Very well curated, lovely place and incredibly genuine. I personally dislike Wordsworth and liked how it was more about life in old England than about his poetry. I thinking Wordsworth is just a brand that this house doesn't need since it would be just as exceptional without it

A working Georgian house with an expansive and beautiful gardens.

When I visited in mid April the weather was lovely and the staff were cooking food from the Georgian period in the houses kitchen.

House is a great place to visit if you are staying in Cockermouth.

Really interesting talk in the dining room about life as s Georgian servant and how the Georgians didn't waste anything from using goose wings as feather dusters to saving the greese from the kitchens to make candles. Found it fascinating the derivation of words.

Really good National Trust house where the Wordsworth family used to live. There are numerous rooms to see with lots of information about the life and background of the family. There are also interesting exhibits with one focusing on words from different English dialects. Food is often shown being prepared in the kitchen and a harpsichord is played in one of the rooms. There is a nice cafe and shop.

Wordsworth lived for a few years when he was a boy - Hmmmm! However, the architecture and decor are very interesting - a fine example of a grand town house of the period. Really nice garden and a decent cafe.

This place gives you the feeling of history as the furniture was all from the correct period. Actually, the bureau in the front room was the actual one which belonged to Wiilliam. The garden is large and full of a variety of fruit and veg, which is a credit to the gardeners there. There was a tour guide taking people through the house and we listened in on one room and he seemed very knowledgeable. There was even a harpsicord in the drawing room, which you are allowed to play if you wish to and I was very tempted, maybe next time!... If you like this sort of thing then please visit and enjoy everything there is on offer here, you won't regret it.

For those who love Wordsworth you will be in seventh heaven .
During my visit there were visitors from the USA, Japan and Australia and of course from our own fine shores.
The House and Gardens are just a short walk from the town centre. There is no dedicated car park attached to the Attraction but there is a Pay and Display car park approximately 300 or so metres away.

The Attraction is owned by the National Tust and the opening times are as follows.
Visitor Centre. 10.30am until 5pm.
House and Garden. 11am until 5pm.
The attraction is open daily EXCEPT Friday's unless a bank holiday falls on a Friday.
Good wheelchair access around the Gardens with wheelchair friendly toilet facilities located in the Court Yard.

The House has a lift for access to the ground floor and upper floor (servants quarters ). Access to the First floor is via stairs ONLY. Those unable to negotiate the stairs are offered a free audio tour.

A good family day out in my opinion with very well kept Gardens for those who have green fingers

My experience was somewhat marred initially by the journey time to the house to start with but then I was dissapointed by the size of the house and it's limited contents. The gentleman in the harpsichord room was very knowledgeable and staff generally polite and welcoming, it was the property that let the experience down

We went as part of the Taste Cumbria event where a pop up restaurant was set up in the kitchen, guests were allowed to explore the house. The house and gardens were very interesting but the kitchen was amazing and coupled with Michelin starred chef Kevin Tickle it was a magical experience.

Stunningly original house in a pleasant setting. You really get the feel of a house that was a home rather than a monument and the Trust have really brought it to life. Well worth the visit and the town is pleasant too

Lovely homely feel and lots of hand on experiences. Mostly about Williams life there as a child so not much of William as a man.
Lovely garden with snippets of poems on slates around the flower beds
