If you don't have a diploma and you can't get a job doing anything that pays enough to move out of your Mom's house. Job Corps may be a program for you! They give you an education, a place to sleep, food to eat and a little bit of spending money to get you by until you complete your job training.
From what I've heard its more like a prison and the view smh I wouldn't recommended either
Don't send me such a question because it doesn't partain to me.
I'm currently enrolled in the Woodland Job Corp center and it is by far the worst place I've been. The staff are disrespectful. They don't believe in confidentiality. They always threaten students with write ups and possible termination. This new company (MINACT) don't fund anything and are kicking students out for minor infractions and keeping the ones with major ones. The food is decent just its never hot most of the time. We are supposed to treat the dorm like our homes yet we can't decorate the walls just a poster bored the size of two computer screens. We have tons of theft and its not safe here at all. They promised a get to make us feel more protected and that has yet to be fulfilled. We have strangers walking behind the dorms at night. They recently installed security cameras that aren't and by far was a waste of money. Woodland is anti-bully center yet it constantly allows it. They implemented a see-through book bag rule so that items can't be sneaked on and still security don't do their job and thoroughly check peoples belongings.
My son applied in August and they have been giving him the run around (a few location) my son have been ready to leave to start his training but have not been successful in receiving a start date
I have just recently completed at the woodland job corps center and I have to say it is an amazing place and is truly a blessing
I went there and it is trash they are sneaky !!
Living areas are trash
Cafeteria Trash Dirty
Teachers trash
Job Corps was for my two sons that don't like it because it's a change and rules but will be going anyway. Its good for them. Not these streets
Not a good center much drama the students are terrible and so is most of the staff plus the food is horrible most of the time I don't recommend this center
I went to this Job Corp from 2010-2012. Yes the teachers and the staff talk back. Yes the food is trash. You have to remember it is to help. I had no problem there and i actually liked the fact it was ran. If you don't like the way you are treated then its your fault. Grow the hell up. I had a great time and would do it again any time. Don't write a wrong review because you cant handle what you put out!!!!
Most staff here talk to us students like we are kids and I find that very disrespectful giving the fact some of us here are adults they need to talk to us like we re adults. The food is disgusting sometimes when I do eat here or upsets my stomach, you can leave center on your own unless it s the weekend you can t order out on Mondays, the students have bad hygiene and they keep us here longer to gain the center more money after the student has completed everything it s terrible.
Like high school but for adult who did go to college.
Do not send your child or if you are thinking about coming DONT DO IT! the staff here treat everybody like children staff always have a bad attitude it s ridiculous this center needs to be gone
They willingly and knowingly participate in fraud waste and abuse of federal programs. There is corruption within this federal agency.
My 21 year old son couldn't keep a job, didn't have many skills. He got his culinary arts certificate from Woodlands job Corp and is LOVING his position with Marriott. Job Corp isn't for fun, friends, entertainment or babysitting! It's for young men and women who want skills/certifications to lead a productive, independent, useful life. If that's not your goal...don't bother signing up. It has been a true blessing for my son. He makes good money, already bought his own car AND a motorcycle and has a healthy savings account. If you're motivated, it's truly a gift.
Awesome! I graduated here 1997. I left with my GED, Business Clerical certification and drivers license. If you apply your self here you can have a successful outcome. Best wishes
Woodland Job Corps is a help facility, designed to provide the necessary job training to be productive upon completion.
Everything is trash the people the kids the food the staff everyday the teachers quit cause the kids are disrespectful some of the staff are rude talk to you any kind of way I would recommend Woodstock if you wanna go to a job corps because you can chose to live on campus or not I m currently trying to get transferred or I m either gonna quit completely
If you're going here don't get yourself into any drama and stay away from cliques; just worry about yourself.
my daughter decided to go here. I haven't herd much good about job Corp but I'm doing my best to be optimistic. she is 19 yrs old with a 17 month old son. I just pray to God that she doesn't slip into the wrong hands. I definitely will return to give a very honest review. prayers for all who go there for help with improving thier lives.
UPDATE!!
so here is my honest review of my job corps exsperience with my daughter. my daughter spent approx 18months at the woodland location in Anne Arundel county. much like most things in life its all about the type of person you are and the descions you make. my daughter was very troubled going into the program. experimenting with drugs, very promiscuous, a teen age mom and not the strongest academically. in my opinion. if u hv a child who is this type of troubled. job corp is NOT FOR THAT CHILD! drugs and sex are definitely very accessible here as my child engaged in both as well as fights. i honestly belive my child is worse after the program because she had more access to those things there than she did at home. i dont think this is purely because of the program which is why i said it depends on the type of issues hv with your child. They have plenty consequences but the boundaries are not fully in tact in my opinon. a lot of kids are there because they had no where eles to go. They've been kicked out of everywhere and abandoned by thier families for being so outta control, basically homeless. They didnt necessarily go there because they wanted to fix thier lives. they went there because its 3 hots a cott and a great time FOR FREE! that closely resembles a homeless shelter which is not the most productive environment. It was like a play house for my daughter. she never wanted to come home to her son because it was a life of funded freedom there. If you have a child that is more of an independent thinker but maybe made a mistake and public school isnt an option or they themselves are trying to fix thier life. NOT BECAUSE FAMILY ENCOURAGED OR PUSHED them to go then this place may be off assistance. if u hv a kid that seems to find trouble everywhere they go DO NOT SEND YOUR KID HERE...... They will definitely find it here. i know that sounds wierd since most of us chose this place or are considering this place BECAUSE we hv troubled teens but Job corp REALLYhas some cleaning up to do in terms of the functionality of the facility and the program itself. nobody can fix another human being anyway so if ur looking for that u eill never stop looking but there are things that can be done in terms of supporting and encouraging troubled youth to actually wanna work for thier own lives. another thing that was a concern for me as a parent is that moat of the staff were almost as young as the youth being serviced. idk if the powers that be feel like that makes it easier for staff to identify and connect with youth but there needs to be more DIVERSITY in thay area imo. Youth responds to youth like youth and the lines for authority and respect blur very easily as it definitely did there. in my opinion this place is not good for kids like mine. my child did recieve a HS diploma and a culinary certificate from the program. How that happened is QUESTIONABLE!! thats all im gonna say about that as my child stayed in academic trouble and was constantly on the verge of being kicked out... this girl still cant even count money. BE CAREFUL sending your child here. some kids make it but it a difficult ENVIORMENT to make it in. just because they give them a diploma doesn't mean your child actually achieved anything. they just have minor credentials to help make them look like something they are not. which is a gross disservice and a potential set up for failure.
Can I be able to go to this job corp and stay off campus ?
They never returned my call. The staff was rude and unprofessional.
