YARAT Contemporary Art Space In March 2015, Baku presented a new center for contemporary art in Azerbaijan. YARAT The Center for Contemporary Art - the first permanent place for YARAT. It is located in the Soviet-era renovated naval building overlooking the Caspian Sea, a technical base for naval vessels in the 1960s. As a result of restoration, a two-floor luxury exhibition area of 2000 m2 has been established. In addition to hosting YARAT's exhibitions and new libraries in this space, it also hosts four temporary exhibitions highlighting new movements and commissions created by leading international artists throughout the year. The auditorium is a special venue for demonstrations, performances, and educational activities by YARAT. An informal discussion and meeting space will be completed by the organic cafe center. YARAT Center for Contemporary Art is understood to be a venue for contemporary art and arts education not only in Azerbaijan, but also in a wider region.
We looked at the personal exhibition of Azerbaijani artist Babi Badalov * * * * * * Zarathustra * living in France. Over 250 pieces were written in different languages. I did not like the painting on the piece at first sight. But after explaining Lali Khanum's well-educated and comprehensive writer's works, I understood something.
Watched an estonian movie there. It is an interesting place with unusual projects. I should go again with my kids to explore more.
Potentially a superb place for contemporary art and exhibitions, I must say that I was quite disappointed by the temporary art shown in my visit. But the staff has been very kind and welcome very well, with explanations about the current exhibition.
Entry is free. Currently (until April) an exhibition dedicated to the representatives of Azerbaijani art from 1900 to 40 is displayed.
Be careful art lovers!!!
There are 2 buildings: one of them is open occasionally, despite the information and opening hours on the door.
We waited one hour outside to found out that only one building is currently exhibiting.
And of course it had nothing to do with contemporary art.
YARAT (not always) Contemporary:
With all that money spent and staff employed, is it such a hard and unthinkable task to update a simple opening hours and add a sign on the door?
Great location and interesting exhibition with a lovely and keen guide
Lightening is not enough. So ok. Prices are expensive for the performance.
They are the most advanced representatives of contemporary and contemporary art in Azerbaijani art. There should be more spaces.
Modern Art Museum. I really like the Sunday activities for children.
We visited the center. It was a pleasant experience for us. It was an interesting and exciting exhibition.
Food is generally above average for Baku. For Mexican "styled" food it is probably the best in Baku. Wait staff can be really good, or really bad, depending on number of staff and number of tables they must cover at that time. 4 stars because they do make the only real Margarita to be found in Baku!
I am very grateful to the organizers of this project! Magical place!
