So interesting for watching monkeys jumping into hot spring like human being. A good place to closely observe the interaction between creature and natural environment!

There's a particular spot on the viewing platform that is so slippery that I saw three people fall on it in my time there. Something needs to be done to de-ice the viewing platforms however the experience was incredible. You should not go to close to the monkeys however they may come sit by you out of choice
Since it is difficult to walk in winter, with sufficient equipment and preparedness.
I think that people who are quite close to monkeys are scared
You can see a wild monkey up close and it's quite powerful.
I didn't go to the hot spring because I went there when it was warm, but it is interesting just to observe the behavior of the monkey.
However, the route from the parking lot is not an easy route for the elderly and people with disabilities. be careful.
As known as Snow Monkey Park in Nagano, and it is just a park instead of a zoo.
So every tourist has to follow the rules - don't feed them, don't show off the food and drinks, don't focus on their eyes, keep the distance with them. Other than that, bring your camera with fully charged batteries and spare batteries, you know sometimes out of battery is make you frustrated when you're trying to capture a cute picture in a second.
I went in August. I was surprised to see so many monkeys up close. In winter, you can see monkeys soaking in hot springs.
If the timing is bad, there seems to be no monkey, so you should check the monkey situation on the official website before you go. It is necessary to walk about 1.5km from the parking lot to the park, and shoes that are easy to walk are required.
Lucky enough to see many of these monkeys running around at your feet.
A fair trek to the park but definitely worth it.
Go to the little town nearby for an authentic meal afterwards.
In summer I think that the number of monkeys is small.
I did not enter the hot spring. The parking lot in summer is accessible from Shibu Onsen within 10 minutes on foot.
We all get along well in winter when it is cold
It takes about 30 minutes to walk from the parking lot on a snowy road.
The snow monkeys are not shy and very cute. They live wild in the park and it is lovely to see them.
Seeing the monkeys in onsen is a must see when you're in Nagano. But be aware that it is quite a long walk into the national park and it can get quite slippery in winter. But the scenery and the whole experience is well worth it.
It's super cute here! !!
It's just a lot longer than I thought.
Please be sure to schedule this trip
You can also see them catching lice
The trip can be done in about 1.5 hours ~ (excluding opening to traffic)
It will make you totally change the monkey
A beautiful walk up to the monkey park. I went right after Hagibis, which damaged some of the pools and piping. I didn't see any monkeys but even still the walk was wonderful.
Wild monkeys are free to act like humans do not. However, the famous monkey hot spring bathing is only in winter.
It's good to walk a little. On the way home, I was about to be attacked by a monkey when I gave it to my child. I think it's dangerous if you don't pay attention even if you leave the wild monkey park. maybe
Cool place, the monkey is very cute, pay attention to the mountain when it is easy to slip when it is snowing.
On the way home, I made a mistake,
Please write here in the parking lot, in front of the bridge,
You can also go from the Enza Cafe. I went all the way to the parking lot after eating
This is my first visit,
The monkey is really cool,
On the way, I saw a wonderful landscape,
Climb a little mountain,
I was not tired at all!
I really recommend it ~
Winter is a great time to observe the area and the monkeys way of living. You can see them bath in the natural hot springs. It s a nice short hike.
Even without having the luck to observe the monkeys while bathing, you can still experience the monkeys up close and enjoy the wonderful nature ... definitely recommended!
The spot to see the monkeys is very small. There is just one place where the people can see the monkeys. For the time, the money and the energy I personally think that it is not worthy.
You have to walk for about 2 km, but the feeling of accomplishment and the monkeys are so cute. I think you can go once.
it was cold. Of course, monkeys are not always in hot springs. Since the time image of the live camera yesterday is left on the homepage, it seems that you can find the monkey bathing time in the time zone. There are many customers from overseas. In winter, please go out to the cold weather measures. At the entrance of Kambayashi Onsen side, it seems that boots are provided by rental. It is safe to not endure the cold. Don't forget your gloves
Absolutely worth it, don t even hesitate. We had so much fun just watching the monkeys interact and run around (and there are SO MANY)
The views here are amazing. The long walk in to the park during winter is just astounding .
The parking lot is a little far from the hot spring. The ice on the ground and the mountain road are a bit dangerous, and the hot spring is beautiful!
Amazing! There were not many people around when we visited in December. There were probably around 40-50 monkeys hanging out in the hot onsen cleaning each other. They are not afraid of people so you can get pretty close and take amazing photos. It is about 20-30 min hike from the restaurant / drop off spot.
Very cool, but for such a long hike, you dont spend much time in the park.
Yes they are just monkeys but pay attention. If there is snow around take your glove off or take your hand out of your pocket and put it in the snow. Now see how long you can leave it there. Hopefully you will now see not just a monkey but the result of eons of natural selection to bring us snow monkeys.
There are many Japanese monkeys. The monkey was relaxing and it was a completely different atmosphere from the ordinary monkey seen at zoos and other places. Because I can enjoy it very much, if you come to Nagano and have time, please try it.
It will be quite close, so it may be nice to bring your kids. The monkey is quiet.
From Nagano station, take a train to Nagano Electric Railway, change to the bus at the terminal point, and take a mountain road for about 35 minutes and it takes quite a while.
There seems to be a direct bus from Nagano station.
Monkey down to soak a little water. The snow melts slightly.
Recommended tourist spot to see bathing monkey in winter time. But dont expect to see hundreds of them, sadly it is a few only. The monkeys come down the mountain attracted by foods given by local (thats why we can see them around). Also be prepared to walk around 5KM from bus stop to monkey s onsen and back again to bus stop.
The way up the hill is quite difficult and quite dangerous. The path is narrow. If coming during the cold season, monkeys will be soaked in hot water.
Incredible Experience!! MUST SEE!! Even if you have to travel 6h!!
It is recommended to arrive early, we will depart from Yutian at 10 o'clock, near noon, the monkey has finished the soup, rested next to it, but still very good and very healing!!!!
Visited in the end of March, still had a little bit of snow and there were lots of monkeys everywhere! Very nice experience for all ages.
The park is well managed and the monkeys are really lovely.
There s a long way to go on foot, and the monkeys have to look at the climate before deciding whether to go to the soup.
Fantastic to see the wild snow monkeys roaming freely.
If you like hiking And nature is very beautiful. Especially during the leaves change color or snow lot.
Beautiful landscapes and extremely cute monkeys. They barely notice you, and act naturally around you.
The little monkeys are so cute! I walk a little from the toll parking lot, but I think it's worth the trip!
Phenomenal experience. All the monkeys have their own personalities and are not afraid or shy. Even if they're lounging in the hot springs there's plenty of photo opportunity spots that allow you to get extremely close. A real treat of an experience.
The monkey face is very loving. The view path is very beautiful.
Many mokeys ! Most using 5d mark III canon cameras with 300mm lenses. Almost forgot : there's some macaques too because they feed them for tourist to enjoy them picking food from fake onsen bathtub..
If you'r looking for a theme park .. go disney land this one is over rated.
It's nothing compared to the diving monkeys in HongKong
It is the quintessential tour of the area. But the walk is about 3.6 km round trip and can be a bit of a challenge for the disabled (my wife has MS and it took us 3/4 hr each way which left us 5 minutes at the monkey park). So give yourself time to get there. The crowd thing can be hit and miss, we were there in January and still jostled for position and had the occasional elbow tussle. Smells a bit as the monkeys use it as a bathroom as well as a shower. Take your time and you will get very close and get some great pictures and memories.
The monkeys are super cute running around and playing with each other though none were bathing when we were there and all seem calm around humans.
Transport is a little tricky though.
You can leave your luggage at the bus stop for a fee of 500 yen per bag.
If you are a foreigner, will you be an exotic person? Place.
Visits in mid-February 2019 ..
There was a free parking lot by car and there was a parking agent.
It is often a large group bus tour, or rents a car, and public transportation is a bit outdated.
If you use Google map, you should take Kanbayashi Hotel Senjukaku.
I arrived at about 12:30 pm, and there were already many foreigners coming and going, and at the beginning of the mountain road to the monkey park there was a shop to rent stores, shoes and gloves.
A few days ago my eyes melted. I froze to ice, and there were many slippery places, so I bought a spike chain (1350 yen) and put it on my shoes.
Depending on the weather and the day's temperature, it is safe to prepare hiking shoes and aisen which are not slippery.
I saw a lot of people falling over including me.
It is 25 minutes to the trail between the trees straightened with snow, but it seems that the person who is going there is slippery for more than 40 minutes.
The pictures of the monkeys in the middle are warm and humid ...
There is a ticket office when you climb the entrance stairs, and you can also watch videos of the monkey's life in a rest area where you can drink water while taking a rest, Wi-Fi, a toilet and a ticket.
Through the resting place, you can observe monkeys hanging from your mother and watching them from a short distance.
I do not see many monkeys on the hot days because of the warm days, but if they are snowing and cold, can not you see many of them?
Even though the weather was warm, the wind started blowing around 3:30 pm and the temperature started to fall. If you start from a long distance, it will not be hard for you to arrive before 1-2 pm.
On the way back to the resting place On the wall you can see monkey parks from 1 to 7 monkeys and you can feel the value as a monkey park over 50 years old. It is not a zoo. It is a place where you can rarely see monkeys living in a natural life. recommendation.
I think it was mating season that's why some were quite aggressive but it just made the whole experience better. There were some r18 moments so kids better watch out. Lol
Fantastic experience. We went early in the morning around 9:30 so not too crowded. Ole ant of action with the monkeys going for a swim in the Onsen, and running around your feet. Family really enjoyed this day with the monkeys.
As expected, midsummer does not enter a hot spring even if it is a monkey. Furthermore, the road from the parking lot is quite hot due to the heat. However, since spring is birthing time, it was able to see a lot of baby monkeys. But after all it is a place to come here from autumn to winter.
Even without freezing temp. and snow lovely to see these monkeys thriving in their naturel habitat.
It was beautiful, and the place is great. You can purchase two days pass for the Snow Monkey Park for 3500 yen. It can be used for unlimited direct bus, local bus and train to the park. It also include admission ticket for the park, but you can only use it once.
The bus leaves from Nagano station and Yudanaka station.
Wondering if it takes about an hour from Yudanaka station to entrance.
It takes about 20 minutes on foot from the entrance to the hot spring.
Because there are many places where snow is solid in winter, I will slide. There are a lot of tourists from overseas.
Next to the hot spring in the monkey we can have a hot spring in which humans can enter but we can have a bit of courage to get in because the open-air bath is visible from the people of the monkey tour.
I do not know the whole year, but I sell tickets that have become a set of buses and entrance fees from Nagano.
For those who take pictures, it is recommended to go for a while since it's 1:00 pm, but it's not a big deal but it's enough for tourists to stay around 1:00.
This is a must do. I strongly recommend non slip footwear or renting something at the base of the track that will prevent slipping. Monkeys are wild, they are not captive. The facility is minimal and frankly should stay that way in the interest of preserving the surrounding area.
An essential place for all nature lovers. Monkeys are more numerous in winter.
Monkey speaks a thousand words. There's a 30 mins walk before the actual monkey place, it was a really nice walk and super photogenic. Went there on new year day, was a bit crowded, there's one monkey going into the hotspring and everyone was rushing to take photos. Kinda need to fight to take good photos. But the monkeys are really cute, they would literally walking next to you. Also, the 30 mins walk was really icy and slippy, it is not extra to rent the gear unless you wanna be like me walking like an 80 yo for the whole time but still fell on the ground
Great fun in winter! This is the main reason to come to yudanaka really so you should probably go!
There are some buses which run from both yudanaka or, if travelling from further afield, Nagano. But you must walk for a good 30mins after as it s a nature reserve. The walk isn t too difficult but it is icy and there are some steps so it s unsuitable for those with mobility issues.
Once there it s difficult to miss the monkeys. Don t worry - you ll get your photos!
The walk up and the park itself are stunning in the snow tight now. Try and go on a day it is snowing if you can. The monkeys are everywhere and basically running freely around your feet. The pool itself it nice, but totally swarmed with tourists with telephoto lenses all trying to get the same pictures. My favourite moments where actually away from the pool in a few of the other spots.
Quite Small but nice, definitly the best period to visit is winter and just for monkeys or onsen (outside the park). Near a big ski area.
Winter holidays come here. Lots of photo spots with snowy forests. Cafe with a Muslim-friendly menu.
It was incredible how close you could get to the Monkeys. The area was super scenic, would definitely recommend.
Very cool all of the monkeys were just hanging out in the water and eating on the rocky area
I have visited many times, but I felt that the water channel running aside was getting dirty! The rest was well maintained. There is a shop ... (^^)
Cute monkey but walking a lot Legs hurt or old people shouldn't come.
Amazing tourist attraction in the Japanese mountains. The walk is mild at 1.6 km one way. The path can be slippery and wet, so wear good shoes. Entry is approximately 800 yen for adults. The monkeys come running out of the slopes when the ranger blows the whistle. This is the monkey feeding time. Don't get to close to a mother with a baby monkey as they can get quite aggressive. If you are visiting in winter when it is snowing the monkeys may be sitting in the thermal pool at the end of the park.
Went there in early March and the weather was bright and sunny, and there is still quite a bit of snow around. The park is a ~25 min walk up from the gate by the souvenir shop, and the route is mostly flat and manageable. You will then see the Jigokudani valley with some old wooden huts and public onsen facing a geyser. It is said that monkeys started to bathe in this public onsen before the park was built. There is one short flight of steps to climb before you reach the ticketing counter. The park is quite a small area with just a few pools. Largest pool is at the end of the park. The weather wasn't that cold, so out of the 2 hours we were there for, only one monkey went into the pool briefly. A few others just chilled around the onsen, or picked food from the snow. The monkeys are not afraid of humans and even run between humans between their squabbles and fights. Those resting by the pools also gaze at the humans around then as if they are visitors to a human zoo. It was an interesting experience with good opportunities for photo taking and to learn about monkeys in general.
Visited on 31st January 2018.
There's a long 1.6km walkway you need to go through to reach the monkey park from the carpark. The pathways might be slippery and icy, so get your proper shoes ready.
The park itself is not very big. There are a lot of monkeys (160+ according to the tour guide) and they are pretty calm & chill, just doing whatever they are doing. They are not distracted by tourists taking photos but it's pretty hard to get their attention to look at the camera. You can get very close to them, but basic rules apply: do not feed, do not touch.
During my visit, it's not very snowy. So it may not look like in the photos. And none of the monkeys actually bathing inside the hot spring
Would reccomend as a day trip from Tokyo. It was a quick train ride via our JR passes and a must see spot. The monkeys are pretty fearless and will walk amongst you quite regularly. The trail was also quite easy to walk through.
The monkeys were cute but the place was a little small for the steep entry fee. Charming forest walk before reaching the area.
It's so much fun!
There are about 50 monkeys. The little monkey is so cute!
I walk a little until I get to the place, but it seems that even children can walk. Scaffolding includes stairs.
Hiking routes, as you can't see monkeys bathing in hot springs, it also depends on luck
Nice walk out there. No gaurantee monkeys to be there as they're wild
Snow monkeys, hot spring, tall tress covered with snow and mountains all create a very picturesque view. Strongly recommended!
