Went on the Halloween Candlelight Tour, and I must say, it war very well done. I had been to a couple "haunted houses" earlier in the week, but none were all that great.
The staff here were very lively and entertaining and did an excellent job of telling a historical story while still keeping the spooky settings.
Although I can't really speak for the normal for, the house in general was interesting, but nothing too fascinating that I might go again. I'd still highly recommend their limited-time Candlelight Tour.

I lived in San Jose for most of my life and I never been here until recently. It is a wonderful place to check out and see how houses were built back then. This house has great history tied in with it! I would say it's a little pricy but you get what you pay for! Totally recommend!

This place was amazing. The tour guide was also very nice. My young niece and nephew came with us and my niece definitely took to her :). She was very informative on the history and structure of the house. It will definitely want to make you see the movie. The only disappointing part is there's not allowed any picture taking during the actual tour. But completely understandable. But it's definitely worth the visit.

Quirky house with a great story/history. Interesting and worth visit, especially for people interested in ghost hunting. Aside from the two tours available there are lovely gardens, a cafe, a gift shop to enjoy.

I did the Halloween night time tour of the house. The tour guide was very informative of the history of the house. They try to make it a haunted house but it would have been better without all the props and actors.

Parking is free, and there are several signs advertising free admission. However be advised this only means admission to the grounds. To see the inside of the house it is $40, and there are no pictures allowed.

This place is straight up weird, in a very 'you've gotta check it out' kind of way. Stay close with you group. I pride myself on my sense of direction, but I had no idea where I was ever. You will really enjoy this go and find out how crazy you aren't.

I remember coming here back when I was around like 8 and I had a pretty rad experience. It was my first time going to an actual historic site since there are not many in the entire city. The whole mansion was well kept it is almost as if it never aged. It is amazing how huge the whole place is, so many rooms, so many places to walk around in. The tour guide was pretty nice, the common area was also very well kept and clean. This is definitely a must for field trips or just a cool place to take your children to. It really makes you feel like you are back in the early 1900's. The atmosphere of the mansion is for sure eerie, while it is well lit, the old furniture adds a spooky element to the experience. While my visit had absolutely no paranormal sightings, or experiences I can see why some may claim to have see creepy stuff. As an addition it is always good to appreciate the early wonders of the city of San Jose. All in all this is definitely and experience I wont be forgetting for the rest of my life.

Definitely plan ahead, this is an amazing one hour tour. If we'd had more time we would have taken advantage of the Beyond Tour but unfortunately had to catch a flight. The house isn't anything you'd imagine it would be. It is strange and creepy, but at the same time there are features you'd desire in your own living space. We're definitely planning on visiting again. Our tour guide Meagan was delightful!

Such a pleasant experience even during this pandemic (being careful of course). Everyone was extremely kind: from the woman checking us in, the sweet janitor, and the gentleman helping along the self guided tour. Hope to visit again when indoor tours open.

Did the tour of the house, which was really interesting, because Mrs. Winchester was really a bit crazy. For example, you had to build doors where you had to be careful not to go through them, otherwise you would fall down. Or cabinets where you could put nothing in it. Or a staircase that is so intricate, because she had no space and she also constructed with very flat steps, that you could go up even in old age. and much more. crazy easy. So something different anyway and hope that the house will continue to be preserved. So hurry, because there are more and more tourists. (-;

The tour was interesting and my parties' guide was knowledgeable and at times comic. It did feel like a bit of a typical tourist trap in the waiting area before the tour, but overall the tour was worth it and I would recommend visiting if in the area. The main tour was a little over an hour long.

Bit disappointed when you compare what it offers for that price. It is impressive as a building/house. But other than that it's just a bunch of stairs and old rooms. Probably enjoying this attraction is a matter of taste.

I took two tours on my visit and was not dissapointed. Saw almost all the rooms except for 11! The guides are funny and so knowledgeable. I had wanted to visit for years and it really was worth it. In the earthquake room, I totally felt a ghostie touch my shoulder. It was awesome!

I went here for a corporate event. It was okay. You walk around and learn about the history of the place. Our first tour guide gave us the general walk around of the place. He was excited and had character when showing off the house. We did the extended tour and unfortunately the guy seemed nervous and wasn't as cheery. He was nice though. I would say you should at least visit this place once. If you don't visit it, you're not really missing out on much.

About Winchester Mystery House

The Winchester Mystery House™ is a unique architectural wonder and historic landmark located in San Jose, California. This bizarre home was built by Sarah Winchester, the widow of William Wirt Winchester, who was the heir to the famous Winchester rifle fortune. The house is known for its strange design and mysterious features that have fascinated visitors for over a century.

Sarah Winchester began building the house in 1884 after her husband's death. She believed that she was cursed by the spirits of those killed by the rifles made by her family's company and that building this house would appease them. As a result, she continued to add rooms and features to the house until her death in 1922.

The architecture of this mansion is truly unique with its many staircases leading nowhere, doors opening onto walls or drops into other rooms below, secret passageways, and hidden rooms. The mansion has over 160 rooms spread across four floors with an intricate maze-like layout that can be confusing even for experienced visitors.

One of the most fascinating aspects of this mansion is its use of numerology throughout its design. Sarah believed that certain numbers had special significance and incorporated them into every aspect of her home's construction. For example, there are thirteen bathrooms in the mansion because Sarah believed that number brought good luck.

Visitors can take guided tours through this bizarre home to learn about its history and explore some of its most intriguing features such as a door leading out onto a two-story drop or stairs leading up to a ceiling with no way down.

In addition to being an architectural marvel, The Winchester Mystery House™ also has historical significance as it provides insight into Victorian-era life in America. Visitors can see how people lived during this time period through their furnishings and decor choices throughout different parts of the mansion.

Overall, The Winchester Mystery House™ is an incredible destination for anyone interested in architecture or history. Its unique design combined with its fascinating backstory makes it one-of-a-kind attraction not just in San Jose but all around California!
