Really beautiful building. And it s great that it s open during the weekend for visitors. Even my four years old niece had a blast tuning around.
Beautiful place and expentacular tianguis on Saturdays to buy fresh produce
Beautiful building inside and out. Love this area.
Definitely worth a visit, architecture is super cool.
First time at the state capital Madison Wisconsin.
I m from California!
Visit this place. I visited on a Saturday so I got to see the market in front of the Capitol building before heading in. Went on the free tour so I got to see the different Chambers closed off to the public. I learned a lot about Wisconsin and it's culture. After the tour I went to the top of the building to see the view. The highlight of my trip to Madison.
One of a few buildings in Madison of real architectural interest. Lavishly decorated with murals and carvings, plus with an unusual and interesting history. Tours are offered every hour or so and sometimes the state university system holds interesting events in the rotunda. The only real downside is that the people in this building kept trying to get me to pay these strange things called "taxes."
Walk down State St. and you will find the Capital Building of Wisconsin, it's very pretty.
Great building, but I can't give 5 stars while Walker is still there.
It's a very nice building and the kids and my wife and I all enjoyed exploring the building.
One of the most beautiful Capitol buildings that I have seen. Incredible choice of colored stonework in the rotunda.
Marble marble and more marble, a truly amazing place. Tour yourself or with a guide!
This was such a nice place to walk around. The architecture and background history behind everything was really interesting. I wish I could come back again to take everything in when it isn't freezing outside.
Went on an evening tour of the grounds ...awesome history and wonderful architecture. Our guides were super folks as well.
If you and a stranger happen to converge at the entrance to the Wisconsin State Capital at the same time, they will likely smile and gingerly wave you forward. "After you," they'll say, that friendly concession a trademark of "Wisconsin nice." You'll make your way through the bulky wooden revolving doorway and into the granite hallways, and if it's your first time here, you'll be surprised at it's grandeur, elegance, and the ornate frescos adorning the walls and ceilings. It's truly one of the most beautiful state capitals in the United States.
If you're lucky enough to visit at the right time, meet in the rotunda on the hour for a free tour. The tour is informative and fun, and you even get to see the courtroom, the senate chamber, and the assembly chamber. The tour guides are knowledgeable and willing and able to answer your questions. As of this review writing, tours were offered Monday through Saturday at 9am, 10am, 11am, 1pm, 2pm and 3pm, and Sunday at 1pm, 2pm and 3pm.
If you come around noon, you're likely to hear protesters singing anti-Governer Walker songs and exercising their first amendment rights. During the holidays, the Capital is decorated and a large Christmas tree sets a festive mood. If you're visiting during the summer, take the stairs or take the elevator, but make sure you make it to the sixth floor museum and observation deck, which offers unparalleled views and is only open during the summer.
I hope you get a chance to visit and enjoy our beautiful Capital building. The unique architecture and atmosphere wow me every time I visit.
Spectacular the #StateCapitol; the State Capitol of Wisconsin; with Renaissance dome; luxury arches and finishes; a large infrastructure overlooking the 4 cardinal points; full in neoclassical art and great architecture.
This is a beautiful building inside and out. The murals and architectural features inside are quite amazing. An unexpected thing that I really enjoyed was being able to go outside on the relatively large observation "deck" that surrounds the area just at the bottom of the dome, which seemed to be about 7 or 8 stories high. That offered great 360 degree views of Madison and the lakes. Highly recommended.
Wisconsin is full of great hard working blue collar people who will give you the shirt off their back if you need it. I support most of the people in the capitol and I would recommend it as a place to see with great old architecture that is open to the public.
Lots to see in here, beautiful marble everywhere, ingenious architect made use of natural light in rooms and glass blocks in the floor to let even more light in, gorgeous paintings depicting historical events and interesting symbolism (take the tour to get it all explained to you). Our guide was informative and funny, even though her "guide voice" was about 3 octaves higher than her normal conversational voice. She pointed out many of the Badgers, and taught me things about my own State I never knew, like why we are called The Badger State. I've been to Washington DC and toured our Federal Capitol and this was definitely more impressive and beautiful. Plus we were treated to a St. Patrick's Day concert by bagpipers and Irish dancers inside the building that then turned into a parade right outside. I'd give this a 5 star rating if I didn't dislike our Governor so much. :)
Great place to visit. Go inside and check out the history (on a free tour) or hang out on the lawn during the summer.
Beautiful building! Really worth seeing if you have the time. They do let you go up on top to see a view of all of Madison!
Must place to see during Madison visit and also free guided tour every day is the awesome thing.
Wisconsin is a really cool state in the heart of the midwest. If you in the area try out one of the many cheese and popcorn shops. The capitol is very beautiful and the building is really cool. If its open and your in the capitol you need yo go to the observation deck on top the view is amazing!
so beautiful i was in awe it was amazing worth the stop
Biggest landmark in Wisconsin, although the locals may say it's Lambeau Field
Mimicking the design of the Nation's Capital, this beautiful large structure of marble and granite, houses the governing seat of the state of Wisconsin. There are tours offered daily. Being a public place, entry is free, and bathrooms are available. There are entrances for wheelchairs on the sides facing East and West Washington Avenues (located UNDER the stairs on each side.) The entire building was retrofitted with some modern amenities, such as central air. The rotunda houses a massive mural that stretches all across the circular dome.
Very cool and beautiful building. A great way to end your state street walk.
Nice place to visit at the center of downtown Madison to chill out ith friends, lr by yourself.
One the most beautiful State Capital building in U.S. No questions asked!
One of the most beautiful capital buildings in the country
The people of Madison love their State Capitol building for good reason: it's one of the prettiest in the country both inside and out.
What a unique place! I discovered quite a bit of United States history here. And the paintings are beautifully painted. Lots of architecture to take a look at. And plenty of bathrooms on every floor. If you're looking for a place to sit down, there are leather chairs outside the supreme court courtroom on the second floor, in addition to benches outside the Capitol itself
This building, open and free to the public, is beautiful on the inside and out!
Lots of fun things to do around the capitol, especially during the summer.
Beautiful building with lots of historical significance and things to do in the surrounding area.
Free tours through the building, including the 'balcony'
One of the finest Architectural Building design. Capitol building tour was awesome. After entering the building felt like i am in ancient times. Paintings and sculptures are amazing. One should visit this building, if they are in Madison,WI.
Gorgeous monumental building, must see when you are in Wisconsin. Free tours every hour.
The income is free of cost.
Its construction was enriched with marble brought from different places such as Africa, France and Italy.
There the office of the Governor of the state of Wisconsin, the Assembly, the Supreme Court and the Senate works.
You can appreciate the marble worked in different forms, in beautiful colors, in some carved parts.
In some places you can see real gold as a painting on the walls and ceilings.
Also the roof of the Governor's office is totally worked out in a wonderful way.
In the center of the curved roof of the Capitol you can see an amazing painting.
I recommend this place 100%
Amazing free tour. All four houses of gov't are housed here, Lord of great information from the tour guide. The state capital building would cost about 3 billion to build today. It is a stunning work of architecture with stone shipped in from all over the world. Take the tour totally worth it.
Most beautiful capital building that I have ever walked in. Wonderful artwork throughout and maintained exceptionally well.
This is the most beautiful capital building I ve ever seen.
I'm not sure how to rate a State Capitol. It's pretty cool to see the history of the building and of the state inside. There is a TON of marble and the fact that the dome can be viewed from all over is outstanding.
Around the building there are some homeless but they are harmless and quite.
Very picturesque. Don't miss the guided tour (free), it provides a lot of interesting facts and astonishing facts of the Capitol. Pay parking is available nearby at the State Capitol parking and other garages.
There isn't much to do or see, especially when the legislature isn't meeting. But our two-year-old still had a blast. The observation desk was still closed when we visited, but I've heard the view is awesome.
Nice place to visit. You can feel the history inside.
