Excellent venue. Massive stage but still feels intimate. Good surtitles for operas. Very good sound system. Should be 6 out of 5.
However a significant negative issue is to do with getting refreshments. There is no point in trying to queue, (as many do), because the staff serve whoever shouts or pushes forwards. Since many of the audience are fairly elderly this was obviously very distressing for some people. Always stand at the front, even if the crowd us thickest there. It's as if nobody's told them that their professionalism is also part of the customer experience.
I complained but the staff, including one whi seened like a supervisor, did not accept what I said and actually ganged up on me, ignoring the queue. I'm 6'3" and 15 stone so I'm not easily intimidated but I imagine that a majority of the audience are fairly genteel and would be upset by such staff reactions to criticism.
Pity. This spoiled a good, and expensive, evening for a number of people there. (Oddly, the staff with vending trays only began appearing about 5 minutes after the big queue formed.)
