Previous to signing onto a new job, I had a friend and lawyer review my new agreement. He brought up some general considerations and a few recommendations. I feel that my experience was not what I expected after reading the many 5-star reviews on here. I know the firm will immediately call this a "FAKE" review, but it isn't. I contacted them 4 months ago after being fired from my job (I was told that I had harassed a coworker, which was the first time I had heard about it, and wasn't given any severance) I paid almost $400 to speak with one of their associates. A steep price, but I figured that it was worth it. I was told that I would get at least 1 hour of time with the lawyer, but I actually only received 30 minutes or so. The entire conversation the lawyer in question sounded almost distracted, and I found myself repeating numerous parts of my case. By the end of the call, it was as almost as if the lawyer was trying to convince me NOT to pursue the matter! After the conversation, I felt gutted and confused. I wanted a second opinion. I contacted another Toronto firm that does free consultations, and they were much more receptive to my case. We're actually close to finalizing a severance package with my old boss without having to go to court and adding costs.
Think twice before paying the high consultation fees. Maybe the lawyer I spoke to didn't really want to take on another client, but wanted to at least pocket a few hundred dollars for a short consultation?
