Rooms are not very big, like most of the hotel rooms in NY. Service is great.
Rooms are not very big, like most of the hotel rooms in NY. Service is great.
Perfect for a casual weekend for two. We spend most of our time outside the hotel but we enjoy its intimate size and central location in Chelsea. Great value and makes a great hub to visit the surrounding city.
Comfortable, if small, with pleasant staff and strict cleanliness.
It is a nicely affordable place, for one to rest there hair.
Tiny & stuffy rooms, worn furniture, mediocre bed, bad views from many rooms. Good location and nice staff wont cut it for me. Had much better experiences for the same price in NYC. Avoid.
Small rooms but very comfortable. Great front desk service
The rooms are really tiny, and I would like to open my window. The breakfast in the hall is incovenient.
I stayed 6 nights here and enjoyed the stay. The neighborhood is great and offers plenty of options for food or shopping. Also easy to get to the subway. The staff was nice, hotel is clean, rooms are clean too. Size of my room was nice and cozy, not too small. A mini fridge in the room would have made it a 5-star stay.
Functional, very friendly and helpful staff, but rooms are small and expensive ($200-300/night, which may be a norm in Manhattan anyway). WiFi gets quite slow in the evenings and I found my AT&T 3G router much faster. I would stay elsewhere if I could but GEM is a good standby for me where others are full, as my business destination is always in Chelsea. Be sure to ask for a room facing a street - those facing interior walls are quite depressing (small window looking at a concrete wall across).
Nice hotel and staff, reception area great, room a bit musty and could do with a revamp
Located in a great area of New York (corner of 22nd & 8th) rooms are small but staff are very friendly and accommodating. Will be staying here again on my next visit
Super friendly staff and a very clean hotel. I'll be staying here in the future for sure.
Rooms are small but sufficient. Service is very friendly and polite, and place is clean.
Nice and clean but the rooms are very very small, well that s NYC s fault not the hotel s.
This is small hotel located on west 22nd Street and 7 Ave, right in heart of Chelsea. Easy to access local events such a parks gallerys and High line
The room is, as expected in the downtown, tiny and the street side rooms are very noisy at night.
Clean, small rooms, decent free WiFi, no room service, a bit noisy (both street noise and the heater in the room), hip ambiance in the lobby.
BOGO happy hour!!! Sabrina was super nice and a very chill spot to meet people or kill time
The Gem is now and forever the hotel I will stay at in New York City. It has charm from the moment you step in and provides exactly what a hotel should - friendly service and a room to leave your stuff in without worry. I would like to specifically praise April at the front desk whose warmth and service made me feel like I was the first guest she d ever had. She is an asset to the hotel! I also enjoyed the time I spent with Marquis and Sabrina at the lobby bar. If youre looking for good conversation and a knowledgable outlook of the city either one of them is the way to go. The location is ideal as it is near many places to eat and explore and not far from subway stations. Thank you Gem for making my NY experience fabulous!
Small room, but that's expected for many hotels in NYC. The staff was very friendly and came up to our room to see if we needed bottled water. The bathroom was small but modern and very clean. Wifi was great too
Great location too small rooms you can expect more in NYC. Clean. Friendly front desk
Have only stayed one night so far, but I've been very happy with the room so far (it's not huge, but then I don't need something overly large for this trip). The complimentary WiFi is a little spottier than I would like.
Staff has been extremely nice, seems like a very good neighbourhood.
Despite the construction in reception (they're building a new bar area) this hotel was nice and in a great location. Rooms aren't huge, however i seemed to have nabbed myself one of the bigger rooms (#416). They're cleaned daily and bottled water is provided daily. The shower pressure is good although there is no bench space in the bathroom. The cupboard space is quite small but has hangers and a safe in it. Staff we nice and helpful.
Really cold rooms! Had issues with our heating and literally spent one night in my thermals!! Such small rooms we had to put both cases in the shower. Far to small for more than one person. Riley on the front desk was amazing and so welcoming worth a visit just to say hi!!
The staff is very warm but the rooms are too small and without ventilation!
This place really saved us after a fiasco with Airbnb. The service was always superb and the rooms were really cozy and well kept. Spent a week in a room and I wouldn t mind coming back to this hotel on my next trip. The gym was also a nice little extra, has everything you need for a day s workout. The lobbyist were very nice and took care of our things after check out while we made the most of our last few hours in the city.
Great and friendly service. They made sure to make me feel welcome, which made all the difference in the world. Will stay here again next time I visit.
Apart from the location in a nice neighborhood the hotel is really not so good with tiny rooms of the curtains to the windows that have not been washed for months anyway so there is no housekeeping that goes on so much that you occupy the room ... uncomfortable, old-fashioned bed, even the TV remote only works every other time. A disaster to avoid.
A big complaint from other reviews I saw was the size of the rooms. Yes, it is Manhattan and the rooms are small. I have stayed in various hotels in Manhattan and my room here was by far the smallest. Dim light hallways and rooms are the norm. The lobby is bright. I will not be staying at this hotel in the future.
Hotel in great location and a bit expensive no breakfast
Rooms are small but comfortable and clean. Also, the BOGO happy hour at the bar and roof top deck are very nice perks. Staff is nice and helpful.
I was only here briefly, but it was nice. The room I had was small; reminiscent of NY studio apartment, but it was clean and comfy.
The hotel could have chosen better beds, but I've slept on worse unfortunately.
Entry into the USA is currently not possible.
Hotel does not respond to requests. Provider says it has opened, it's your own fault. Not even a partial refund is offered. Rebooking to next year is also not possible.
Bad service! Just rip off!
Damage: 1222.42 euros.
Update:
After 3 months the message suddenly came that they were closed at the time. Just lies and excuses. Trust is gone. Hotel will not be booked again. There is now one more star because the money has been refunded.
Clean, good location, beds could be more comfortable and rooms are so small i needed to bend over to get around the wall mounted tv to get to the other side of the room....
Nice, clean hotel in a great location. A little noisy even on the 5th floor but the price you pay for location. Would definitely stay again.
Clean and comfortable accommodation in a very interested location in Chelsea. Very good reference with price/quality good in NYC
The best option in NYC. In the heart of Chelsea, a beautiful neighborhood. The hotel is a very nice classic remodeled. In the lobby there is a very nice bar, the people at the reception are very friendly and cordial, ready to explain everything and make themselves understood in Spanish and English.
The rooms are very modern and minimalist. They have air conditioning hot-cold-fan, very comfortable bed, storage spaces, iron and ironing board, tv, coffee maker, wi-fi, beautiful bathroom with all the necessary amenities. Towels and amenities were renewed every day.
It also has a terrace-patio for common use, very quiet and picturesque, from where you can see the Empire State Building. The terrace is open from the morning until around 11pm and has chairs and tables with umbrellas, so you can take something for lunch-dinner or have something outdoors with a beautiful view. They do NOT charge resort fee
Amazing staff!!! Always offering to go the extra mile. Took our luggage up to our room as soon as we walked in, brought my backpack upstairs to the room when I needed to drop it off and run out again. Little things like this that big hotel chains in NYC just don t offer - the gem Chelsea does!! Very impressed with the maid service. Happy hour at the bar was just starting when we arrived. Good local beer selection and salty pretzels were just what we needed! Loved staying in this part of NYC, felt like a very safe and residential neighbourhood. Easy transit to other areas. Great restaurants close by. 10/10!!!
Rooms are small and clean. Perfect those just needing a place to sleep and shower while hanging out in the Big Apple. Staff is extremely friendly, and helpful.
Fantastic hotel. The rooms are quite small (but this is New York, after all) but clean and comfortable.
Nice rooms, though tiny. Slow and unreliable internet connection.
Very nice hotel and friendly staff! We stayed here last week.
The hotel itself was clean, good shower, good wifi en we had a nice view on the 5th floor on the empire state building. The hotel is in a perfect central location in a very nice area. With de subway 2 minutes away and a lot of nice restaurants in de neighbourhood. The Rooms were good but not very big for the two of us. The only negative things were the loud traffic that you hear very hard in the room ( single glassed windows) , the small beds ( to small for two average adults) and proberly like every hotel in this time of the year, way overpriced with almost 1200 dollar voor six nights. We give it 4 stars for the clean rooms ( every day clean towels and a made bed ) and the super friendly staff and service at the desk!
Perfect spot to take on New York, in Chelsea. Near subways and a grocery store on the corner. Rooms are small but you don't care because you're in New York, "The City That Never Sleeps"
Wouldn t stay here again. I don t need a lot of space, but these rooms are tiny. Suitcase has to stay on the floor in the middle of the room; had to hang my suit from the door lock just to steam it, room smells musty. Not to mention that they were vacuuming the hallways at 9:15 PM. Only good thing is location and the mattress is decently comfortable. Glad I m only here one night.
Happy Hour: best bartender ever, so sweet. Super chill place. Great place to be outside. Nice deal on the drinks (if you don't mind carrying them to the roof)
Very friendly and helpful staff; clean rooms lovely shower and breakfast
Thanks Google New York for booking me at this little GEM !
The staff at the GEM are very kind & fun.
The rooms are very small but have the basics for a short stay.
The location is great... Chelsea is a very nice area.
Great location for Food/Restaurants & Transportation
The rooms are small, but the people are nice, the location is great, and the bed and pillows were amazingly comfortable.
Quirky. Tiny!!! Miniscule!! Good location. Many musicians. LA types.
Boutique hotel. Smaller than what I'm accustomed to but all the necessities required. In the future if they renovate they could replace the carpet and pillows, which are old and frumpy.
Cheap hotel in Chelsea. The staff is very friendly and helpful, the rooms are small but clean. There is a coffee maker in the room. Unfortunately, there is hardly any daylight through the window as the opposite wall is 2 meters away. There is a roof terrace. Unfortunately, there is no breakfast, but there are plenty of options nearby. I would book again.
The smallest rooms I have ever experienced. It's like a small student room. The beds are equally small. If you are 1.80 m tall, your feet won't be in the bed:) No services except a bar. Friendly staff.
Excellent location and service. The rooms are cosy and small but this is to expect for a such location at such an attractive price!
The staff are amazingly friendly and helpful. April, Sabrina, and Marquise are some of the most friendly and enjoyable people I've met. The rooms are a bit small, but they're comfortable and clean, and really nice for the price. And the location is very convenient for getting around the city. I plan on making this my go to hotel in New York City.
Safe and convenient, but the rooms are tiny and the air conditioning units are moldy.
Rooms are tiny but guess what it's New York we are pressed for space! But the staff is very nice and extremely welcoming. You can order takeout from here and there's so much to do-outside...Your in the middle of downtown and midtown so 42nd street or 14th is very accessible from here. Great place to stay in the summer you will be outside anyway you want somewhere with a great price, clean, and up to date.
Hard to find value hotels in Manhattan so this was ok. The room was extremely small and seemed clean enough.
TRASH in hallway looked like rug design to the weary eye but then i realized it was TRASH IN HALLWAY!!! Luke warm water offered gratis at front desk, only place to get ice is front desk, furniture in room had chipped laminate, slow shower drain, awesome rain showerhead, and digital cable did not work....
Very nice hotel We paid with an offer and left all oks. The area very good to eat and go for a walk
My stay was fair/poor. My main complaints were some unfriendly staff, bad room smell, and cockroach sighting in my room. The positives were that the hotel is in a very nice neighborhood with very good location. I wouldn't stay in this hotel again. I would say it was overpriced.
Great place, delivers what you expect when you are booking...and the staff is amazing, really do their best to help!
so this place has three stars for the fact that the neighbourhood and the first impression is good...BUT... THE rooms and floors are a bit worn... the rooms are not really that clean upon closer inspection... they clean and wipe up but there are spots and even found a condom left over from the previous..unless they leave those as a welcoming gift..?! so while i like it unlikely i would stay again or recommend
zero elasticity. We booked through Booking 4 rooms for 5 people in total. After having swiped to our arrival the credit cards for the guarantee of payment at a distance of 4 days have carried out the charge on one of the cards for a different amount from the one blocked under guarantee, without unlocking it in advance. Following the refusal of the authorization for exceeding the ceiling, the hotel employees blocked access to the room of a person of the group, immediately demanding the provision of a valid credit card. Nothing was worth the assurance that there were already 3 valid credit cards and that a new guarantee would be provided within the day. Beyond the scarce consideration of the customer and the retaliatory measure judged excessive to date, my credit card, besides having received the regular debit of the stay, still results with the reservation of a corresponding amount as a guarantee.
Good location, rooms with little space but enough to rest ...
Quiet and small, located near a subway station so that's nice. Edge of bed sheets were stained with something.
Nice hotel, great location, but rooms are small and it's noisy.
Tiny rooms even for NYC, good service. Not many amenities. Given the price I'm not sure it's worth it. Good location for me, so I sometimes stay there.
My work had me in NYC for several weeks during my birthday and couldn't fly back to San Diego. I just got off work. The front desk lady a beautiful person with a huge heart of gold...broke out in a capella a happy birthday song. I was in shock as no one has ever sang directly to me before. In awe I just stood there as she sang happy birthday like she was in a concert hall. In awe I said thank you and she clearly saw that in me. I went to my room and cried as it was the perfect thing to do after hearing an angel sing. I loved it. To top it off as if anything could make my night better a delivery shows up at my door...she went down the street and bought me custom cupcakes from the bakery. Ill post a pic when I can find it.
I hope she finds this and remembers me. I still talk about it today. Ty beautiful lady, that was one of those things that happens in your life that is significant enough to be a highlight in my life..
Staff was wonderful, but rooms are tiny. Modern finishes in the rooms themselves but the common areas are a blast from the past and a little unkempt. Not a bad place to stay but don't bring a lot of luggage & temper your expectations accordingly.
