I was very happy initially when I took in my prescription and paid up front for my order - what I had expected to be Rayban glasses with photochromic/transition lenses. I twice explained to the optician that that was part of my desired and required order. My partner was also with me for an eye test and heard me say it also. I spelled out that 'they act also as my sunglasses; I want them to tint in the sun.'

I phoned back a few days following collection - it had became apparent that they were not affected by heat/strong light at all. I was told that I had to pay another $185, but it would be reduced to $100 as a 'goodwill gesture.'

During discussions with the optician in question, I asked what, if anything, I had done wrong in terms of the order. She replied, "nothing, I probably didn't hear you." To add insult to (financial) injury, when the new lenses were inserted, I left the clinic and walked a few blocks to find that one of the lenses was either the wrong size or hadn't been inserted properly! I had to return once again to Seattle Eye for this to be remedied.

Having asked for a review of this entirely appalling set of circumstances, the receptionist said my request for the $100 extra fee to be reconsidered was putting her in a 'tight bind' or words to that effect. Little or no regard was shown to me as the customer. The response from the director earlier today - according to the optician - was essentially that I had been given a 'generous discount.' Apparently, me paying an extra $100 beyond what I had initially ordered is something to be grateful for?

The text message response also asked if I would like my details to be passed onto a other optical shop(!?) I fail to see any relevance in this latter point. No thanks on that score anyway!

Overall, good product, but totally wish I'd never set foot in there in the first place, given the entire fiasco. If this how a 'family owned company' (in the words of today's SMS from Seattle Eye), then maybe I should have gone to the three other larger providers that the same message referred to...
