Beautiful Capitol building!! A wonderful place to visit, so much to see you will probably have to come back a few times. Gorgeous stone and wood work. They have a self guided tour you can take and look for hidden secrets, like fossils in the stone of the walls...you can get a pamphlet from the information desk.

A beautiful Capitol, as usually in the USA, with free access and also suitable for children, to introduce them to the history and rights of citizens.
Magnificent example of pride for one's country.
Most recent visit in August 2013.

Was having a great experience till we asked the information desk a simple question. He was rude and insulting! Continued on to a great coffee shop down the street where a couple asked if the information desk was isulting to us as well... We all got a chuckle!

This is a review based only on the building itself
I love the capital, it is stunning! The marble, wood, and gold leaf Work is amazing. Every time I go I discover a new detail! The observation deck is a great place to not only see the whole of downtown, but to also pinpoint what street you need to go down to get somewhere. I personally like the fact that no buildings can be taller than the capital, it creates a less cluttered city to live in, and offers an uninterrupted view of the capital from anywhere along the lake.

Take the FREE :45 minutes guided tour inside by the East wing. It start every hour on the hour.

You will learn a lot more of the history and they will give you access to many of the closed rooms and chambers that you wouldn't be able to see otherwise.

The building is breathtaking and a sheer wonder to look at and explore. You must go inside and see the different galleries and the dome, in particular. There are some interesting historical plaques to read and there's always something of interest going on here.

This is potentially the most beautiful state capital in the U.S. I also enjoy the ability to walk up so close to the Capital and see all the details placed into the structure. It is a great place to walk around and see all the locals walking downtown, jogging, and overall in a good mood. It is hard not to be in awe.

Iconic Building in Madison, it stands majestically in the center of the Isthmus and divides the city on East and West sides. The dome resembles the Capitol in D.C.

The interiors are built with shiny classy marbles and gives a very royal feeling. The Capitol Tours gives a quick insight into the history of the building and Wisconsin politics.

There are weekly Farmers market around the building, bringing you the fresh local produce from the surrounding areas. This building is also the starting place for any protests. I have witnessed the Occupy Wall Street, 2011 Wisconsin Budget Repair bill.

Very impressive architecture! The marbles on the walls were imported from Greece and France and some other places! The intricate designs on the columns and borders showed that they were skilled works!

Excellent for school field trip. The guide taught us a lot about what the rooms were used for, who uses them, and how often.

Great place to bring history to life when studying about Wisconsin.

I've been to a few states capitals and I might be a little bias being from Wisconsin, but the history and design/architecture and maintenance of the capital is amazing. The view of the city from the grounds and observation deck are unique and awesome. I would recommend a visit.

For a rainy day, the tour is wonderful (and free)! A great way to learn about the history of Wisconsin and check out the beautiful architecture of one of the nation's largest Capitols. For a not-rainy day, don't miss the observation deck, where you can get amazing views of the city!

Touring state capitals is one of my favorite pastimes. The Wisconsin State Capital is gorgeous. Very ornate construction. Lots of imported marble from around the world. The detail on the inside was exquisite. Only capital I ve been to so far with an observation deck. Entire area is walkable and extremely clean. They love their badgers in Wisconsin. Tour guides are knowledgeable and thorough.

A must see if visiting Madison. It has 43 different types of beautiful marble, granite, and limestone. The observation deck has a gorgeous 360-degree view of downtown Madison. There is also a ton of information about the construction, and rebuilding after the 1904 fire of the capitol building itself on the upper levels inside. This building and its guided tours are free to the visiting public. Even if you don't care about politics, this building is a must see.

Its a beautiful place and as of late has had much goings on, I only gave it a 3 star because of the current occupant. If you are a visitor to Madison it is a must see. It is like a scaled down version of the White house.

I have been to many state capitols and this is one of the best. If you are in the Madison area, this is a must see in my opinion. Even if you spend a half hour walking around inside and out, it is worth it.

Wow! Beautiful building. Wandered around for a couple hours, from the basement to the observation deck on top. Very nice air-conditioned get away on a hot day... American craftsmanship at its best. Helpful and nice staff around but you can wander on your own unmolested too. The views from the top of the isthmus, the lakes, the university and city layout are not to be missed. Best free attraction in town! Unless your a tax payer, in that case your paying plenty for admission.

Beautiful building to walk around and look in. I really enjoy that every Saturday there is the Farmer's Market around the perimeter of the Capitol. Very nice Farmer's Market and fun to go to on a Saturday morning.
