All of the providers at Michigan Avenue Primary Care are wonderful. They are thorough, you never feel rushed, and they truly care about their patients. The office is clean and conveniently located. All support staff are kind and helpful. Highly recommend!

Went in for an annual Well-Woman visit (PAP exam). Service received was basically fine, staff was friendly. I was assured the my visit was 100% covered as preventative care, by both the insurer and the provider. I was then charged $80 (out of $250) as the deductible for the "new patient preventative visit". The insurer was also billed for an Outpatient Visit, though i was only there for one visit. The fees relating to my 2(?) new patient visits were twice the amount of the actual medical services provided.

Having lost my long-time primary care physician due to his moving away, I started coming to Michigan Ave Primary Care. I've been there 3 times for various reasons. My most recent visit (today) was probably one of the best doctor visits I've ever had. Dr. Kelly and her support staff were super friendly and professional. They took the time to answer all of my questions and were very efficient. I can't recommend the services here at Michigan Ave Primary Care enough! Thanks!

Katie Fox is abrasive and judgemental. I was billed for something other than a physical and now my insurance is charging me $700+ for a blood panel ans PHYSICAL. She is rude and I will never, ever come back to this terrible team again. Great job, American health care, I'll put off seeing a doctor for the next decade knowing it will cost me 732 for a CHECK UP. this office is ROBBING people with incorrect billing and katie fox is a crook.

PROS: Staff is friendly and usually punctual. They are immediately responsive via email and other on-line mediums such as the patient-portal. They have an ideal location and excellent hours of availability. Also, their lobby is great because it has phone chargers, filtered water, and free snacks.

CONS: Some of the medical staff, (though they do good work), definitely come off as high-pressure sales people who try to upsell you on medical services such as additional blood panels, therapy, and referrals to heart specialists, even when you just go there for a routine check-up. I realize that this is the result of their bosses pressuring them to increase revenue, but it does make a patient feel like a dollar sign rather than a person.

I had a great first appointment with Dr Niby Mathew and am hopeful to establish with this office. The doctor s bedside manner is so wonderful and she is very informative when she answers your questions. Her assistant Karen was very sweet and kind as well. The staff overall was especially accommodating with my self-pay option and broke down my list of services for me. This is a practice that truly cares and goes above and beyond.

The worsts. Never go there.
I arrived there with a severe backpain issue, almost crawling. I asked them to relieve my pain. They gave me ibuprofen and put a needle in my back that did nothing. They let me leave but i could not walk. They did not have any crouches or the medical decency to help me to leave their office.

Oh and i just received 2 months after an extra invoice for $300k.

Believe me, prefer to go to Northwestern or another one, i mean to real doctors.

I discovered this clinic almost two years ago and so far my experience with them has been nothing but great. They are reliable and efficient. I also work in downtown so the location is a plus.

I went here about 3 months ago for what turned out to be the flu but they said it was nothing more than a cold. I was in this office for 3 1/2 hours, 2 hours in i get called to just get my vitals taken and sent back to the lobby. I go to the bathroom which is outside their office and get locked out and the staff acts like they don t hear me knocking on the door to get back in so I m stuck outside until another patient lets me in. Now I can get over being misdiagnosed because rapid tests aren t always the most accurate my other major complaint is after 3 months from my visit I get a bill for $400 that doesn t even have an explanation for why I m getting charged so much. I ve been to plenty of urgent cares and gotten tests done and never have I had to pay this much on top of subpar service.

Don t expect to get into your appointment on time. I end up needing 2 hours for a 20 minute appt and there s no apology for keeping me waiting. No one wants to put in PTO for sitting in a waiting room.

If you like HIDDEN CHARGES this is the place for you! In early May I went into this facility for a CoVid antibody test. I paid up front for the mandatory virtual doctor's "consultation." The doctor said that the antibody test was 98% accurate, which we all now know is a lie. This test is faulty at best. I was told the lab fee would be $63 which I also paid. THREE WEEKS LATER I got a bill for $173. I talked to their acounting office and the staff at the front desk. They both said that I was informed of all charges. That is simply not true. With the doctor's consultation, clinic charges, and whatever else, this test cost me over $450! Nobody would agree to that. This place has shifty business practices.

Trying to provide objective feedback: The doctors, receptionists as well as their billing department are all very friendly and helpful. I don't have complaints. However, as other people mentioned here, the labs contracted with this clinic are terrible. I wouldn't mind to point it out the name of the lab, please be careful if your blood work or any other samples are sent to UIC Reference Laboratory.

1. Lab service costs are higher comparing to other labs and are not transparent. This lab tends to unbundle codes for more profits as I was charged lab services and pathology separately while other labs only charge one code. That said, you may receive multiple lab bills for same services which could have been submitted as one.

2. Accuracy of results are doubtful. Their over-interpreted results have led to unnecessary surgical procedure. They have mentioned in the addendum that the pathology was done by staff in residency under supervision. But nobody knows how close the supervision is in place.

3. Michigan Avenue Primary Care doesn't not have too much control over their contracted labs. Patient wouldn't know an estimate of the lab services, and UIC reference lab even ran additional test and charged my insurance without my consent and failed to notify anyone. The lack of communication between this clinic and it's contracted labs results in billing issues that waste patient's money and time.

We are all tax payers and insurance premium payers. Providers like UIC reference lab is the reason why our medical insurance is so expensive nowadays. Please choose your provide wisely and take the labs they contract with into your consideration.

This was the most disappointing experience I've ever had at a doctor's office.

After hours of researching doctors in the Chicago area (I moved here last summer), I decided to schedule an appointment with Katherine Fox with high hopes that I had just found my new primary care doctor. Unfortunately, I had an eerily similar experience to what another reviewer detailed below. The receptionists are nice when scheduling an appointment but they do not seem as friendly or attentive when it comes to addressing patient issues or concerns.

While meeting with Katherine Fox, I understood that we would be ordering general blood work ; nothing above and beyond. This wasn t originally planned but I agreed to the blood work because I knew an annual blood panel was 100% covered under my insurance policy. Well, after insurance, the total bill for my appointment was over $700. My bill has 11 line items for different tests that were ran and I have no idea what they mean or why they were ran. I ve never, ever, ever in my life been billed for even half of that at any doctor s office I ve ever visited. I was also a bit taken aback at how outdated/old the office and medical equipment seemed. I ve had the same type of appointment with the same work completed, at much nicer doctors offices, for literally a fraction of the cost. As a new patient, it didn t seem Katherine Fox cared if I stayed as a long-term patient or not. I really feel like there s something shady going on in this practice; or at least with the doctor I visited. I ve never felt more like a dollar sign than what I felt like at this place.

I have tried twice to visit this Primary Care. The first time I had alerted them that the train was sitting at a station and I might be 10 minutes late. I was told that they may not be able to see me if I arrived after my appointment time. When I arrived they checked to see if they could still honor my appointment since I was in fact 15 minutes after. Unfortunately they could not. I understood so I with no complaint rescheduled for two weeks later.

The second time I arrived ten minutes EARLY and sat in the waiting room for 30 minutes waiting to be called back to the exam rooms. I finally had to leave after waiting 45 minutes. The physicians, nurses, and their staff do not give the same respect to your time as they demand you give to theirs.

They didn't do anything to solve my problem. Yeah, they are friendly but I didn't go in for that. I had several tests done and each time I walked in, I had a new doctor that I had to explain my problem to again. The last one seemed less interested in what I had to say. So then after I got charged more than $1000+ because they waited for my insurance to expire to bill me. I got NO SOLUTION to my problem. You are better off going to a local family clinic that won't charge you these types of prices. Only the visit is $150 which was waived at first because I bought the insurance they were able to take but like I said, the charges came back to me.

Beyond disappointed with this place especially Jocelin Gamez. If I could give this place 0 stars I would. I am extremely frustrated with how things have been handled.

I do not have health insurance. I went in October to get my prescription for Alprazolam as the office was close to my work. I was able to get a prescription for 20 pills. She warned me that the amount of pills she would prescribe is lower then what I used to get because I was a new patient and that she didnt know me well enough to give me more since Alprazolam is a controlled substance and people tend to abuse it. I get that, but I also told her I only use it sparingly and only take them when I really need it.

Fast forward to today Jan 9th 2020 and I called to get a refill of 20 pills again. They declined because it was a controlled substance and I needed to go to the office and talk to her again. I explained that I don't have $200 for a doctor's appointment so I can talk to her for 10 mins before I can get my pills. I explained that I only use them when I REALLY NEED THEM and I was aware they are a controlled substance and prone to abuse, but 20 pills in 3 months is NOT ABUSE or HABIT FORMING.

Jocelin I get you are looking out for yourself and dont want to get in trouble but please dear God use some common sense.

As people have said before this is an absolute money grab. I dont feel like they care about your well being, they just want to take your money by making you schedule an appointment and coming into their office. They over schedule and over charge. $200 for a doctor appointment to be seen for 20 minutes is insane. My old doctor in the suburbs charges $80 and actually listens to me and tries to help.

I will not recommend this place to anyone. May I mention that you were also standoffish and almost combative during our initial consultation?

I would rather take a day off and go back to my REAL doctor and get the help I need then deal with this office again.

I am very unhappy and unsatisfied with this practice, if you have gotten this far in this review do yourself a favor and go see a REAL doctor.

I've been coming to Michigan Avenue Primary Care for years now, and have always thought that staff including administrators, nurses, and doctors are outstandingly friendly, professional and helpful. What prompted me to go out and make this review was an absolutely outstanding experience where staff helped me contend with an insurance billing issue, where they consistently followed up, pointed me in the right direction, and coordinated among multiple staff to ensure that I was getting help in multiple directions. Really, an extraordinary experience and I'm so grateful for their help, now and throughout.

I have been seeing Dr. Niby Mathew for over a year now and she is great! The office staff are super helpful and responsive, whether that's through the patient portal messaging system or over the phone. The online scheduler makes it convenient and easy to schedule appointments. I have recommended Dr. Mathew and the practice to other friends in the area, and they have had nothing but wonderful things to say as well.

This is by far the worst experience I've ever had at a doctor's office. The only reason I'm even giving it one star is because the PA I saw was very sweet and knowledgeable - THATS IT. I transferred my medical records here from Minneapolis when I moved and it was an absolute nightmare to get my prescriptions refilled. At one point, the office told me my prescriptions had been sent in and when I went to pick them up, there was never an order placed. It took me calling the front desk 4 TIMES and being told "the order has been filled" before the order was actually filled. I went a week without medicine that I've been on daily for 8 years. Worst experience ever. Also, this is the only bad review I've written in my life... it was THAT awful!

I went to them with stomach pains and nausea and was tested for everything under the sun from the male doctor. At one point, I felt so uncomfortable that I wanted to leave and at the end of my appointment the problem wasn't solved. It was the worst experience I had at an urgent care and I will never go back here. I felt like he cared more about doing extra tests for extra money than fixing the problem. I ended up going back home to Indianapolis to get checked out and found out I had a stomach virus, something he never evaluated me for.

Love Dr. Mathew, she's great. But dealing with the automated system, telemedicine and her staff is terrible. Their incompetence cost me hours of time and they blamed me for their failures.

I m not sure how the other reviews are positive, but this was one of the worse doctors offices I ve ever been to. They blond lady at the desk comes off extremely inauthentic. There s a lot of animosity in the air, and you can feel it. You can tell everyone talks behind everyone s back at this place. My checkout process was terrible. She forgot to give me any paper until I was in the hallway.

I've been to Michigan Avenue Primary Care several times and use it as my primary care provider. It's always easy to get an appointment here and I've never had to wait very long. The facilities are also well kept and really clean and they offer good snacks in the lobby while you're waiting.

Dr. Kupkowski is the greatest doctor I've ever encountered. He is patient, kind, empathetic, and has the best bedside manner. He listens to you and makes you feel like a human, not just another number walking in and out of a door. He makes it very easy for you to speak candidly and comfortably. I highly recommend having him as your PCP!

I would like to share that my experience with Dr. Kupkowski as a PCP is the best I have ever had. He makes a very serious and dedicated effort to ensure his patient's health and well-being. Having lived here in Chicago, as well as Detroit, SF, LA, HK, SLC and some other places, I've honestly never met a more engaged doctor with whom I can trust with my health.

Dr. Kupkowski is a wonderful doctor. After I my primary care doctor for 20 years retired, I was nervous about finding a new doctor. But I absolutely feel very confident and happy to have found Dr. K. His bedside manner is always extremely personable and knowledgeable. He's calm and assured. And I never feel as if I'm being rushed out.

Everyone at the practice is polite and friendly and their communication is always timely.

I feel heard and understood by Dr. K and I can't recommend him or this facility highly enough.

I have been a regular client here for the past 6-7 years, and I have not felt the inclination to write a public review related to my private health information, UNTIL NOW. Jocelin Gamez is the outstanding medical service professional I go to see every time I go to Michigan Avenue Primary Care. She genuinely stands out among almost all of the doctors/nurses I have seen in my life. Jocelin is extremely knowledgeable, efficient, and detail-oriented. Yet she is also very compassionate and willing to listen to me despite the obvious demands on her time. Jocelin is also hard-working, as she is often scheduled to work even on weekends, which is a blessing for those of us who work 9-5 jobs. Moreover, her integrity as a healer and caregiver is reflected by the fact that she does NOT try to sell me big-ticket medical services or medicines unless I specifically ask for a recommendation or discuss a problem. However, when I do ask, she takes the time to thoroughly delineate the full range of options I may be able to use. Last, but not least, Jocelin's bedside manner has been impeccable every single time I have been to this location, which is a huge achievement. Jocelin is a breath of fresh air every time I see her, and she is an asset to Michigan Avenue Primary Care.

Dr. Mathew and Dr. Merock have given me excellent medical treatment, they have just recently helped me find a solution to an old continuous problem that I had. They have not been judgemental, but concerned and determined to help me and for that I am most gratefully thankful.
I recommend anyone and everyone I know to them.

Thank you, Don Miller
