This Capital building seemed to be eclectic. No so...
This Capital building seemed to be eclectic. No solid theme. Security was present but, no security screening. The tour guide was knowledgeable but, the tour was short, about 30 minutes.

Stopped by during a road trip to Minneapolis. You can park along one of the sides for either 10 minute or 1 hour parking. We strolled about and it has information inside and a decent view outside as well. There are public restrooms available throughout the building.
Adding a few more pics, the boys have their state capital stamp collection books so we visited it again.
Fantastic! This capitol building is an architectural masterpiece. We enjoyed every minute of our time spent here.
Easily the most beautiful of the fifteen capitol buildings I have visited. The only capitol that allows you to enter wherever you want and wander wherever you please without many restricted rooms. Every ceiling is adorned with a beautiful mural and all four wings lead into one gorgeous main room with a massive dome. This capitol is truly a house of the people.
Very cool building. The layout is a bit confusing, but if you're near the Capitol it's worth a visit. The architecture is really interesting.
Used to be a decent place,I wasn't a fan of Walker, but with 3version in office , I miss Walker...sad
Beautiful interior - go to the top floor to look down from the top of the rotunda!
Aaaamaaaaaazing although when I went there was a fire drill.
The building looks stunning. Absolute great sight to see.
The structure is a beautiful work of art was in aww, very interesting to see, and definitely different from anywhere ive been before
The Capitol tour is a great attraction. But even if you don't have time for the tour, the building is beautiful to walk through. It's a nice venue for wedding ceremonies as well.
Great building. I have done the tour. Friendly staff and great at Christmas time or when visiting farmers market.
Beautiful building and grounds. Open to public. Short walk to lake side. Close walk to coffee shop and eateries
Nice architecture, nice city, a very quiet place and free to enter
Beautiful building inside and out. Try to head to observation deck and take a walk outside at night if you can.
Wow. Iconic and historical fun for the family. Friendly tour guides if you want a tour.
Interesting and magnificent historical Capitol building.
its fantastic that this building is open to the public. If you are visiting definitely go up to the dome and look out on Madison. Also its worth just checking out the architecture. Additionally its free.
It was an awesome experience ! The staff was very kind! Plus we get to take a photo with the policeman! I wish we had those opportunities around here!
What a truly incredible building to see. Absolutely recommend coming here if you are in Madison.
What a beautiful building. Did not realize it was open to the public and can go on a roof area for views and pics. Cool place.
Pretty nice building. Also amazing view of Madison and the lake
The observation deck is a must do in Madison. Free access to an open air deck around the rotunda.
Nice place to hang out.makes more special with the lake s nearby
Beautiful building, it was a big like a maze, but still very cool.
A very knowledgeable tour guide who seemed to enjoy her job immensely. Very organized and handled a large group efficiently. The building is amazing and without the tour, we would have never understood so much of the history or what we were looking at. This one is worth seeing.
The inside of this building is just as amazing as the outside! Our tour guide was great and extremely knowledgeable on all the fixtures of the Capitol and it's history. It features the fourth largest dome in the world, so unless you plan on getting to Europe any time soon, this will top just about anything you see.
Very cool place to go if your in town. The inside is beautiful. I highly recommend going here and walking around.
The most beautiful state capitol building I've seen. Gorgeously ornate construction and design. Best of all, it's free to explore. Make sure to find your way up to the roof for the best view of the city!
Beautiful building with taking a walk through whenever you get the chance. It is entirely free and open to the public. Also, during the summer months, keep an eye out for farmers markets and other events in the square around the building.
Great place to check out if you're into architecture. Take the time and head to the observation area to see amazing views of Madison.
Very nice inside and there a lot of places to go that are around it.
I'm going the the capital Tomarrow for a feld trip
Beautifully maintained, accessible, and approachable. Madison residents actually use the Capitol lawn to have downtime with their families, which is commendable. A beautiful vegetable garden was centered on one of the sides (facing Lake Monona, I think), which was an unexpected but ingenious landscaping feature.
Hmmmmmmmm i don't know
My son is scared of elevators
HEHEHE!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Thoroughly enjoyed our visit to Wisconsin's Capital Building in Madison. It's set between two lakes atop of hill between them offering some great views. Both exterior and interior are beautiful as well as photo worthy.
Very neat building. Worth walking through if you're in the area
Touring the Wisconsin State Capitol is an awesome experience. This place is huge and you can see all aspects of the Wisconsin State Government in action here. They have tour guides or pamphlets were you can tour at your own pace and easily be able to explore and see more. It's a big building, if you are able to go during the summer the roof is open and offers a great view of the city! Check it out!
Love the fact that you can wander the building exploring. Great way to blow an hour unless there's protesters...
Beautiful building, inside and out. The grounds are well maintained. Open to the public.
The actual building is nice, but the events in and around the a are better. The earlier you get to the farmers market, there will be fewer people and better parking available.
I never get tired to go for a walk around the Capitol, is always nice, quiet, clean ....and they put a awesome Christmas tree in December. It is also the center of great events of the city like the Taste of Madison.
I did the tour. But the man who did the tour was unkind !. Awesome place !.
Gorgeous building with lovely grounds right in a nice downtown area with great restaurants.
Beautiful building with a lot of beautiful detail. Like going up to the observation deck and catching the view.
Great place to visit and enjoy the architecture. Murals on ceilings and walls are breath taking. They also give you a glimpse into the historical events. Guided tours help you learn historical facts, and functioning of the government and activities that happen in different rooms.
Entrance is free.
Parking on the streets surrounding the building.
One of the most beautiful buildings in Wisconsin, though not the biggest nor the oldest. It might be the most valuable, however. Some of the stone and wood are irreplaceable and the 360 degree view from the observation deck shows off an amazing view of Madison. If you are lucky enough to be able to climb above the dome and into the spire, the view only gets better. Tours run often and are worth it.
They always have it open to look at the beautiful inside. Christmas they have a huge tree in the middle and an orchestra comes in to play
I loved the capital and loved that I grow up so close to it!
The marble/stone and woodwork are second to none! The details down to the door knobs are amazing!
Beautiful building with a terrible republican infestation.
The capital is beautiful, full of art & history. The view from the top is wonderful.
Amazing place. They have free tour s of the whole building. Make sure to take one if you want to know more about the history of the Capitol.
This is an incredible building. Didn't get too much time there since we got there right before they closed, however, had a lot of fun exploring and finding random open doors to go explore in. The observation deck was closed and we were really looking forward to this, so that was a bummer. Still a fun experience. I got to pretend I was a part of local Government in one of the rooms that was left open!! :)
Its a must see for anyone visiting the area and people who live in the area and have never been there.
For the first time we made a visit to Madison, Wisconsin not realizing the amazing features the city had to offer. The Capital building is a unique architectural design with a great deal of history. The grounds were beautiful and a whole lot of stair climbing. Recommend a visit if your going to Madison, Wisconsin
The most beautiful of all the State Capitol buildings!
We have the most beautiful Capitol building! Public access year round, "rooftop" viewing available in the summer. Special displays and events, the positive list just keeps going! Very friendly staff, definitely worth a walkabout.
Even though it was closed and we didn't go inside...the building was beautiful and the very 1st capitol building on our 50 state tour...it was so clean there
It has a structure resembling the White House. There is a free terrace on the top floor.
Best State Capitol in the nation and it's even used as a stand-in for the US Capitol in several movies. Just need to get the bum out who claims he is working for Wisconsin in there but clearly just wanted to run for President and kiss him masters' behinds along the way.
The beautiful building where the top state politics happen. Take a tour to see everything... it is beautiful and historic.
Omg one mens room bathroom open on july 13 during the art fair. I was on the 4th floor and the open one was on the first. It felt like a bad dream. Feel free to tax me a penny and everyone else a penny for paper and toilet mints.
It's really a beautiful place, tour guides explains in detail, wonderful architect and art. There should be an option for the visitor to view the entire city from the top and some free parking in the weekends would be good as well.
Definitely a great day at the capital, first time my grandkids seen it
As I imagine is tradition visiting a town for the first time, I took a stroll down town around the capital building. It was absolutely gorgeous! The entire town of Madison impressed the hell out of me, and I'll definitely be going back. The capital building is stunning, with great architecture and lots of small details to discover. Exploring inside was well worth it, and it was nice and air conditioned on the 85+ degree weather day. Will most definitely be going again to explore down town and the surrounding areas!
A delightful example of Neo Classical architecture in downtown Madison; however, the executive in charge and his minions are disappointing, lackluster & generally full of it.
The staff around the capital were all very friendly and gave great advice on taking the self guided tour. Received a few interesting history nuggets from the random care takers around the different areas. Was fun to see and read the history of the capital and see the amazing artwork and architecture up close.
The most iconic structure in Madison, Wisconsin, the Wisconsin State Capitol area is a must visit if you're ever in town. A symmetrical 4 sided structure, the building is easily accessible from all directions. During the summer months, the area outside of the State Capitol gets turned into the farmers' market on the weekend.
Beautiful. Clean big bathrooms. Lots of stairs, if you aren't in good shape.
One of my favorite capital grounds. The whole area is super walkable with a number of shops/restaurants lining the outer parts of the square.
If you catch the capital while the sun in setting, the surrounding buildings and trees cast some great shadows while the capital dome lights up golden yellow.
Best State Capitol I've ever been to. Especially when it's filled with peaceful protestors.
Gorgeous building open to the public, great place for students or adults that just want to look around
Wisconsin's State Capitol has to be the most beautiful examples of architecture and design of any building. Located on a high point at the center of the isthmus between Lake Mendola and Lake Monona it has a spectacular view from the outside of the rotunda. The materials and art work used in the construction of the building is outstanding. Take the guided tour and enjoy the history of the building and artwork. The staff and people are great and friendly.
Very nice place to visit and maybe even get married!
Beautiful capital building, great that it's an open government building that you are welcome to enter and explore.
Update 11/21/18 - love visiting this state capital, it's so beautiful with exceptional craftsmanship and design! Today we got to see a little celebration going on about Scott Walker being voted out of office.
