They feed the monkeys every morning so they'll come down from the mountain. There were many late October. GO EARLY to beat the buses.
They feed the monkeys every morning so they'll come down from the mountain. There were many late October. GO EARLY to beat the buses.
The monkeys only there because they get fed On the opposite side is a small onsen and Hotel if you stay there you get he monkeys for free the hole day
Very picturesque. Definitely worth the trip. The monkeys are in abundance and are constantly doing something. Keep in mind that you have to walk for about 30 mins each way on a snowy path that can be slippery so be prepared with clothing and water etc. We tried to go early so we would be walking on fresh snow not icy snow.
Love this place, I have been there 2 times, first time 5 years ago and now come back with my 4 year daughter, she was in Love with the monkey but this time the monkey was very hungry and angry I think for the winter time, was snowing hard and too windy. You can't go with any bag of food is dangerous for yourself if some monkey see u with that...you have to walk 1.8 km to the park, there is a hot room waiting for you after get cold and tired. Really good place to visit, we like very much...
We came there on September, no snowing yet but it was still cool to see the monkeys in such close distances and their daily life
While this place is hard to get to (and expensive without the JR pass), it is very much worth it. The monkeys get very close but mind the crowds of people that will be there. Also note the monkey park itself is relatively small, unlike Nara park so unless you really love monkeys, you ll probably only spend around 30-45 minutes here.
Beautiful animals in excellent condition in completely natural habitats! It's quite a long walk to the park, but it's definitely worth it! Recommend!
It's hard to walk on a snowy road, but it's worth it. I went on a weekday in the winter, but it was 90% foreigner and the number was small.
We went on the 5th of October by bus. We thought there might not be any monkeys as they tend to head deep in the mountain for the breeding season but we saw lots and there was only a handful of other people there. The bus is no23 we got the bus just after 10am ( There are 4 buses per day) from the east exit of Nagano train station. It's about 35mins to the park.
Visited the park on the 27th Dec and it started to snow heavily. If you are visiting during winter, wear waterproof shoes as the way to the area is very muddy and slippery!
It takes about 30 minutes walking to reach the park. Ticket booth is just before entering or you can buy the snow monkey 2 days pass ( one time use for park entrance but can ride the train and bus for 2 days. Buy @ Nagano Station ) for 3600 Yen.
It's one place where you are in close proximity of the monkeys. Seeing the monkeys in the onsen, they seems to be so bliss.
I went to the end of December. I could observe the monkeys very closely, I was moved more than I imagined.
Awesome experience! You can save a couple of hundred yen if you pick up a pass from one of the local hotels in Nagano. One pass covers the bus there and back + admission. I got mine from the hotel in Nagano Station :)
I was born in year of the monkey so it felt like I was meeting my spirit animal. Amazing experience and scenery. The monkeys were roaming everywhere and they were a lively bunch.
Fun! They changed a small fee. In exchange you get a warm bathroom facility with water and video of the monkey to use. You can enter and exit this facility as many times as you want to watch the monkey.
The monkeys are really cute, but I hope the tourists don t alarm them.
Monkeys!! It's a bit of a hike. For your best chance to see them make sure it's really cold
It was great to see but too many people all jostling for a good view of the snow monkeys. It was a long slippery walk to get there.
The scenery is really nice in the winter and we we able to get really close to the monkeys, but the journey was Abit dangerous because of all the ice and snow making the path super slippery. And the fact that you were at the edge of the hill, made it all the more scarier.
Loved the animals and nature was all wonderful Amazing
Better than expected as monkeys are free to roam where ever, food is scattered so have to forage.
If in the area - great spot. Make sure to check live cam before you go to see if the snow monkeys hang around otherwise you could see a no monkey sign up.
I can't come by car in winter, but I definitely want to come in winter!
A must do experience! Very fun, beautiful creatures
Awesome experience. It is NOT a 20 min walk up the hill though. Unless you run. More like a lazy 40 mins.
Children like it very much, they all observe them quietly, they have good animal education, and they can learn to respect each other.
Great to see the monkeys, you can get quite close. They are completely unfazed by people just dont bring food or youll start a riot.
One of the highlights in Nagano! A slippery 1.6km walk to the park during winter. Quite a fair number of visitors, but the monkeys are very used to visitors!
Snow monkeys are cute and funny. 800 yen for entry but you can buy the bus ticket and the entry ticket at JR nagano for 3500 yen! Make sure to wear boots when hiking.
Great experience! Tourists are numerous for such a remote place. Very nice though and magical moment!
Paid!
When you come in winter, you need a non-slip shoes!
Do not carry with absolute plastic bags, etc., especially because it is robbed by a bag containing food, absolutely!
You had better come in the afternoon, because you can see the bathing scenery
Winter Tianyi Necessary puncture smooth, cause .
Unnecessary unnecessary clinging Food bags, lucky child suffering rushing, eye sight of eyes.
Nobunaga Nobunaga foam hot spring.
It is worth a walk. It takes 20 minutes to walk after parking. In the winter, the journey is very beautiful. If you want to lick more apes in the hot springs, it will be better in the morning and afternoon.
Awesome experience. Make sure you wear comfortable shoes and crampons.
7km round trip walking on ice and snow.
So worth it!
At close range, you can see the familiar monkeys.
The road to the parking lot is thin, and it is necessary to walk on the hilly road with a good height difference after parking.
Super great experience to see the monkeys bathing, especially the little ones are very playful, but you shouldn't touch or feed the monkeys, they are releasing animals
The monkeys and scenery are amazing. However, just be aware that you'll have to fight your way through the crowds of people taking selfies.
Worth the trip in the winter din de the monkeys hang out near the food
Nice little park with many cute monkeys!
Even they are super well-behaved haha. The scenery wasn't the greatest and too warm for them to bath, but babies had just been born which was super cute.
Quite a long slippery walk amongst a winter wonderland leads to the main area where the monkeys are attracted by feed from the park staff and bathe in the steaming pools, but if you keep your eyes open you'll spot them all over the hillside as you climb.
Well worth the trek
There are many monkeys and many tourists.
There is no doubt that the picture shines.
The park's size is pretty overviewable, but beautiful nontheless! There's many monkeys to be seen everywhere, you won't be able to miss them. Try to arrive as early as possible though, to avoid the tourist flood past 10am!
Check the climate and go to visit there you can see the monkeys moving around they also baby in the Ponds and waterfall
Monkeys are very cute there are tons of them as well! There is a 2km mostly flat walk from the bus stop to the monkeys through a beautiful pine forest.
Monkeys are so cute and enjoy the hot spring very much. There are so many people taking pictures to catch the moment of snow monkeys' enjoyable face.
Visit to see the monkeys of course, but also a very nice walk to the hot springs.
I stayed at Shibu Onsen just for the Monkey Park. We visited at the last week of December, so my advice is get spikes for your shoes. You need it to survive the 2km walk to the park on icy snow. Once you reach there, it is worth the walk as the monkeys are sooooooooooo cute and tame. One of them tried to very gently tug at the plastic bag that covered my camera but quickly and shyly backed off when I told him 'NO'.
Worth the travel and walking to see the monkeys in a snow covered park. Look up train and bus timetables to make sure you don't waste too much time waiting, and expect queues in busy season. Picturesque walk to the park, consider wearing ice studs. The monkeys remarkably pay no attention to you as they go about their day.
Although you can see the ecology of wild monkeys up close, it is in the mountains because of its contents. Walk for about 30 minutes because it is a little mountain trail. Be careful because it is not a place where you can feel free to stop by because there are monkeys. However, observing the monkey's life is interesting because it looks like a microcosm of humans.
Nice experience with dozens, even hundreds of monkeys right in front of your camera lens
It is very interesting to see the northernmost primates in the world
Very photogenic when walking indifferent by your side
But;
- in spring, which is interesting because they have just given birth, and there are some babies "hooked" to the mothers .... you have to go to FIRST HOUR ... 8:30 ... which is when the guards give them eating and there is some morning agitation ... at 9.30, well fed ... relax, get rid of fleas and go dissipating through the forest
- with good temperatures (not cold), DO NOT BATHE ... so that picture in the Onsen, you have to come in winter
By the way ... artificial pool (hidden tap) to bathe and take the desired photo
In any case ... interesting and photogenic to see our distant cousins ;-)
Beautiful place! Access requires a bit of caution, as the snow makes the path quite slippery! The monkeys are loose and have their own rhythm, so be patient to see them bathing! (I.e.
Monkeys everywhere and close enough for phone photography
Overall, it's an adventure and a great experience for the whole family.
Important details are:
1. Walking distance is 1.6 km from parking area to the park.
2. Wear snow boots or slip oj spikes for shoes because the pathway is slippery!
Or you can rent it at the path entrance.
3. Bring your own drink, there is no vending machine. Dont bring food or snacks!
4. If you have small children, beware of: monkey droppings and urine, and don't try to touch/chase or throw things at the monkeys.
Be aware there's just one bath and it might not be as big as you were expecting, but this is still an awesome experience: the walk to get there is spectacular (and treacherous in winter!), there are lots of opportunities to observe the monkeys and there's an onsen for humans close by if you fancy a dip yourself (albeit with absolutely no privacy whatsoever - you're overlooked by swarms of tourists visiting the monkeys!)
I liked the monkeys and the landscape, even though this is way too commercial and doesn't really have to do with monkeys in their natural habitat. The monkeys are not enclosed or anything and treated well, but it's also pretty obvious that they only behave the way they do for the food they get here.
Great to see the monkeys playing in the snow. Make sure you've got a good set of boots/walking shoes as the track can get a bit muddy and slippery when it starts to snow.
Great place to mingle with the Japanese monkeys. We came in March, so there is nomore snow, therefor the money's don't go in the water cus it is to hot for them.
I Will not recommend to drive all the way here just to see them (if you are coming in snow season I definitely do recommend it!)
Recommendable. Macaques were everywhere. They do not interact with tourists (fortunately) but they are very used to them. It may be missing a more natural point, but we really enjoyed it. They are beautiful
Definitely an interesting place to visit, although very crowded. To get to the monkey tank is necessary to drive about 1.5 km uphill. In winter the trail is icy and requires the appropriate slip, which can also be purchased on site.
Go to Nagano for the monkeys, stay in town at a Ryoken and warm yourself up in an onsen.
What a great experience! Not only was it great getting to see the macaws, but just the walk to and from the snow monkey park was very nice in my opinion. Definitely go here if you are in the area. I went during the autumn but I would have in any season.
Arrive at 12 o'clock, wait for the clock to be left, and the shadows will not. 13:00 Ma Li's meal time. Paishan down the sea and washed down Li. (More than 100)
Our first encounter with well-behave wild snow monkeys playing and doing their business naturally. You can get close as in very close that you can touch them but it is not recommended to interact, thus offering food is not advise. One of them actually sat beside me while I was busy focusing my camera with the little ones. Best time to visit is winter where the place is covered with snow. Wear hiking boots or spikes because the trail from parking to the park frozen and slippery most of the time.
So cute and monkey, soaking in cold weather is very fun
Great experience. Long walk if your unfit but worth the effort.
The walk to the monkeys was one of the highlights of my time in this region. The monkeys themselves were not too impressive. There are many of them and interesting to view in their own habitat; but they are also rather stinky and nonchalant. Probably because of all the people intruding on their habitat.
Beautiful hike. Great to see monkeys up close. Make sure to arrive early morning as monkeys come out at dawn looking for food before return back to the forest.
So glad we chose to go here. It was snowing lightly and so a lot of monkeys came down to take a bath. The walk to the park was longer than I expected and quite narrow and slippery at times, although there is adequate signage to warn you. We spent a couple of hours there and were not rushed or moved away. Lots of baby monkeys and families which was lovely to see. Construction is happening to repair typhoon damage but it did not affect our visit at all.
Beautiful place, it is worth walking to get to see the monkeys, wears boots for walking.
There is no Internet nor WiFi in the hotel. However if you go to the Monkey Park they have free WiFi. Then once you connect free WiFi, you could connect WiFi even inside hotel. There are many monkies visit this hotel during morning. You would meet Japanese monkies in your room windows if you stay room number three!
Lovely getting close up to monkeys and kids loved it
You can buy a day ticket at Nagano station which includes bus transfer and park entry. It's cheaper than buying bus and park tickets separately. You can get the day pass at a small counter in the basement of the station.
Happy and comfortable, being able to be with the monkeys in the beautiful mountains and forests, there is no mutual care, there is a sense of peace, I really feel happy, I want to come again! I always like each other animal.
An amazing place and worth visiting .. fabulous to see the monkeys in the hot springs .. go in winter !!
Unique experience, make sure you go when there is snow, check the webcam of the park.
An absolutely incredible place, unmissable in Japan!
2nd time visiting, this time with my family. Still excited me, seeing the new born monkeys from last year.
Ojichan outdid himself on this one! Yes! Yes! He takes on some wonderful, elaborate trip each time we visit Kanazawa, and this time was no different -- off we all go to Nano! To visit the monkeys--the snow monkeys--the Jigokudani Monkey Park! What an adventure, just getting there. My father-in-law knew I'd always wanted to see these monkeys! A treasured experience!
As advertised...Monkeys in pools. 1 hour was more than enough to see the entire park.
