We attended an outing at Great Wolf Lodge in Gurnee, Illinois for a weekend, in October, with the Tourette Association of Illinois. This outing was for families that had children with Tourette Syndrome. This location is new to the area but was previously a water park by a different name and taken over by Great Wolf Lodge. They obviously made some improvements. It is very conveniently located, just off the Interstate and tons of shopping nearby, as well as the Amusement Park, Great America. I doubt you would have time though to leave the hotel as there is plenty to keep you entertained within the hotel itself. There is an extra cost involved if you want to partake in the other activities other than the waterpark area, such as MagiQuest, the Arcade, Mining for gems, or special bowling. The MagiQuest at this location is different to the Wisconsin Dells location. This Magiquest has all the quests scattered throughout the hotel. They do not have a main area just for MagiQuest play. They did give our son a map that showed him where to go. If we go again next year, he will still have quests left that he can do. The rooms and hotel seemed pretty clean in general. I had a hard time sleeping on the firm mattress, but I am very partial to my own adjustable, memory foam bed at home. Our biggest area of complaint would be the food availability and pricing. It was great that they had a Dunkin' Donuts within the facility, but the line at 8:15 a.m. on Sunday was 40 minutes to wait in. Our son is 13 years old and still has many food sensory issues, so feeding him here was not easy. There was cheese pizza, so that was a bonus. There did seem to be a variety of choices for the average person to eat though. The prices were just on the high side. Overall, we did have a nice time. I actually brought my laptop with in order to get some bills done and other things, and the internet was very good.
