Unless you re doing hardcore construction (and even in those moments) you will find what you need. The staff is very helpful, and have knowledge on needs for different types of project. I worked with Chuck to get what I needed to mount a TV and he couldn t have been more helpful.

I love this store and feel lucky that we have a store in the neighborhood with such excellent customer service. I had a weird paint situation where we couldn t get the paint to match between the quart and gallon.But the store did everything possible to fix it. Shout out to Chuck for going above and beyond. This is a classic hardware store with friendly, helpful staff. I needed a key made. They have a real keymaker that makes high quality keys.
Unpleasant experience, every single time. They are grossly understaffed and poorly managed. I always say I'm going to walk further to get Benjamin Moore paint. Some of the staff have really poor attitudes, but I kinda don't blame them. It should never take,30 minutes to get a quart of paint. This place is just unpleasant, sometimes rude, always slow, and and generally puts a dark spot on my usually carefree days. ********Update... one day later. 1 cashier. 4 people in line. 20 other customers in the store standing around looking for help. On every transaction the cashier needs help from a manager, but there is no manager. I needed two gallons of paint. I had written the brand, grade, sheen, and color codes on a piece of paper ahead of time. I was in the store for 45 minutes. That's just too long.
So great to have this place in the neighborhood. Yeah it's a little more expensive than Home Depot, but you didn't have to go to Home Depot...

Even when I tried the splash of color on my wall and thought it was too bright, Matt and Matt took extraordinary measures to help me get the shade I wanted. I had a delightful time talking through the color experiments that I would have tried without their expertise. I'm so glad to see that a few owner/operated Ace Hardware stores are still in business. Wal-Mart, Lowe's, etc. have killed local hardware across the United States. I'm not much of a handy-man and I don't have to be living in a unit in a highrise. However, there are times when I need drano, floor treatment, lights, paint, a few tools, potting soil, a fawcett, the guts to a toilet tank, household cleaners, brooms, mops, etc. As soon as you walk in that door there is someone to help guide you. I'm looking for the paint department. He/she doesn't point, they bring you over to paint and introduce you to the paint technician who immediately and sincerely asks how are you and how can that person help. The last time I walked into Ace, I went to the paint department and was poring over god knows how many color samples trying to match my living room color. I finally asked the paint tech if she could recommend anything close to the color of the paint chip I was holding in my hand. I had no idea colors could be matched and custom mixed. That paint was perfect. Still don't know how they do that. The employees are always happy to help trouble shoot a problem I'm having. They tell me what parts I need, how it needs to be done and how long it should take me. I swear I love those employees because they have expertise with authority. I've never been made to feel dumb although I know I've asked some pretty dumb questions. In summary, here are my reasons for a 5-star rating and why anyone reading this would do very well to visit the Ace for any reason. 1. Expertise and want to share it. 2. Incredibly helpful staff. 3. A very understanding and fair return policy. 3. Products you won't find anywhere else all together in a neighborhood. 4. A local business where things are not always easy and where it might have been easier to pick up stakes and move out. Here's an example of what you might find in here. It was pouring down rain, I mean pouring, and a very well dressed woman came into the store half soaked. "you don't by chance sell umbrellas do you? Yes they did, a very nice large one for $12 and the employee also give her a plastic poncho. Seriously, who sells ponchos with paint? I love this place. You will to if you go there.Tell 'em Mo sent you (my nickame and they know it).

I've been coming to this Ace for years and still do even though I now live next to the Ace at 680 Lake Shore. What a difference in attitude and service. This one is great, the other could hardly be any worse.
The staff exhibits pleasantries as you enter the store, inquiries regarding your visit then tell you what aisle. Off you go to sort threw volumes of items alone without assistance. This occurred three times that I have frequented the store. I have had to search for environmental friendly paint, hooks for large paintings and curtain hooks. As a result, I prefer to patronize Home Depot where there are sufficient staff.
Calvin wasn't much help. He was very short on patience. Took a few minutes to get a straight answer, even when the employees asked the same question.
