I contacted Stephen Wolpert at Whitten and Lublin in anticipation of my job loss. This was over a year ago. I have been very appreciative of the guidance and steady hand through a difficult time. Stephen has educated and kept me well informed on all aspects of the laws surrounding employment in Ontario. I would highly recommend Stephen Wolpert to anyone having employment questions or difficulties.
Paid over $1,700 for their services and only received a two month extension of benefits which I cannot use at the moment due to the pandemic. They did refund $500 but I am still out close to $1,200 which I have had to use my CERB to pay off. Ultimately a bad risk that did not pay off at all.
Paid $581.95 for a 45 minute consult with the top lawyer at the firm and was essentially guaranteed a 4 month - 12 month severance package. Lawyer essentially read off the terms of my contract on the call and provided the same advice two other (no charge) lawyers had provided on their consult.
Paid $1,130 to keep them on retainer. A demand letter was drafted as part of this retainer as well as some back and forth with the employer via email. I was I was kept in the loop more with regards to the back and forth...but I guess it is what it is
I decided to use this law firm since they were the top firm for employment matters and I figured they could get me the most money for my wrongful dismissal. I assumed a 2 week severance where my contract stated a 2 month payout, would be a slam dunk. I guess not.
Covid aside, I thought the firm and one of the top lawyers in the country would push harder on this for me. Why do we have employment lawyers if they cannot win a simple "violated contract" case? It is very frustrating that I have to stay on top of them as well.
In the end, I should have kept my money and not pursued legal action. Or use a purely contingency based lawyer. At least I would be at break even.
Revision : They cannot comment because numbers do not lie unfortunately. They even tried to threaten me to take down the review because the lawyer claimed "It would hurt my case" and "If I thought a couple thousand bucks was a lot...than your employer would take you to court knowing you couldn't afford it".
Having had to deal with an employment situation and needing legal counsel, I started doing my research looking for the best employment attorney in Toronto.
