I don't know how this place makes money, they have price matching with any large online retailer and sometimes beat online retailers

If you are building your own PC, buy CPU (almost always cheaper during sale) + any price matched items then buy GPU online for best price

Been going here for over a decade

I'll never buy an expensive computer part anywhere else. Great warranties and customer service, plus they always price match Amazon and Newegg, on top of offering their own special promotions (ie buy a mobo and a cpu together, get $40 off). If you're building a work/battle station it's hands down the best spot

If you need components in the Boston metro area there aren't a lot of choices. This is a smaller Micro Center compared to many of their locations in other states. As such, selection can be thin for some items, especially if you've ever been to a Fry's Electronics out west. Their sales prices are decent and stock availability on their website seems accurate.

My first experience at Microcenter, I brought my PC in to the repair department. They were nothing but professional and personable. You could tell they were incredibly busy given how life has changed in regards to working and schooling from home, but they still kept in touch with me and I had my PC back in just a matter of days (I was fully expecting at least a week because anyone who has troubleshot a problematic PC knows how truly time consuming and frustrating it can be).

They have a large quantity of items and the people were helpful, they pushed their warranty a bit, as I expected. My friend and i spent a lot of time looking around and the prices on a lot of the stuff were better than online, one of the few places that has that. Checkout took a bit if a while because I picked up a cpu, and I think the guy there may have been newer, but I didn't mind. I think it's a great place to buy electronics and parts if you want to get it in person. I was surprised to see how many older people were shopping there, I expected young people like myself, while they were the majority, I can see that older people aren't afraid to shop there for electronics. I would definately reccomend shopping there, the prices are good, they have a large array of items, and the employees are helpful and nice.

The only brick and mortar store in New England that rivals online electronics retailers in terms of price. Endless selection of desktops, laptops, tablets, upgrades, and accessories. Above average inventory of electronic components for hobbyists (prototyping, boards, projects, drones, etc.). They have huge discounts on clearance and open-box items as well, which are listed on their website along with the rest of their products. Definitely worth a look before ordering online.

Still going strong after all these years.
You can get almost everything online now, but it's always good to have things in your hands.
Prices are average (not excessively high or low), but they have almost everything you could need in stock.

Wow, let me start by saying if you were thinking about starting a build, do not use Micro Center!

if you re thinking to yourself, Well I really don t wanna wait for all the parts to ship if I order them online. Go ahead and consider that your best option.

it s pretty obvious that the sales people are only concerned with just that, sales. they don t concern themselves with compatibility and everyone from the customer service department to the sales team is pretty unknowledgeable. You can tell because when you ask a specific question they usually don t have the answer. They ll just give you the answer to a question they do know which is usually them selling you something different to fit their agenda/make them seem like they understand.

Five weeks and $1500 later I wish I had just done all of the work online and had a professional technician build it for me.

remember to get some ice coffee before updating your microsofts

Seriously though, this is one of the better in person selections of computer parts and knowledgeable helpful people for said parts. Never let me down, never gave me up, never ran around and deserted me. They have politely said goodbye, however they have not told me any lies, nor have they hurt me.

This is the last bastion of great computer stores. It has a national audience in several key spots inside the country allowing it to have very reasonable pricing. It has a great staff of knowledgeable individuals and has just enough of the entertainment side of the computer industry to make it valuable to even the most modest PC user. It is one of five stores in the greater Boston vicinity that I consider a go to for my Christmas shopping. Check out the register aisle and clearance specials in every department for some really great ideas

I have been looking at Lenovo's online, hoping to switch back to being a PC after years with a Mac. I found it difficult to distinguish between reviews and felt nervous that I'd end up with a half-functioning refurb. I decided to head over to Micro Center to ask questions and test-drive a few computers. They were so helpful and responsive to all my questions and needs, and I ended up with a nicely refurbed computer that I really like. Their staff was friendly--Celbin helped me and was awesome--and I even met the manager. I even got the computer for less than I would have online! 100% worth heading over if you're thinking about buying a new machine. This place rocks.

Go there often because you can find all Electronics under one roof. Staff is friendly and welcoming and always there to assist, however this review is about a staff member who's name is Angel.

I needed to get the battery for the Car starter Fob, however didn't know how to open. It was 5 to 10 min min of work. When others didn't want to put an effort, Angel put in his 10 min of time and made it happen. That's what I call Above & beyond help. Today I went for something else and he assisted me with excellent info of his knowledge. He should be recognized to go extra mile.

This is my experience with the Microcenter store in Cambridge.

There really is no way to say it otherwise: this is my go-to computer store. Over the years, it has begun to lack in stock for peripherals such as headphones, mice, and most of all joysticks, but that has less to do with the store and more to do with the change in computer trends. Despite this, when it comes to computer hardware and building your own PC, this store has always had everything that I needed or could ever want. Every employee I've ever spoken to there either knows the products to the nose, or knows someone in the store that does and directs me to them. I've run into a few employees that shouldn't have been employees, but they were at least smart enough to call the curmudgeonly veteran to assist me.

I'll never forget the old man working in the store who walked up to my shopping cart, told me that he had tried and failed the build that I was attempting, and advised different products (a different motherboard, specifically) which became my rig for 5 years.

I am sad that the Cambridge location no longer has a gaming section, and that their peripherals are scant in terms of variety. Unfortunately, they have done this as a result of consumer preferences. When no one buys joysticks, when an entire section of the store dedicated to gaming makes little revenue, and when people tend to purchase very particular brands of peripherals, I can't totally blame the store for tuning the floor to what makes them money. Still, it's frustrating that I have to use Amazon or Newegg for these things.

Yet, Microcenter has been at this location as long as I can remember. I remember my father bringing me here for his own needs, and I now find myself to be a loyal customer. It is not simply nostalgia that brings me back, but the good customer service, the knowledgeable staff (I've always managed to get them), and - most importantly - the store policies. The return policies are a far cry from ten or twenty years ago, but are still quite fair. The protection plans are a bit pricy, but end up being a steal with items that are wont to break (like headphones).

I don't know what other locations are like, but the Cambridge Microcenter has been my go-to for years and, barring any dramatic shift, will continue to be.

Edited to add in light of reading other reviews: the very few times that I have attempted to call the Cambridge store, I have run into trouble. Yet, I am a walk-in kind of person, so this does not affect my review. If you're a call-in kind of person, beware.

Ordered a wireless keyboard from Staples which arrived with no dongle. Returned it at store, they had no replacement keyboard in stock. Went to your store, your salesman hooked me right up with the keyboard I wanted! Wish I had gone to you first and saved time and headaches because you actually stock product and actually have trained sales personnel.

I already liked this store because the staff are super knowledgeable and helpful, but the other day I forgot my backpack with all my ID in the store. One of the managers, Cirron, went out of his to help me get them back, despite it being out of store hours. Now I love this store even more.
