The University of the West of England, Bristol is a public research university located in and around Bristol, England. It was founded in 1595.
I and Navin Ghorecha visited this UWE-Bristol in April 2013.
We visited many departments and liked the way students are learning and implementing what the faculties are teaching....

After graduating during a pandemic and talking to ...

After graduating during a pandemic and talking to a friend (who did the same course in Portsmouth, my 2nd choice) I realise how little I was actually taught.

There were some absolutely amazing lecturers who really know how to teach, some knowledgeable lecturers who unfortunately can't teach, and then some absolutely appalling "lecturers" who should never be allowed to be left alone.

Nothing better than a "lecturer" who when asked a question says "Idk, google it" or laughs at you then walks away, to fall asleep at his desk...

Despite being a coding course there was a severe lack of actual coding taught resulting in a percentage of graduates wishing to completely avoid the industry as well as they can.

Being a final year student throughout COVID-19 absolutely sucked... almost all staff went on leave at the exact same time and, bar few, completely blanked all communication 2/2 MONTHS BEFORE FINAL DEADLINES.

I sent my dissertation supervisor a message 1 month before the deadline asking for help. I never got a response to it to this day, next time I spoke to him was during my final presentation...

Bristol is a beautiful city and the nightlife is absolutely awesome, I want to return soon however, left wondering if I would have been better off attending Portsmouth instead.

TL;DR:
Some great lecturers, some absolute disgraces. Lack of essential coding teaching for a coding course was told to "Just Google It" for answers...

No worries on my side for the next two weeks at the end of the week spent with you and I thank you for your confidence for the rest of the week spent with my partner who was made yesterday in Paris for an internship in Paris and I told you both online at my account and at my expense and you gave me the time and the right email address and you gave me the address of your bank so I registered on your site and I have not yet received a response for the moment I left you a letter that I did not receive

I will always be grateful to the UWE, the English educational system and the people of Bristol. I wouldn't be an international civil servant today without my LL.B studies of 1999. Thank you Rafael Pepiol, Asun Garnham, Janice Pattison and all Faculty members. Attached a picture from the student accommodation property outside Frenchay campus from 1999.

Absolute joke of an admin team, they couldnt make a cooked breakfast let alone organise themselves; they are impatient and dont listen to any of my questions and messed up my application by giving me an offer with MORE requirements than is actually advertised on their site! Joke.

Fantastic campus, with great buildings and facilities. The lectures was really insightful. Their support system for students could be monitored a little better, but overall I enjoyed my time here and would recommend the University to others.

Avoid this university if you can, I was a first year student who was struggling and I told a lecturer about this, and they couldn t care less. Leaving was the best decision I ever made and now I m going to Exeter uni instead next year where they actually support their students. I had really high expectations of this university but it really is not worth going to, there are plenty other better universities out there.

Glenside Campus: I took a Masters in Public Health, library facilities good but crowded, sometimes closing hours not well signposted on the net. Teaching on the course adequateand one or two lecturers outstanding, but dissertation supervision really poor. A very lazy and flakey supervisor and total failure of the course leader to sort the situation .
University Complaints Department appears to exist to defend the Faculty and its members rather than a proper investigation of the complaint, so no learning from student experiences.Much denial, incredibly, that there were ever any problems with supervision.
Overseas students also paid a lot more for the course and as their course was effectively 2 part-time courses on top of each other, they did badly compared to home candidates as they didn't follow the core modules in the same logical order as the home students. Suspect these poor folk were the cash cow for the Faculty.
Glenside Campus is I suspect a bitter disappointment to the 18+ student. A largely closed student union and an empty campus at weekends. To a mature student, there seem to be a surfeit of extraordinarily young professors busy protecting their own interests while education and fee paying students take a back seat.
The redeeming factor was how hard the librarians went out of their way to help on inter library loans, shame about everything else.

UWE is a really caring university. They helped and supported my son throughout his 4 years there. The staff from tutors to well being team, student advisors have all been very helpful. Without their help and continued support I think my son would have given up.
I would definitely recommend this Uni.
My son has graduated with a bachelors degree with honours in Forensic science.
Thank you UWE for your support. From a parent.

My experience was of the roundabout before entering the campus. I enjoyed the roundabout thoroughly, but the experience only lasted 7 seconds. The lane markings were clear and concise, and led me on to the correct road. However when exiting towards the M32, please be wary of the build up of dirt on the offside that could cause sudden understeer.

Update 13 Oct 2020
The roundabout has now been re-sealed and fresh road markings have been painted. The build up of dirt mentioned above is now gone. Now a 5 star must see attraction in North Bristol

This just goes to show how effective reviews can be!

Horribly organised, nothing works concerning organisation and IT systems. People would try to help but more often give wrong informations. Only thing I learned so far is to critically assess anything I've been told!

Ok campus, nice new S.U but limited seating in it at busy times and food to expensive for students. Served regularly by a large range of buses although occasionally it can be hard to get one TO campus as they are too packed. 24hr library, although can be hard to get a desk.
Tutors seem hit or miss. Some very good teachers, whilst others appear to know their stuff yet struggle to convey this to a room of 50+ students. Some fit into neither of these categories. Imagine you find this at most unis but for the price of a course, should be addressed.

former students need to practise integrity and not make unfounded allegations about health and social work professionals. Loss of integrity is serious and some of your former students lack integrity and they work as 'lawyers' in regulatory discipline. teach your students about compassion and honesty.

UWE is the perfect university for people who want to work hard and play hard. It has a lot to offer, Modern computer systems, hill views but especially the diversity of the students here make it a memorable experience. Great Uni.

This is Glenside Campus, not St Matts.

This is Glenside Campus, not St Matts.
This campus is mainly for medical/hospital based studies like nursing, ambulance driving and radiography etc...

It's pretty far away from the city centre and the buses are not so reliable or frequent, I would definitely recommend bringing your car if you have one. You will have to pay for parking here so it might be easier to park outside then walk in.

great place to live as long as you get a decent sized room and hopefully you wont get stuck with a cupboard room (dont worry, doesnt happen often)
