A very fine collection, not only rich in Irish and British paintings but also very good examples from the Italian, Spanish, Flemish and Dutch schools. It even had a collection of ancient icons. Some rooms are really spectacular, like the big one with dark green walls where they exhibit Irish and British masterpieces from Reynolds, Gainsborough, Raeburn, Romney or Opie among others. An excellent collection of contemporary Irish and international art balances the old masters collection.
The museum might not be as famous as its namesake in London, or hold as many well known paintings but the Goya paintings in its collections are better than anything in London. And some masterpieces are first class works of art. In my opinion a must for art lovers when in Dublin.
