I graduated from Wayne state university back in 1996, I received my master degree in computer engineering, I had great experience during school, I learned from great teachers, and worked in software development while in there, rich culture and the students diversity was amazing.

A great University ! I am a second year Masters student in Mechanical Engineering and I am having a great experience so far. Enthusiastic student organizations, active dining halls, diverse student body, highly research oriented academic institution creating wonderful graduates to serve the world by meeting its demands in a timely manner.
I can't wait for Google to allow NO STARS for their reviews. Wayne State University is THE WORST university in the country, possibly the world. A simple transcript request quickly becomes a nightmare if you have any issues online while trying to access it. ANY TIME I have to call WSU with a question I am ALWAYS on hold for at least 30 MINUTES!!! I can tell you from experience THE MOST IMPORTANT feature of a college or university is how quickly you can access information, and how quickly they are able to resolve issues. I graduated from WSU in 2001 and have NEVER been able to get through to them without MAJOR hassles every time I needed a simple transcript, a copy of a certificate, etc. THEY ARE HORRIBLE! CONSIDER SAGINAW VALLEY STATE UNIVERSITY, THEY ARE THE BEST!!
I spent one semester here and that was one semester longer than I should have. Completely disorganized, poor service, support, and care. There s a reason why they are one of the worst universities in the country in graduation rates. I went an hour down the road to UMich and obtained the best education in the country.
horribly expensive university. class material is never upgraded, still have black boards in class in this 21st century. professors are untrained and mostly they are students who don't even know what they are doing.
Wayne State University conducts VILE experiments on mans best friend!!! Dogs are TORTURED and DIE AGONIZING death s FOR NOTHING!!!!! It's TOTALLY UNNECESSARY!!!!!
I loved going to school here. Yes, the admissions process could've been a little smoother, but I received a high-quality education from professors who were driven to help their students succeed. I've managed to take my Bachelors in Information Systems Management and parlay that into an IT career that has seen me travel to various parts of the United States while consistently enjoying an upward salary. Further, I got to break out of my "Suburban Detroit" mentality and began to meet and befriend other people who weren't white heterosexual Catholics like myself, which opened my eyes to a broader worldview than what I had possessed before I began attending this school. I absolutely loved it here and miss the experience dearly. Thank you, Wayne State, for helping me become the man I am today.
Wayne State is often overshadowed by U of M and Michigan State. That goes for athletics, academic prowess, and the fact that it is in the very center of Detroit, a city that is really trying to be that much better. And it is. The same can be said about Wayne State. Architecturally, this place is incredible, (a literal sandbox of the famed architect Minoru Yamasaki and worth the visit literally for his buildings and reflecting pool alone). The professors are overall great and push their students for excellence. Unfortunately it is also a place where educational inequality prevails, with a lot of students transferring out, mainly due to systemic inequality in high schools. It is getting better but it is a long road. The "4 year degree" hasn't been achieved by everyone due to having students often "catching up" with core classes. That is the reality. However, if you do make it through, it is worth it. I want to one day see Wayne State placed in conjunction with the big 2 schools in Michigan.
I was at the intersection of w warren & cass ave. Waiting for the bus. It's a good spot thou because there are a lot of seats just in case you get tired of waiting on that west bound bus.
Good school but do not go to the computer clinic in the student center. I brought my laptop to them to supposedly make it like "brand new". 3 months later the place where I put the power cord does not work. I have to twist the cord (and this is a new power cord) in order for it to charge the laptop. Any slight movements and the cord will stop charging. It wasn't like this before I brought my laptop to them.
I attended Wayne State for one semester after completing my associate s degree.
The pros:
I loved the fact that there are so many professors on campus passionate about their work, I loved being in the culture of Downtown Detroit, The computer labs were great and I loved the Public Relations curriculum.
The Cons:
There is always some type of crime being reported on or around the campus. The fact that you have to pay so much for parking is asinine. Tuition is higher than schools like Eastern, and most professors are biased because they have their favorites
I wish that I could have completed my degree at Wayne State, but the lack of online classes and classes starting at 6p.m. made completing my degree practically impossible. Being a full time mother and a full time employee are two things you should not be if you are attending the university. There were even professors and advisors who stated that they were completing their efforts in higher education at other institutions because the university isn t fit for employed parents.
The campus is okay. Few problems to mention, before the good stuff. First, parking, very expensive, around $300+ a semester. Street parking is very hard to find, and most of the time people get ticketed in Detroit because of meters that do not work. Also, many towing companies will charge you over $500 to release your car back to you, without any warnings. Classes, many general classes are very large, and short in time. Even intro classes, many students end up falling behind, luckly I was able to keep up, otherwise many students withdraw or fail. Fees, there are many fees, almost $1,000 in fees that I have to pay each semester. Some of the good things are the campus is decent, the teachers are very experienced or have very good knowledge on the subject and are able to answer all your questions. Like my rating, overall it's okay. Nothing special.
Tried to call them to see if transferring there would set me behind. None of the advisers wanted to talk to me over the phone, they wanted me to come in and talk in person. Well, I am two hours away and that is not possible to be there during the week. After talking to the young man that answered phones in the advising office, he got very snappy with me and told me to "calm down" as I was asking if I could please just talk to someone to get things figured out. He was very rude and talked to me like I was an idiot. Once I finally got to talk to the adviser, she was very helpful and very polite.
Great university, I liked too much the time I studied there. And unlike most people think, Detroit is not that dangerous if you are smart enough to know that you're living in a big city.
I'm having trouble with my financial aid and have been trying to get ahold of someone in the financial aid office so I can ask some questions. I've been calling for four days now, and I stay on hold for 20+ minutes every time I call. It's absolutely ridiculous! I also emailed the student service center last week and haven't received a response! Thanks for nothing.
This university is a joke. The education they provide is pathetic and their welcome center staff is completely incompetent. I wish I had gotten my degree elsewhere.
Have associates degree from another college. Have been accepted to Wayne State. Saw an advisor and without looking at transcripts or anything was told that I don't have a chance at getting into the program of my choosing. Was given a flyer to another college. Since when does a college discourage accepted student from attending?
I received my MBA from there in 1992 and it was an excellent experience. To watch how the University has grown and improved, and how the neighborhood has sprung to life is heartwarming. I encourage every good student to take a close look at Wayne.
I don't even go here, but I went to go visit my girlfriend, and I was sitting in the library on the second floor of the UGL, and I was very unhappy with the chairs. You guys have a nice college campus and can't even get good chairs. I was very disappointed by the back problems I developed in the couples hours I was here by just sitting in of those black plastic roller chairs.
I cannot stand this college at all. My account has been on hold due to their financial aid for months now when it shouldn't have been in the first place. I already took a $3,000 loan out and had financial aid cover my classes for the semester and my account IS STILL ON HOLD DUE TO FUNDS! I've tried contacting financial aid office multiple times, and when asked to speak to the representative that has been working with me on it via email, THEY CANT TRANSFER PHONE CALLS. What kind of University is this? Do they have dinosaur phones?! And on top of it, the lady that I was working on this with via email took a WHOLE MONTH to finally respond to me only to ask if I could come into the financial aid office. And for what? To pay $25 parking, and then go into the office, only for them to tell me that they have found no records of any sort of my situation. I've even called all of the deans in the college and NO ONE WANTS TO HELP! And the funniest thing, is that they don't have a financial aid dean. LOL this school is a joke and I cannot wait to transfer out of it. To anyone whose thinking about going to this college, save your money and take your education elsewhere.
I was kicked out of the school of nursing for no good reason with a 3.4 gpa. This was near the end of the program. To give an instructor the power to fail a student from the program just because they don't like them is unethical, and unscientific. I graduated nursing school elsewhere, with honors. I passed the NCLEX first try. And, I've been a nurse nearly 10 years with a spotless record. Horrible policy.
Was seriously considering this college to complete my masters program at, however after trying 10 different contacts in attempt to ask a few questions on the program I was ignored and never received a response. I even tried visiting an on campus event which closed early and wouldn t give out the info they were in the middle of packing up. DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME WITH THIS PLACE FOR GRADUATE DEGREES!
Let me first say I do not go to school here and never have. My review is solely based on the appearance and upkeep of the surrounding area. I do have to say for being in the middle of downtown Detroit the campus is very well kept and very clean, at least from the outside. Your not far from food, shopping, entertainment, and all other basic day to day needs. The College and the City have done a good job over the years of making this area self sustainable. Also I would like to point out from my time around the campus it would seem to be a very well diverse school. Lastly the area in and mostly around the campus is safe and well patrolled by DPD. Of course this excludes the normal type stuff found at any larger campus in the middle of a big city.
My name is Min and my sales person was Kurt Hagemann and he was great! Buying a car from him was a great experience. Kurt went above and beyond to make sure I purchased the car I was most comfortable with. He gave me suggestions and his advice, but was in no way pushy what-so-ever. After I decided on a car the process was absolutely painless. So quick and professional. I felt like family by the end of the whole process! I would recommend Kurt Hagemann to anyone who is looking for BMW . Thanks Kurt Hagemann and A+++++ service.
Wayne State University is the Gem of Detroit. Leading research, Law School, Medical School, Business School, Engineering school and many more. Highly recommended. Best deal around. Great community. Come and be a Wayne State Warrior.
I am completely disgusted by the lack of organizations WSU put into their graduation ceremonies. Not only did the students feel that they weren't special during this very bittersweet moment they worked several years, countless amounts of sleepless nights due to studying, and overcome many difficult obstacles to enjoy this very special moment, they breezed through our names like they were just reading off a list of non-important individuals.. Not allowing us to even receive our diploma, without the next person in line being called... Not to mention, how can you slaughter the name Olivia... I have always worked two jobs to be able to afford WSU s ridiculous cost of tuition, to not only feel I wasn t special enough, but for them to slaughter the easiest name. I will never recommend this institution to any friends or family members. Thank you Wayne State for such a miserable memory!
I was admitted for their Masters' Program as resident of the state of Michigan (which makes all your fees at cheapest) although I'm not a U.S. citizen.. yet. Ain't that great!! Thank you Wayne State.
i study here because its near my house but now I feel very disappointed for choosing this place. Almost all the professors have zero teaching skills. They can't teach at all specially math department. Had calc 1 professor who just finished his Bachelor from wayne state. This guy could't teach and I had to suffer a lot. They get cheapest professor with no skills or experience.
