Hinsdale Central 86 school district told us it wasn't a good enough reason and actually illegal to register to their school just because a child moved from out of state that was having a serious issues with their parent and it was causing problems in the child's schooling. So it was decided for her to move here away from a toxic environment so that she can succeed in her education. Please tell me how that isn't good enough and illegal? The child lives in their district with their temporary guardian who lives in the district and proved residency. Temporary guardianship has been notarized by all parties involved and was provided to the school. How Can a public school deny a child to go their school just because they do not like their reason of why they moved from their parents home? Under the Students In Temporary Living Situations Act, schools cannot deny a student's enrollment nor does that student have to provide personal information as to why he/she is in a temporary living situation. Bill Walsh, Assistant Principal, at Hinsdale Central actually said they were taking advantage of tax payers money. We pay taxes. We live in the district. He was very unprofessional and prejudicial based on external appearances. We do not need to divulge the reason why the child is not living with the parent. It's our legal right. This is not the first time he has ostracized a person or the parent when the child doesn't live with the parent. Him probing for personal issues in why the child doesn't live with parent is actually ILLEGAL.

Everything is slanted to help the more priveleged succeed. I come from a relatively poor family, and have had to work my way up to get good grades in school and enroll in higher level courses. However, some children with rather affluent parents have gotten preferential treatment, and I don't believe that is fair. I've tried to bring up this issue with the school board, but the board mostly consists of these more affluent parents. I'm concerned that they aren't focused on the other students' well-being and academic performance as well as their freedoms, as recently there was a controversy over showing R-rated films in class (specifically ones hinting at gay content). This is ridiculous and prejudiced, and I am appalled that in such a progressive area in the 21st century, these types of things can occur. There need to be some major reforms here, and definitely more diversity.

mr. thomsonwhere does it end?how can you scrutinize one of the best preforming schools in the state?there are real problems in this world and one R rated movie shown to 17 to 18 year old adults with a inappropriate joke is the most meaningless of problems when you consider the scope of your argument. Hinsdale Central is an incredibly funded school. There is a fact of societal law that wealthy parents give their children an advantage from the start compared to those in lower income areas. 42% of Harvard students have a legacy. Hinsdale parents have the right to pay for a good education for their children, and if you are suggesting that the state government needs to intervene and disallow that advantage, your ability to prioritize the significance of problems is severely illogical. Hinsdale Central is an incredible place that gives their students an incredible opportunity to succeed in life through its teachers and parents, and mostly through the atmosphere that is created. Go DevilsSincerely, well preforming rich kid

I graduated from here in 2011. Although I am not from an "affluent" family by any means (a child of a hard-working lower-middle-class immigrant family, actually), I still found this school and its staff to be very accomodating and supportive. The teachers and faculty are true professionals, committed to and passionate about their jobs. I really felt that as long as I put in the prescribed amount of time and effort, I would succeed - and I did. It is one of the best schools in the state, and this could be felt through the heightened expectations of their students. And while this school could definitely get much better (such as by decreasing their excessive funding of the athletic program and diverting some of that funding to further improve academics), it's already much better than average. I'm proud to be a Red Devil.

Hated this school. I'm so glad I left it. They try and be something that they're not. Absolutely no diversity here. A lot of stuck up privileged kids who think they're all that. Teachers half the time act like you're bothering them. They apparently have a no bullying policy? Please, that school is full of them. Food is overpriced as well.

I never felt welcomed, Communication was totally off, my questions and concerns were not answered nor resolved, I felt like some people were being mean to my special needs child, I never got good answers to concerns about his well being, I only felt accepted by one person and that was Mrs. Chris. I counted the days to leave in my second year, but first year was semi okay.
