I had to stay there myself when I was younger with my daughter and the conditions were horrible 9 out of the 10 people who were staying there had bed bugs. The staff pick and choose their favorites for instance giving me a whole package of diapers for just my one child while I watched a struggling mother with 3 children and diapers have to knock on the door for almost an hour to get three individual diapers for just that moment. I had two different women try to assault me when I brought it to the attention of the staff I was told I needed to speak to the director who insinuated that I was a racist. The so-called counseling is a joke. In the staff that run the women's shelter are cruel and mean and would often times see them laughing and mocking the people who stay there. They did help me get on my feet because I put the work in to get out. But the staff could go a long way to treat women who are already in a difficult situation a lot better than they did.

This place is horrible and they only do and operate on their own opinions. Just got kicked out of the womens shelter after a woman tried to hit ME in my face, with my the daughter's. Wish I could put 0 stars because that was horrible I'm every way imaginable. No justification for what they just did to me and my children. And they have bedbugs and they are completely infested with roaches. They allow people to come in that are men, and that are obviously on drugs and allow people to bring drugs into their facility.

Very unprofessional, inconsiderate, and does not respect your confidentiality. A little over a year ago, I was assaulted by my boss, he is not my boss anymore, but I was turned away from getting services because the man that did this is friends with a detective with Kalamazoo Public Safety. They allow children who are staying at their shelter to answer the phone, and most of all, they have way to many protests, none are peaceful.

Amenities were wonderful for the women and children. However, not the best place to work. Awhile back when I applied for an interview to work here, I was interviewed by two young women in their early 20's who were not qualified to conduct interviews. They claimed to be "HR", they dressed very casually and they lacked a professional questionnaire for candidates. I was qualified for the job with a Master's in Women's Studies and background experience. However, when they looked upon my professional resume, they laughed and started making racist jokes about white women. They treated me with disrespect.

I have recently tried to stay there. When myself and my Daughter arrived there i was thankful for a safe place to stay. But when we got to our room that all changed. They do not give you your own room you have to share with another family they had another family in there already when we arrived. When you are going through an aful situation already you really don't want to be put in a room with someone you don't know. I think that for the family's they at least should at least have there own ROOM. It's very uncomfortable not knowing the person your in there with. There is nothing in the rooms but beds. No place to put your things. And the beds are metal and a very skinny mattresses looks just like jail beds. The staff i met for the very short time i was there i left the same day. Thats how bad it was. The staff was COLD, UNCAREING ,and only 1 i found to be nice and helpful was the one who did my intake.for the most part they did pick favourites in resident's. One staff referred to me and my Daughter as THEY she never even spoke or tried to get our names. They were very unhelpful. And there is a lot of stealing that goes on in that place from what our roommate said. I can believe that due to the fact that they dont seem to care about filling one foom full of familys.and no dividers or ANYTHING just one big bed room with 5 beds in it. No PRIVACY at all. They should be there to help you feel (safe) but its more uncomfortable and unsettling then being in the situation you were in. To be HONEST i would rather stay outside on the street's and hide from my abuser then stay there ever again. Worst place i have ever been. Good thing i got smart and left. Only a few hours after begin there.FYI if you are trying to help women then pls give them there own ROOM'S make them feel comfortable not bring them down any farther then they already feel. Get some STAFF that cares about the people there trying to help and not pick favourites.treat people as you would want them to treat you. Remember it's not there fault they are going through the things they are.just because they are going through almost the same thing doesn't mean they should have to share a bedroom together.
