Worth a visit but too much is given over to paying exhibitions.
Beautiful gallery but always a bit disappointed by the exhibitions. Great bookshop - art/design books and gifts. They have a cafe but I haven't tried it.
Brilliant curated exhibitions and never too crowded even on weekends, not to mention their free workshops.
A nice gallery with a good coffee shop, although the art can be a bit hit and miss. The current Mark Dion exhibition is good.
Friendly gallery with interesting free exhibitions and some paid. The new Anna Maria Maiolino is worth seeing.
Depends on the Exhibit. The one I saw was 4 rooms of c*ock and b*alls. It's probably better some other time.
Oh, and you can't take photos here :(
Relatively small gallery with rotating contemporary art exhibitions. While generally not my cup of tea there was an installation of a small booth for two people to converse in. Being a group of general awkward people it was amusing, if a bit panic inducing.
They can have nice exhibitions. Personally I don't really like the atmosphere of this museum.
small but interesting gallery. worth a visit if you are in the area.
Always contemporary, imaginative and unpredictable with a great bookshop and cafe.
Small gallery with sands 9 Rooms of which only 3 or 4 sullen have free Estrada.
Currently it is necessary to reserve in advance and wear a mask
One of the most innovative spaces in London for all genres of artists
Impressive and inspirational. Be sure to do the paid route.
awesome gallery and fun, vibrant environment in city of London,
Wonderous gallery with spot on and affective exhibitions. They seem to challenge themselves and the viewer often and in a refreshing amout.
I always pop by when im in town and encourage artists and art enthusiasts to do the same.
Fantastic contemporary art venue based across a few floors with brilliant book shop and cafe. About half a dozen rooms and areas usually mixing paid and free exhibitions. Make sure you pop in soon!
Free, recommended to visit contemporary art exhibitions
Just shows where modern art is going. Some works I saw on the wall were puerile, meaningless and downright ridiculous. Have added pics...
Very good for a small art gallery at an area you wouldn't expect to visit one. A mix of art displays, some more on the contemporary side and more difficult to process. Each room had a different display so you're guaranteed that at lest one or two will be to your taste.
A must visit for everyone interested in no main stream contemporary art.
Good place to pass time while waiting near the station
It's not bad, I would not go on purpose but as I stay next to it I'll get closer.
Enjoying the art galleries is a good way to ignore all everyday problems ever for a while. I like Whitechapel Gallery and its pleasant atmosphere that makes me feel relaxed. The exhibition are always so inspiring. Nice place with a good location.
Interesting gallery, really pitty that the ppl that work in there specially on the last flor don t let u enjoy the art neither take any pictures
Free gallery, featuring changing exhibitions of contemporary art. Good bookshop and a cafe.
Great gallery, definitely!!! Always great exhibitions
The outside of the gallery was more impressive than the exhibits inside, look up when you are standing outside it is beautiful. The gallery itself features different modern exhibitions throughout the year and we happened to choose a time when nothing seemed to capture our attention.
A diverse range of exhibitions on display here throughout the year, with both free and paid for events and exhibitions there is always something to see. It has a lovely little book shop too. There are disabled access lifts around the gallery and staff are really helpful and friendly. As well as the cafe in the gallery there are some great tea/coffee shops near by on Whitechapel high street.
East London's gallery, a bit small but a lot to see
Great mix of art, and art styles. Truly something for everyone.
Contemporary art the best of London. Extremely curated free and paid exhibitions presented in an accessible way to anyone. Friendly and helpful staff. Attention to all details! At least half a day calmly. Unmissable
Excellent contemporary gallery with large space ideal for art display. Exhibitions change. I've been to some that are disappointing but the better ones are absolutely superb; stimulating and inspiring. I guess to be challenging and interesting, contemporary galleries will risk the occasional exhibition that doesn't engage all but hurrah for galleries prepared to take the risk
Great space for events in the community. Staff are friendly, some art pieces are a little inappropriate however.
Great little gallery in an up and coming area of London.
Easy to find and get to.
Well worth the visit.
Big exhibition space with eclectic programmation focused on contemporary art. Paying and free exhibitions. Home to an excellent restaurant and an art bookshop
This is a beautiful, unique space and one I'd highly recommend visiting. The last exhibition I saw was the Max Mara Women's Art Prize and I felt that the space had been curated very skillfully and considerately on the film piece in the centre of the room. I'm not ashamed to admit that my favourite thing about this gallery is the magnificent book shop; I could happily spend hours in it.
Very good Gallery with plenty of exhibitions every year
Nice small gallery, but I did not really enjoy the exhibition, it was all too feminist.
Behind that distinctive and idiosyncratic facade this gallery the stuff of legend. Always a stimulating destination that justifies repeated visits. Top-notch, you'll be back.
I enjoyed the free display - booked online this Thursday but was able to book just before visit- then stayed and bought ticket for the painting show. A relaxing visit with measures in place that made it feel safe and comfortable under current circumstances. Lovely staff. The painting show wasn't to my personal taste but enjoyed the room about their process and then a conversation with an invigilator really brought out interest in what I was looking at (thank you to the man who talked about the Moseley paintings). A really nice first gallery visit post lock down.
Visited this small but interesting gallery while staying in the area recently. I didn't have a lot of time so didn't get to see the Elmsted & Dragsted exhibits which sounded interesting, if a little pricey. The 'surreal science' was the More
Way over priced .. Over wise you could not all for much more from this temple of brilliance
Extremely quirky and variable constantly changing exhibits. Always worth checking out but not always worth the time in my experience. Of course as always different strokes for different folks and I can't fault anything I have seen there for artistic vision and true effort fulfilled.
Thought Sussman's Algorithmicnoir and the Once Heard Before pieces were great! Certainly got me thinking about influences of computer algorithms, their function in relation to control & copyright some more. Bookshop good too.
Astonishing pieces of art, great artists and nice little shop and cafeteria. It is big enough not to tire you out.
Small but highly interesting gallery. Always changing. Always fresh. The content is generally modern and up to date
Always strange things going on. Great mix of displays.
A lovely local gallery showcasing international & local artwork.
It offers both free & admission fee exhibitions, pleasant cafe & an interesting and well- stocked bookshop.
Clean, airy & easily accessible by transport links.
Somewhat slightly confusing layout, but a pleasant place to spend an hour or so.......
Nice gallery for photography and art lovers. Great book shop
modern museum in London. Not that big compare to traditional museum in London
I love this art gallery and spent a lot of time here as an art school student
It's better or worst depending on the exhibitions they have, but generally a very intersting place to spend a couple of hours
This is a truly inspiring place with a mix of culture and creative vibes. A lovely little gallery in the heart of London, well worth a quick visit when in Shoreditch. We spent about an hour here. There is a shop, cafe and toilet facilities.
Was rather disappointed given the hype this place gets. A short visit. The cafe inside was also a huge disappointment very small selection and reminiscent of a one man job on one of those cafe vans at the side of the road.
The Bauhaus festival last weekend was great fun for the children and the parents as well. Very well thought and brought together: the members of the staff from both rooms were involved and really attentive and affectionate with the children. Congrats and big thank you guys!!
One of the few london galleries I've been to which exhibited a majority of women artists. Wonderful exhibitions and great shop.
Great mix of free exhibits which I think are updated regularly
Just discovered Whitehchapel Gallery a few weeks back - it's gorgeous! If you do make it to Whitechapel, go to the gallery and have dinner at nearby Pakistani restaurant Tayebs. The gallery runs regular events and is spacious and has an eclectic collection.
I do like coming here at times, sometimes there are a few gems of a show, but I find the main exhibitions rather expensive and usually lack that wow factor. But still it's a nice building, cafe is okay, staff can be a bit grumpy, not very welcoming. Hit and miss of a place, need to read up first to see if its worth the effort. Find the Leyden Gallery, which is nearby, now that's certainly worth a visit, it's free and usually hosts some exciting works.
