Consider this a cautionary tale. Last week we went to the Florida Gulf (North Reddington Beach) at the Double tree Hotel. Amazing beach front view. And every room had a balcony, even the rooms with a bay view. So we were treated to this amazing room, gulf view, and everyone at the hotel was amazing. From Mr. Jim who helped us with our luggage, to Tonya the amazing waitress who served us lunch. And Silvia our housekeeper from Columbia. So we came home feeling totally pampered. Not because it was a super luxury hotel but because everyone we met was dedicated to making our stay exceptional.

So we drive back home, wash laundry and the next day, head over to the Jekyll Island Westin. In the interest of full disclosure, we drove through a thunderstorm for two hours to get to the coast. We get checked in and our room was.....horrible, abysmal. Like worst hotel room in the last 35 years bad. . 2nd floor over the loading dock for the hotel. While I was observing this, a huge bag of garbage was exiting the hotel. So we were paying the convention rate, plus the resort fee for the privilege of watching them empty garbage. Great public spaces, wonderful beaches, and great staff (Fredrick, the guy who helped us with our luggage is a great representative for Westin). Everyone at Westin management told us to....pound sand. Very politely. And I should state that I attempted to head this off by trying to get a decent room months ahead of time and would be very happy to pay a much higher room fee, like $100 a night to make my wife happy. Tried to do this but no dice. So be VERY CAREFUL about booking a room here. A substantial portion of the rooms overlock the loading docks, generators and parking lots. And they will tell you sorry but we can t help you. If our convention is here next year, we are booking at the hotel next door. The rooms may $100 more a night but at least I won t be in a dump...

I am giving this two stars instead of one because of Fredrick. Hope he gets a promotion, even though it was his second day on the job.
