WHITTON & LAING Review

They are very disorganised and communication with them is very difficult. They have delayed flat repairs by not forwarding on the fact that the insurance company needed futher documentation by 6 weeks! If you want anything done it requires a lot of chasing and and they do not look after properties well. They do the bare minimum required by a management company.
When one of the property owners didn't pay his management fee they just requested the other owners to pay his debt instead but a year on they can't find the record of why that amount of dept was added to my account.

We recently sold our house with Whitton & Laing. Our agent was David Gibson. He was professional and helpful throughout the process, which was during the covid crisis so an interesting time to sell a house! The photography and marketing were excellent and generated a lot of viewings straight away, so that we were able to accept a good offer within one week of it appearing on the market. David was highly responsive to our calls and communicated well with the viewers and then with the buyer as we went through the paperwork. I would strongly recommend Whitton & Laing.

Called up today to discuss potentially booking a viewing of a property. When politely enquiring as to whether house viewings were currently being completed with the current Covid pandemic in mind, the gentleman on the phone laughed and proceed to reply in a very condescending tone about how estate agents 'have been working over the last 6 weeks'.
He did not offer any helpful advice for viewing properties at this time, nor did he request to take any of our information / enquire further into the property we wished to view.
I am disappointed with the lack of professionalism and politeness, especially at a time in which we all have to question and think about our usual ways of working.
Unfortunately we really liked the property in question, but will not be taking this further due to the lack of professionalism at the first point of contact with Whitton and Laing.

Whitton and Laing, as a residential letting agency, provide first class letting services. Initially extremely helpful when setting up flat for rental. Have secured suitable tenants very promptly. Excellent communications throughout tenancy and deal quickly with any tenants enquiries without necessarily having to refer to the Landlord. Very thorough check on property during and after tenancy. Would thoroughly recommend.

After renting a property off of Whitton & Laing for 13 months I can vouch for the professional manner in which all transactions were dealt. The move in and out was seamless and the speed to which any issues were resolved was impressive. I would recommend them as a rental company without hesitation.

Amazing agents. David and Chris were brilliant and I can't rate them highly enough.They made things so easy and smoothly especially as I'd lost my dad and had to sell his house so it was a very upsetting time. Also I lived in Plymouth and my dad's house was in Exeter but David and Chris looked after everything for me and worked so hard to sell my dad's house. It sold very quickly and they even got over the asking price for me. I can't thank them enough and if I could give them more than 5 stars I would.They were amazing and my daughter who herself is an Estate Agent agreed and was very impressed with them too.

I have trusted Whitton and Laing with my lettings properties for many years. Vetting of prospective tenants is thorough and I have secured several excellent tenants; many of whom have stayed for several years. They respond quickly to any concerns raised by tenants and often attend to any necessary works without the need to contact me; using their own preferred tradesmen. I consider their management of the relationship between tenants and landlord to be professional and fair to both parties and would have no hesitation in engaging them on further occasions.

I have used this firm on several previous occassions and was again very impressed with their thorough, professional and honest approach. I've recently moved into a new place with my partner and everyone I dealt/ am dealing with at Whitton & Laing are nothing but helpful. Massively grateful for the service they provide and would the business recommend to anyone.

We have sold and rented out several properties through Whitton & Laing. A super helpful, good old fashioned estate and letting agent with expert knowledge and excellent customer service. Great location too! Will always recommend them.

Terrible customer care and rude staff.

We rented a property with Whitton & Laing for over 9 years, during that time the team were really friendly and so quick to respond to any issues that we had. They always ensured that the house was safe and secure for us to live in. Any contractors that they sent to the house were also friendly and well mannered.

I have been renting through Whitton and Laing for almost 3 years. They have treated me fairly as a tenant, have been very responsive to requests and sorted ant maintenance issues quickly. I would highly recommend them. Friendly staff, professional service.

We purchased a house from Whitton and Laing. From the very beginning communication from Sally was fantastic and always friendly. She kept us informed and updated and went above and beyond when our the sale of our own house was slowing the process down. I would not hesitate to recommend them and we would certainly use them ourselves if we were to ever to move again. Thank you so much for everything.

Went through hell with this agent after vacating our property with the contract satisfied and all payments up to date. They decided to deduct an extortionate amount based on what they considered "damages" and "poor cleaning", including an issue we had already raised with them in the past but conveniently ignored now. They even went as far as telling us if we accepted liability for a contractor's payment, then they'd return the rest of our money. Regardless, once the contractor had their way they decided they would require payment of a further 60%!

They'll try to milk you for every penny they can. Avoid if you value your time, money, property and sanity.

Edit: In response to the quite franky insulting response that glosses over the key issues in my original review, the issues that became apparent with this agent were long after I sent the email assuming they were 'great agents'. This is just another thing conveniently ignored by this terrible company. Furthermore, we could not come to an agreement because the agent simply ignored everything we had to say, multiple points were ignored in our messages to them and the agent once didn't reply to us for 6 days, again, ignoring what we said in our original email anyway. Please note that the Tenancy Deposit Scheme made an error in the adjudication process which we raised through their complaints procedure, in which they accepted and apologised. The entire system and process of dealing with this issue was incredibly stressful, and could've been easily avoided if this agent actually had a little competence.

My partner and I have rented a property with Whitton & Laing who have been really good to us; they've always been very polite and helpful on the phone, and have been quick to sort issues either the same day or the following day.

We'd be eager to let or buy with them in the future!

I lived in a property managed by Whitton & Laing for one and a half years. The few maintenance issues which cropped up during that time were dealt with without hassle, even in our new socially distanced world.

All queries and correspondence related to the letting were handled quickly, friendly and professionally. I will definitely be considering using their services in future if necessary!

We decided to rent our house out with Whitton and Laing and we have had exceptional service from both Lianna and Katie. They have been professional and conscientious whilst dealing with our new tenants and ourselves. We would highly recommend their services.

I do not recommend this letting agent to anyone.
1. They are able to let an apartment in really bad condition (broken fridge, washing machine and hot water boiler, and tap water leaking) and the service to repair them was quite slow and of poor quality.
2. The worst was to end the tenancy and to get our deposit back. I rented a lot of apartment in my life and it was the most terrible experience. Before the end of the tenancy, the letting agent did not hesitate to threaten and harass us about the costs for redecorating the whole premises because of supposed damages due to cigarette smoke. After vacating the property, the amount of deduced costs was almost equal to the amount of the deposit. It was so unreasonable that we had to raise a dispute to the Tenancy Deposit Scheme. The TDS finally proved us right, but what a bad and stressful experience, and what a waste of time to claim our rights.
So, if you want to rent an apartment in Exeter, avoid Whitton and Laing.
