WHO: 20-something bibliophile, who worries about the future of brick-and-mortar bookstores

WHEN: Sunday afternoon, 1 hour before closing

WHY: to check off another DMV bookstore on my ever-shrinking list

THOUGHTS: Boy, that I'd've known about this place earlier! A unique breed of bookstore, this "warehouse" specializes in remainders, which I learned is simply overstock sold at reduced prices. I also was expecting more of a warehouse feel but was more pleasantly surprised at finding it to be regular retail. Thus, the products are new but cheap, and the bookstore doesn't have the sterilized feel of Barnes and Noble, nor is it the haphazard assortment of used bookstores, but a perfect middle point of the two. I like to buy books whose royalties support the authors (but which won't break my budget) , as I'm assuming these books do. The products are relevant and robust, and include many popular titles. Above all, the prices are very reasonable. I easily went around the store grabbing titles that caught my attention and still stayed below $80 come checkout. I'm not sure how often the store refreshes their inventory, but I'll definitely stop by the next time I'm thereabouts, to see what jewels I'll uncover. Didn't have much in the way of foreign language material, but understood why after learning about store operations. Quiet atmosphere (didn't even notice the lack of music), great fengshui, and helpful and inviting staff. Definitely recommend!

If you are a booklover this place is for you! I have been visiting this store for over 10 years for discounted books...the prices used to be better in the past. Still, good for finding all types of books at decent prices. I also love to pick up journals and other stocking stuffers here around holidays.

Extraordinary prices, big selection and great music (to all you Beatles fans out there, this is the place to go). The books here are litterally never exceed $10. Most are around the $5 range. Great and friendly staff...like no other and huge selection. I'd go here over BN any day.

I am changing my review of Daedalus from 5 stars to 2 stars in light of changes that were made at the company in February 2018. Today, I attempted to place an order online. Found out that my account no longer works. I wasn't able to create a new account because old information -- an e-mail address I no longer use, a physical address and phone number I haven't used in 10 years -- popped up and there was no way to get rid of them. I attempted to sign out, but there was no way to sign out without closing the browser and losing the 14 books I had in my basket. I tried to use the "Live Chat" feature and found out that Daedalus has outsourced to India. The customer service rep didn't know how to sign out of the account. I tried to call Daedalus by phone. The phone rang at least 10 times before anyone answered. The person who answered had a limited grasp of English. I then spoke with a manager, who couldn't help me. I am very disappointed to learn that Daedalus is under new management. I always had been very pleased with their service. My original review, written several years ago when I was delighted with the company, is below:

I have been a Daedalus Books customer for many years. I'm always poring over one of their catalogues, plotting my next purchase. (I mail-order from them. Shipping prices are very reasonable.) Daedalus has introduced me to many wonderful authors over the years, including Philip K. Dick, J. Sheridan Le Fanu, Edmund Crispin, Susanna Clarke, and D.J. Taylor. Their books are a fantastic deal (especially the fine art books). One of the things I love most about Daedalus is that they package the books carefully. I've gotten to the point where I won't buy books from Amazon anymore because every hardcover I order from them arrives with a damaged book jacket -- either it's ripped or crumpled up or the book cover itself is bent. In contrast, Daedalus books are carefully stacked and then wrapped in bubble-wrap and secured inside the box with cardboard and styrofoam. I really appreciate this.

I've been a very happy customer for many years, and being somewhat of a bibliophile and an avid reader, but having limited means, I love having Daedalus Books at my disposal, with their amazing prices and impressive inventory!
Every one of my (very few) contacts with the Customer Service Department has been pleasant and satisfying, and I find dealing with knowledgeable, LIVE human beings who work within the U.S.A. refreshing!
Most of the books and other items I purchase from DB are gifts. I've never received a damaged package, and orders arrive complete and in the same condition as when they left the warehouse.
I withheld the fifth star and gave DB four stars because, as wonderful as I think they are, they're not perfect. There have been perhaps three times when I've found a book in disappointing condition, having nothing to do with packaging or shipping. One book's pages were badly yellowed around the edges, and I recall another that had severely defective printing on the back cover. Such books are fine for my own use, but are certainly not suitable for gift-giving.
In the DB catalog, customers are informed when hardcover editions are missing a dust cover, or jacket. It seems that other defects, such as the ones I just described, could and should be similarly disclosed.
When I ask a mail-order company for a catalog, I make sure I request, clearly and in writing, that my personal information not be shared in ANY fashion, with ANYone, for ANY reason. However, following my request for a catalog from DB (they were my very FIRST book catalog) I recieved a nearly-overwhelming barrage of catalogs from other companies selling books, music, DVDs, and even calendars! There's no question but that DB traded, sold, or otherwise shared my information against my wishes.
For ignoring my request for privacy, DB probably should lose the fourth star. But I'm prepared to give them the benefit of that "shadow of a doubt" you hear about. They're just too good a company for just three stars!
I'm happy to HEARTILY RECOMMEND Daedalus Books to readers like me or for those who might buy one book, CD, or DVD on a blue moon. In my opinion, they're a deserving company!

Book bargains in a friendly and unpretentious environment. Great, affordable children's books, excellent Philosophy, History, LGBT books, and literary fiction sections.

Their selection varies week-to-week, so it's more a place to browse and see what you find rather than hunt down a specific book or edition. That said, I regularly find what I want there. Always worth a peek before I seek it out from more traditional sources. Highly recommended!

So. I went to the store and this one fat man walked up on a bruh bruh an said "hey the stores closed" ad my bruh bruh simply said "Then why are you here?". The man replied with "Im the manager and i do what i want" so we shot him. I didnt wanna have to do it but the fat man left my no choice.

Great selection & prices on many great books and assorted gift items!
Book people work here so they know what they are talking about. As I had worked for a book company years ago I deal with frustrating book sellers elsewhere. Very lucky to have this gem in the area. Good staff and great stock make this a haven for the lovers of books!

Daedalus Books and Music Online Store, selling new and remainder books, DVD overstocks, classical and jazz music CD's at a discount price.

Daedalus Books: Your One-Stop Shop for Discounted Books and Music

If you're an avid reader or music lover, you know how expensive it can be to indulge in your passions. Fortunately, there's a solution that won't break the bank: Daedalus Books. This online store offers a wide selection of new and remainder books, DVD overstocks, classical and jazz music CDs at discounted prices.

Founded in 1980 by Robin Moody, Daedalus Books has been providing book and music enthusiasts with affordable options for over 40 years. The company takes its name from the Greek mythological figure Daedalus, who was known for his ingenuity and creativity. Like its namesake, Daedalus Books prides itself on offering unique products at unbeatable prices.

One of the things that sets Daedalus apart from other online retailers is its commitment to quality. While some discount stores may offer damaged or defective items at lower prices, Daedalus only sells new or like-new products that are in excellent condition. This means you can enjoy your favorite books and music without worrying about scratches or missing pages.

Another advantage of shopping with Daedalus is the variety of products available. Whether you're looking for classic literature or contemporary fiction, history books or cookbooks, jazz CDs or opera recordings - chances are good that you'll find what you're looking for here. And if you're not sure where to start browsing, the site's helpful categories make it easy to narrow down your search by genre or subject matter.

Of course, one of the biggest draws of shopping with Daedalus is the savings potential. Because they specialize in remainder books (i.e., titles that were printed but didn't sell as well as expected), they can offer these items at steep discounts compared to their original retail price. In addition to these clearance items, they also have regular sales on new releases and popular titles - so be sure to check back often!

But don't just take our word for it - here are some reviews from satisfied customers:

"I've been ordering from Daedalus for years now and have never been disappointed! Their selection is amazing - I always find something new and interesting - and their prices can't be beat."

- Sarah M., New York

"I love being able to support an independent bookstore while still getting great deals on my favorite authors."

- John P., California

"Daedalus has become my go-to source for classical CDs - I've discovered so many amazing recordings through them!"
