Over the years I have taken a number of visiting friends to the Winchester mystery house. I would recommend the candle light tour and flashlight tours the most, but the normal tour is also very interesting.
Each time I have had a different guide, and feel like its a totally different experience, all of theme were very knowledgeable on the history and if they didn't know the answer off the top of their head they knew where to get it. Since the movie came out the gift shop has gotten a little larger of a selection, it used to be half Winchester Gun Museum but overall not much has changed over the years. Beware if your tall watch your head and be aware there are a lot of different steps. I hear they added basement tour in 2018 but I haven't gotten to take that one yet. I highly recommend you see this interesting part of American History while you still can. The real story is more interesting then the movie in my opinion!

Such an amazing experience. Definitely worth the cost for the extended tour! My tour guides were amazing!! I forgot my first tour guide's name, but he had dark hair and glasses. And my second one was Kora! She's great!!!

I dreamed of going to visit this place since I read about 15 years ago. At last I made it, The tour was well done and everything we got to see was very cool, I wish there had been more that we were able to see, because it seems we were only able to see the tip of the iceberg!

Visiting the Winchester Mystery House is definitely worth visiting as a tourist or a local. Try to stick with the group because you can easily take a wrong turn. My friend and I took the Explore More tour right after and it was cool to cover the whole house and see some eerie rooms.

Note: I came here for an Axe throwing event, so I can only comment to that part.

The event was well staffed and more fun than I thought it would be. Throwing axes (with some precision) is actually harder than it seems, and heckling your friends in a friendly competition is possibly the best part. At this time, the prices are a bit on the high side: $10 for 13 throws (which go by very quickly). If you want to try it, I'd buget for at lest 26 or 39 throws ($20, $30). I don't know if they have cheaper options for volume.

It was a different experience as the architecture of the house is amazing. Tour guide was good and explained well about the house well. The only negative thing was the entry ticket which I feel is bit over priced.

My class is studying The Legend Of Sarah Winchester and we learned A LOT about this topic. I really want to see Winchester that comes out tomorrow. The Winchester House is a haunted landmark that is owned by the heartbroken Sarah Winchester. If you ever visit San Jose, CA then you should go see the house. (I have never been to San Jose, CA but now I want to go for a weekend just to see this house.)

I didn't pay for the full tour, but I was pleasantly surprised at how much I could see without paying. The grounds are beautiful and they had an extensive collection of Whinchester guns. I'd recommend this to gun enthusiasts and anyone who likes walking through gardens.

First off this house is really really gorgeous. You can easily spend a half hour checking out the gardens and taking a million photos.

The pricing of the tour was a little high for me, but still worth it. My spouse was very skeptical about touring a house as part of our vacation, but it ended up being his favorite part. I mean checking out a place with a seance room, stairways and doors to nowhere is really really ridiculously cool.

Really interesting. The house of the historian Sarah Winchester who built for years oppressed by the obsession with the spirits of the people killed by their weapons. It is interesting to see all the constructive games that are part of it and that are still shrouded in mystery about the real reason, constructive defects due to the lack of a project or ploy to divert and confuse the spirits. The Mansion tour lasts just over an hour and is accompanied by a guide explaining all the rooms you visit. On request they have material in other languages. At the end it is possible to visit the museum with a tour and the gardens. The price is not really very low but acceptable.

I've been a few times now, but this is my first time going to the Friday the 13th flashlight tour. It's pretty cool. The darkness really suited the mood. A chance to peer into the shadows. I recommend it.

Very interesting, sprawling and confusing house. Visitors fees help maintain it, it's a wood structure so requires constant repair. I would go again to see what I missed this first time. The Explore More tour was also a good opportunity to see additional areas of the house that arent covered on the standard tour including unfinished areas and more weirdness.

The grounds, decorations are tour were all beautiful and lovely. Our tour guide McKenna was friendly and informative. The gift shop is large, I bought a few items and especially liked the pin set. I collect pins and their selection was good.

My husband and I walked over to the axe throwing area by the stables, the young man working there was friendly, professional and gracious. My husband had not done any axe throwing in the past but with the help of the guy assisting us, he learned quickly and had a great time, I didn't catch the guy's name but he is a younger fellow with long hair, and he deserves acknowledgment for great service and making us feel welcome and comfortable with a new experience.

The Winchester Mystery House is definitely a sight to see. During the guided tour of 100+ of 160 total rooms (a medium told Mrs. Winchester that she would continue to live as long as she kept adding to her house) you will see staircases that lead nowhere and doors that open to multi story drops both inside and outside of the house. You will also see the first commercial elevator that was installed in a private residence. Also of interest at the house are the gardens and the collection of Winchester and other makes of firearms displayed in a small museum.

This was my third time at the Winchester house and I've enjoyed every single one of my tours. I always learn something new on each visit! We went on the hour long Mansion tour which I felt was perfect for our group's needs. I've also taken the flashlight tour which gives the house a different ambiance as you explore the home in the dark. So if you're in the area close to Halloween, that might be a good tour to take. In the summer I recommend going in the morning since the house isn't air conditioned. There's a gun museum on the property, as well as a pretty garden area to walk around in.

OMG... Must go and do the second tour so worth it. Very informative and exciting. Lots of history to be learned. Our tour persons made it so much fun. The prices aren't bad at all. Well except the gift shop. Lol but that's most gift shops.

Very impressive... I loved the style and architecture... the grounds are well kept and expansive... The house lives up to the hype and the tour was very informative... There are also many "free" areas, that give you some insight and are worthy of a look-see if you are in a hurry and have no time for the tour, or are on a budget... The tours and tickets are a little pricey, but worth it... The gift shop has a nice variety of items at many price points... Parking is free... Weekdays are your best times... A small tour group offers the best experience... Have fun and don't get lost...

It was my first time going and kind of sad I did not feel any 'spirits'. But regardless if you believe that or not, it is highly educational and fascinating! A beautiful and historical home with amazing staff and tour guides. Truly a treasure!

Always a fun place to visit. Fourth time and i still enjoy the house. Interestingly, this time got some new info on the history of the house and how you can not always believe what you hear! Ask a tour guide...I wont spoil it! Not all will be so forthcoming about the true story of Sarah Winchester!

This house has to be haunted for sure. I'm not sure if the employees were playing a trick on us or not but I swear I followed a shadow around the hallway corner and it disappeared as soon as I rounded the corner. It gave me the heebie jeebies.

Definitely worth seeing. I was expecting a much grander house I did not realize it would be a large house but so many small rooms. I also expected to see more staircases going nowhere and windows ending in other rooms. I don't know if that's no longer part of the tour but that used to be a big part of the lore of this house.

This place is really cool. I've been wanting to visit for a long time. We chose to do the "candle lit" haunted house tour and it was cool. I've never been there during the day but the house was lit up enough during the night tour that I was able to see most of the place. In the chaos of a friday night, I missed the parking lot and ened up on the freeway. Sucked for me but we still made our tour on time. Be careful where you turn.

I love this house! The tours are great, the tour guides are fun and knowledgeable, and the house itself is remarkable! I don't know if it's possible (I haven't looked into it) but my kids and I would love to book a more leisurely private tour. We passed by so many rooms and interesting nooks and crannies but wasn't able to take pictures due to the size of the group and the time restraints. Can't wait to go back for a midnight tour!!!

About Winchester Mystery House

The Winchester Mystery House™ is a unique architectural wonder and historic landmark located in San Jose, California. This bizarre home was built by Sarah Winchester, the widow of William Wirt Winchester, who was the heir to the famous Winchester rifle fortune. The house is known for its strange design and mysterious features that have fascinated visitors for over a century.

Sarah Winchester began building the house in 1884 after her husband's death. She believed that she was cursed by the spirits of those killed by the rifles made by her family's company and that building this house would appease them. As a result, she continued to add rooms and features to the house until her death in 1922.

The architecture of this mansion is truly unique with its many staircases leading nowhere, doors opening onto walls or drops into other rooms below, secret passageways, and hidden rooms. The mansion has over 160 rooms spread across four floors with an intricate maze-like layout that can be confusing even for experienced visitors.

One of the most fascinating aspects of this mansion is its use of numerology throughout its design. Sarah believed that certain numbers had special significance and incorporated them into every aspect of her home's construction. For example, there are thirteen bathrooms in the mansion because Sarah believed that number brought good luck.

Visitors can take guided tours through this bizarre home to learn about its history and explore some of its most intriguing features such as a door leading out onto a two-story drop or stairs leading up to a ceiling with no way down.

In addition to being an architectural marvel, The Winchester Mystery House™ also has historical significance as it provides insight into Victorian-era life in America. Visitors can see how people lived during this time period through their furnishings and decor choices throughout different parts of the mansion.

Overall, The Winchester Mystery House™ is an incredible destination for anyone interested in architecture or history. Its unique design combined with its fascinating backstory makes it one-of-a-kind attraction not just in San Jose but all around California!
