Woodgreen is an amazing place, this is a rescue and rehousing Centre for Dogs, Cats, Chickens and pigs, that is what we saw when we went with our donation. If I could say one thing to anyone it would be if you want a pet please go to Woodgreen or any other reputable kennels or rehousing Centre.
The staff at Woodgreen are very caring and will always greet you with a smile . Also this is a registered charity and relies on Donations to survive even the smallest amount of food, cash or time. Well done to all of you.

All staff extremely helpful. only complaint is that the restaurant / coffee shop was closed for private function.
Considering there is nowhere else close by to get a bite to eat or have a drink I wonder if it is wise to close for private functions rather than to stay open for public.

Very friendly and helpful staff, animals well looked after, great housing conditions and they are obviously loved. Cafe and pet shop on site as well as conference facilities.

Much larger concern than expected but well staffed. Staff will guide and advise on the best fit for your needs etc.

This place does fantastic work for animals, our only gripe was not being able to browse the dog area like we used to do, we were looking forward to seeing if there was one to rehome but couldn't see any without first committing so we knocked one star off for this.

Me and my partner were really excited to rehome a dog but after our experience its put us off.
Personally I think this place Cherry Picks, what dog goes to who! Rehoming process is a shambles!

Visited Wood green and registered our interest to rehome a dog. There were no dogs suitable for us on the day of our visit to Wood Green, however we were told to check the website and when we see a dog we like to call in and discuss it, rather than driving up first, and they can reserve for 12-24 hrs.
We checked the website (many times in the day) and a new dog was posted so we called, it was 1545 at this time and the dog had only just been added.
Spoke to a lady and discussed everything and the dog was a match! She told us that she can't reserve it but we should go at 10am the next day to see the dog. She also said she will get a rehoming advisor to call us within 48 hrs.
Bearing in mind the centre closes at 1600 at 1830 the dog we enquired about stated RESERVED! Didn't understand how that was possible when we were first to enquire about him and within 10mins of the centre closing someone went in and reserved him?!?
Next day we called and the dog was not reserved for us but for a family who were going in to see it. She could see notes on the system saying we would visit the centre, but we told her no point if the dogs reserved, but she didn't have an answer when we questioned how the dog was reserved at 1830 night before when we enquired just before the centre closed!

Got a call back to say we were second back up, and we would get a call to let us know either way if the dog is rehomed or if we are successful with being a second backup.

Dont understand how the dog could get reserved when the centre closes at 4pm!
They emphasise so much on once you show interest in a dog you get first choice yet that failed on this instance.

Looking at the website, dogs are added and within minutes of them being added they become reserved!? Really?
We could never find a dog with Wood green then because clearly you would need to be at the centre all the time then, instead of at work earning a living, which Wood Green dont take into consideration!
Oh and we still didn't get the "CALL BACK!"

Really has left me and my partner disheartened, annoyed and put off rehoming a dog now!

Such a beautiful place filled with nothing. Been to many rehoming places and have always been made to feel welcome until we visited here. Told point blank if we wanted to look at the dogs we would have to do so via their tablet (the charity's website which you can access from home). We managed to see 3 cats a ferret and 3 sheep. All in all 2 and half hour trip for nothing

Well signposted and easy to get around. The staff are incredibly friendly and really put the animals happiness first. They are thorough in both checks and information, should you wish to adopt/rehome an animal. The volunteers are enthusiastic and well informed about where they re working. If looking to rehome I would arrive prepared as it shows willing and it will make the process smoother.

I share the same feelings as others who went to Wood Green looking to rehome one of their dogs. My old border collie recently died and his faithful friend a chocolate labrador needs some company. We have always had two dogs for the past 40 years;so I think we can prove our responsibility.
We were grilled for over 30mins only to be told there were no suitable dogs for us - we have a cat!!!
I am not willing to buy a puppy from a puppy farm or breeders out to exploit this market - so rehoming a rescue dog was what I wanted;we have rehomed several dogs during our lifetime,; I came away very very disappointed and am now looking elsewhere to provide a loving home to a dog that needs one.

I would have given them a 5 star rating but unfortunately they have stopped all the dog shows which have been held here over many years....shame as we all used to spend our hard earned money supporting your charity and new shop....what a loss for you

In 2014 we adopted two male rabbits from Wood Green. We were initially taken aback by all the hoops we had to jump through to adopt them and that they chose the rabbits for us. But we followed all their recommendations and built a run which was acceptable to them. So for the next 5 years we had two happy, healthy and much loved rabbits. Sadly one of them passed away in the spring. So we decided to go to Wood Green to get a new companion for our surviving one. As we already had the set up, recommended by Wood Green, we thought it would be quite straight forward. We thought wrong! After filling out their forms, sending in photos of the run, photos of existing rabbit, vaccination records and visiting the centre. The set up we have is now no longer acceptable to them. In their communications by email they kept calling my surviving rabbit by the deceased ones name even though I kept correcting them.
It seems to me that they now have a hard set of rules where common sense is not a factor. They give the impression that they think no one (including vets) could possibly know whats best for an animal more than they do. We were put on a waiting list for a suitable female rabbit to be available. We were told that we could be waiting in excess of three months. That was back in June. We haven't heard anything from them since. I think they have forgotten about us.
We have since adopted a lovely mature female rabbit from the RSPCA. Who we successfully bonded with our other rabbit ourselves, something else Wood Green didn't recommend.
In conclusion wood green have become far to up themselves and as a result, encouraging people to buy from pet store who would have otherwise adopted because they don't meet their criteria, don't look the right way or which ever way Wood Green decides to shift the goal posts next. Thankfully there are other shelters that still have a human touch and common sense.

Visit here if u can lovely place for an afternoon and any money you spend all helps the refuge. You are able to look at all the gorgeous animals needing a home but they have a strict no take home same day policy so brilliant for not impulse buying but awful if like me u come from 60 miles away and your 6 yo "falls in love" with a rat and cannot bare to be separated and has to be dragged out dangling to my leg making so many promises the child would become an angel and so many threats an Instant demon! Then screams how evil I am as a parent for the full 60 miles journey home !! But if you are looking for an animal to love def. Go there so many needing homes. But beautiful day out even if your not.
They also have a charity shop great for used animal items .. leads bedding etc etc and other household items etc .

Had a great time at the toy fair here, a massive area, the food in the restaurant is pricey but is fresh and really nice, the staff are welcoming. They don't badger you to get a donation even though we always give one. The events they have at this location are brilliant, a different variety, would definitely Go back here again

Not many directions telling you where the different animals are.
Great for wheelchairs/pushchairs. Charity shop (which could be much bigger), but everything displayed nice. Great place to take children. Large free car park and cafe. Good for events.

God Manchester centre, TERRIBLE.

God Manchester centre, TERRIBLE.

Before anyone hates my review, we have rehomed a dog from here before and she carried on to have a wonderful life with us.

That particular dog became our much loved family pet all because we could go here for a day out.

We read the heart breaking stories, we saw the dogs and all the other animals, then we fell in love, and because of this "Tess" came home with us a few days later.
When we first visited it was a vibrant place, with animals of all types looking for new homes.

Nowadays, looking for a new dog is by appointment only.
Larger animals such as horse's, pigs etc have, either been rehomed or removed. Obviously rehoming is a good thing, however due to our current throw away society I find it hard to believe that no larger animals need new paddocks.

Most staff were either unhelpful and or unknowledgeable.
A WORD TO THE CHARITY!

Run your charity like a business.

All animal lovers would gladly! pay a fee to park.

Clear signage explaining where to go, around the site would help. The only clear signage to be seen was the caution deep water sign at the filled in pond... but hey that just hints at how much of a joke this place has became.

I would gladly pay for food bags to feed the large animals (if there was any of them there), a highly profitable and labour saving ploy adopted by many rural farms.

Your carpark's are seriously overfilled with colleague's cars giving the impression that you have visitors.

Please ask to have the brown "Highway signs" taken down if you want to continue down this deconstructive route.

I hope you understand what constructive criticism is.

Wood Green is the home to cats and dogs (and other small animals) that are looking for a new home. A charity setup for the benefit of its animals, this venue regularly holds exhibitions and events like toy fairs, pet shows and other similar events. They have an on site restaurant, pet store, charity shop and obviously home to all of the animals. Lots of free on site parking, well worth a visit. All proceeds go to the charitable cause.

Amazing place the international agility and Paragility event has been help here 2018. They have done a fantastic job with fantastic facilities managing to accommodate a huge amount of people and their dogs. As well has having all the facilities the staff have been fantastic and very helpful and the food has been brilliant. Seems to be amazing place not had much chance to see the animals they look after and rescue but will get to that next. Always see the workers keeping busy though walking the dogs cleaning the paths feeding the animals. Seem to do a variety of things for a variety of different animals too.

About Wood Green, The Animals Charity

Wood Green, The Animals Charity: Providing a Safe Haven for Unwanted Pets

Wood Green, The Animals Charity is a UK-based organization that has been providing shelter and care to unwanted pets for over 90 years. With the help of its supporters, Wood Green has become one of the largest pet rehoming centers in Europe. The charity's mission is to provide safe shelter, specialist care, and a brighter future for thousands of dogs, cats and small pets in the UK.

The charity was founded in 1924 by Louisa Snow who was passionate about animal welfare. She started by taking in stray dogs from the streets of London and finding them new homes. Over time, her work expanded to include other animals such as cats and rabbits. Today, Wood Green operates from four locations across Cambridgeshire and Hertfordshire.

One of Wood Green's most notable achievements is being home to Channel 4's popular TV show "The Dog House". This show follows the journey of dogs looking for their forever homes at Wood Green. It provides an insight into the hard work that goes into rehoming these animals and highlights how important it is to adopt rather than buy pets.

Wood Green takes pride in its approach towards animal welfare which involves providing individualized care plans tailored to each animal's needs. This includes medical treatment if required as well as behavioral training so that they can be successfully rehomed with loving families.

The charity also offers support services such as pet advice helplines which are available seven days a week. These helplines provide advice on everything from pet behavior issues to general health concerns.

In addition to its core mission of rehoming unwanted pets, Wood Green also runs various community programs aimed at promoting responsible pet ownership among children and adults alike. These programs include educational workshops on topics such as animal welfare laws and responsible breeding practices.

To fund its operations, Wood Green relies heavily on donations from individuals and corporate sponsors alike. Every donation helps towards providing food, shelter or medical treatment for an animal in need.

In conclusion, Woodgreen Pets Charity has been doing incredible work over the past nine decades by providing safe sheltering facilities along with specialist care services for thousands of dogs, cats, and small pets across UK.Their commitment towards promoting responsible pet ownership through community programs makes them stand out among other charities working towards similar causes.Woodgreen Pets Charity deserves all our support so that they can continue their noble cause without any hindrance or financial constraints!
