will want to split your time up and perhaps do the wineries one day and then the tasting rooms another day. We did that and still didn't do all of the tasting rooms.
Overall, for the price you pay at this lodge, you really feel like you are getting what you paid for. It truly is a place to go and relax with your husband/wife/partner. Very romantic and peaceful. Highly recommend it!
