my daughter decided to go here. I haven't herd much good about job Corp but I'm doing my best to be optimistic. she is 19 yrs old with a 17 month old son. I just pray to God that she doesn't slip into the wrong hands. I definitely will return to give a very honest review. prayers for all who go there for help with improving thier lives.

UPDATE!!
so here is my honest review of my job corps exsperience with my daughter. my daughter spent approx 18months at the woodland location in Anne Arundel county. much like most things in life its all about the type of person you are and the descions you make. my daughter was very troubled going into the program. experimenting with drugs, very promiscuous, a teen age mom and not the strongest academically. in my opinion. if u hv a child who is this type of troubled. job corp is NOT FOR THAT CHILD! drugs and sex are definitely very accessible here as my child engaged in both as well as fights. i honestly belive my child is worse after the program because she had more access to those things there than she did at home. i dont think this is purely because of the program which is why i said it depends on the type of issues hv with your child. They have plenty consequences but the boundaries are not fully in tact in my opinon. a lot of kids are there because they had no where eles to go. They've been kicked out of everywhere and abandoned by thier families for being so outta control, basically homeless. They didnt necessarily go there because they wanted to fix thier lives. they went there because its 3 hots a cott and a great time FOR FREE! that closely resembles a homeless shelter which is not the most productive environment. It was like a play house for my daughter. she never wanted to come home to her son because it was a life of funded freedom there. If you have a child that is more of an independent thinker but maybe made a mistake and public school isnt an option or they themselves are trying to fix thier life. NOT BECAUSE FAMILY ENCOURAGED OR PUSHED them to go then this place may be off assistance. if u hv a kid that seems to find trouble everywhere they go DO NOT SEND YOUR KID HERE...... They will definitely find it here. i know that sounds wierd since most of us chose this place or are considering this place BECAUSE we hv troubled teens but Job corp REALLYhas some cleaning up to do in terms of the functionality of the facility and the program itself. nobody can fix another human being anyway so if ur looking for that u eill never stop looking but there are things that can be done in terms of supporting and encouraging troubled youth to actually wanna work for thier own lives. another thing that was a concern for me as a parent is that moat of the staff were almost as young as the youth being serviced. idk if the powers that be feel like that makes it easier for staff to identify and connect with youth but there needs to be more DIVERSITY in thay area imo. Youth responds to youth like youth and the lines for authority and respect blur very easily as it definitely did there. in my opinion this place is not good for kids like mine. my child did recieve a HS diploma and a culinary certificate from the program. How that happened is QUESTIONABLE!! thats all im gonna say about that as my child stayed in academic trouble and was constantly on the verge of being kicked out... this girl still cant even count money. BE CAREFUL sending your child here. some kids make it but it a difficult ENVIORMENT to make it in. just because they give them a diploma doesn't mean your child actually achieved anything. they just have minor credentials to help make them look like something they are not. which is a gross disservice and a potential set up for failure.
