Friendly staff, clean and full of lovely animals up for adoption.
I have not adopted a pet there but I see no reason why I wouldn't.
I have to take a star off due to not being very reliable or responsive. While I get that Covid means w cannot go in and look there should be some changes made to the website to clarify
It needs to state that clicking and applying is to take the pet home ....I thought I was requesting to make an appointment to meet the two I was interested in. So I ve been approved for two and can t get anyone on the phone to clarify my questions or to set the appointment to pick up.
The front desk and adoption team don t have the same knowledge and the adoption team never answers there extension, so I m a little frustrated with that....I d even volunteer myself to help if they would have me! All in all they are awesome I think clear guidelines and expected time frame would be really helpful since it is no longer same day adoptions s , a simple update to the website would have prevented multiple emails and voicemails
I saw my review and I have no idea why I would give this Humane Society a 2 Star rating (sorry you guys). We have adopted 2 dogs there. Homer (black lab) was adopted in 2004 for my son's 4th b-day. Unfortunately, we lost him to a large growth in his belly in 2019. After a respectful mourning time, in the fall of 2019, we adopted Elmo (lhasa apso) as a companion for me. Both times we told them what kind of dog we were looking for (breed, size, playful and age) and eventually they were able to find exactly what we were looking for. Thank you Humane Society for Southwest Washington .
Yes, we will go back. Yes, we would recommend this place.
The employees here are very helpful and nice and the dogs look and act like they are very well taken care of. We adopted our newest family member from here and will absolutely be visiting this location for our next family member.
A wonderful place to find a new member of the family. Also a great place to volunteer.
I adopted my dog Cali from here & my cat Penelope. We will always #adopt from HSSW. It's clean & well maintained..very friendly staff and volunteers.
I recently had a precious furbaby go missing and the volunteers and staff here took such amazing care of her and I am so greatful to them words cannot express what I feel or the love I have for these people
Got our only child- Artoo from here last Nov 21st. Clean outside. Clean inside. May need more volunteers to allow the animals more time w humans and outdoors. From start to finish, the process was wonderful. They don t let just anyone adopt. They have to feel/know said animal will be well taken care of. Thanks for everything.
Get your pets here! We have adopted two wonderful and healthy pets here. And they are supportive and understanding if you have a lost pet and show up twice a day in tears checking for him and their joy is real when you finally find him.
You may need to be persistent if you are looking for something specific like a dog that is ok with small kids and cats but it's worth it. Keep checking the listings every day and show up before they open to get your name on the list for that animal because there might be multiple people looking for those specific traits. It took a couple of months for our big lab mix to come along and we ended up second in line, thankfully the first people chose not to take her home because I can't imagine our family without her now! If you don't have little kids and cats your choice is much wider, so may sweet dogs and cats need homes!
Found my two forever dogs. Although my first love had crossed the bridge. He will be forever in my heart.
Very rude lady at desk. Inquired about a cat that I was indeed prepared to adopt, wanted to get to spend time with. The paper on the cat listed that it wanted to meet children, but however...I was disqualified because I have children.....Tell me, how does one know exactly how a cat is with a child if it hasn't been seen with children. I've taken care of many of cats and I know my children. For a shelter to want to find homes for these animals, they sure don't act like it....at least the rude lady at the desk didn't...but whatever..keep your animals, I will take my business elsewhere.
We love to support our local humane society and all wish we could give homes to all the dogs!
I'm living on a small fixed income and the WSHS made it affordable for my cat to get shots and spayed. Thank u.
Such a scam. Make me adopt my cat that was already mine for 5 years that they took out of my driveway. The intersection where he was picked up at is my driveway. Such a crock and a waste of space. Terrible agency scam artist head quarters.
They ask for a 200 dollar or more fee just to adopt the dogs. I was in there when they had lab puppies, 600 dollars each.
This place is way too expensive. We got our puppy from Bangkok from a non-profit for way cheaper and he came with shots and was fixed. He was also flown into Sea-tac as well where we picked him up when we lived there. It's horrible how this place places large donation fees for puppies and less for older dogs. In Honolulu, where I'm from, any cat or dog is $50 at the Humane society and they come with initial shots and are fixed by vet students completing internships.
The staff is so nice and share great education and knowledge about adoption and on going care for your next animal!
They have lots of animals but want so much money for them. Not affordable.
Adopted my wonderful fur baby from them, but when they wouldn t warranty their own surgeon for his neuter it left a bad taste in my mouth. I got him help with a local vet and they had a credit arranged with them to help with it, but it was still $100 out of my own pocket IMMEDIATELY after adoption. Easy process though and everyone was super nice.
Great organization to work with. Fees are a little more than other area humane societies and rescues which can be prohibitive. But the staff is nice and the facility is well laid out.
Not very helpful, had to travel all the way to Portland to help the cats I found
Great great place to work volunteer or getting a new fur kid
There are cute pets and different pets and
Big ones and little ones and chubby and relaxing ones
My dog was in my front yard at 3:10 pm. By 3:15 he was missing. We found his photo on your website at 4:00. My husband went down there to retrieve him. Whomever he spoke with told him our dog was picked up and brought to your shelter by noon. That is an outright LIE. I work from home. I was here and so was my dog. Our dog is chipped. Why didn t we get a call from you? I don t know what kind of racket you guys are running there but we ll be retrieving our dog tomorrow. We ll pay the fee (ransom) and then you ll be hearing from our lawyer.
I brought in a stray I found on the street and they took him in and had his info in the system.
HI Chance,(once, yabo) and i are doing excellent. His training is proceeding and his level of learning, and ability to understand what I am asking astounding. His companionship is dear, he enjoys relaxing now and just sitting on couch with head sometimes whole body on my lap. He gives great hugs and likes lying right tight to my side at bedtime. His social visits with others are a lot more relaxed enjoying to sit on there feet and get a good rub on head and ears. Thank You, Team at HSSW again from both of us David and his puppy Chance, Chance and his boy David. :-)(-:
This organization is an excellent facility, clean, well kept & well staffed. It's easy to find, very accessible, & the staff are really helpful & knowledgeable about dropping off, or adopting, animals & pets.
Staff are very nice, and the place is mostly clean.
The adoption fees are expensive even compared to other humane societies.
I went yesterday to take a look for myself... there was a dog in there that had been for some time... it was sweet quiet and surely easy to handle, however its nails were nearly 2 inches long, it takes about 2 minutes to clips nails... also they put sensitive hearing dogs right next to the loudest most nervous pup I had ever seen. I am not sure about their practices with euthanasia but this place certainly needs a bit of an overhall. I'm not so sure that anything has changed since that last review
Found Goldie(Dog) an she is doing good. She gets along with other dog, 3 cats(she's just not sure what to think yet) and 6 rabbits. Goldie loves the big yard(about a 1/4 acre to run around in). She fits in perfectly. All other animals are rescued to. Thank you SW Humane Society for your annual event, Pets for Vets that you hold. My boyfriend got Goldie(Dog). She's a good girl and such a love.
We visited the humane society to kill time while we waited for the trafic to die down. We walked around and came across a number of dogs we like. With the help from the workers who where very knowledge of the dogs we where lucky enough to come home with our new best friend. He has become apart of our family. The humane society is very clean and well maintained. The workers are friendly and care deeply about the animals. I encourage everyone to check them out before you buy.
I adopted my senior cat Buddy here 3 years ago. He was called Sam then and hated the name. He loves his life and his family. They were wonderful when I took my other cats in and got them fixed. Friendly staff, good conditions for the pets, and they showcase animals that are less adoptable to give them a better chance. Please adopt! Don't shop.
I just visited their website looking at dogs. Maybe I'll go in and talk to them about adopting.
The website is very good and you can find out a lot.
I don't know what I was expecting but it was really nice
Be aware of undisclosed medical information when you adopt a cat or dog from here. We adopted a 2 yr old dog about a year ago. Shortly after adopting her, she started showing leg issues and we found out that she had severe hip dyplasia and arthritis in one hip. (She was surrendered back to the SWHS, so it's possible that her previous owners withheld this information and this is actually why she was returned.) None of this information was provided in her medical records. If you look back at her old photos provided by the SWHS, a trained eye can clearly see that something is off with her hip. All vets agreed that she absolutely had this injury prior to her time at the humane society. When I found out about her hip dyplasia, I emailed the SWHS seeking any advice/recommendations for surgery and I never got a response. Hip replacement surgery is a H-U-G-E cost and for her age and injury severity, it is really the only option. I would love to adopt again but this experience has jaded my views of the humane society and just how carefully they examine their animals (or how transparent they are with their medical findings.)
They take care of the animals very well and give each animal lots of love
We recently adopted a one year old dog from here. The staff was nothing short of amazing, And our experience couldn't have been better.
Lovely staff. Straight forward pet adoption. If adopting, bring your animal carrier with you.
Went here with my girlfriend a few weeks ago...she got the cutest cat....the staff were very caring, helpful and kind.
Shelter is nicely appointed. Adoptable animals are kept in excellent conditions while those behind the scenes are not so lucky. Adoption fees vary wildly and seem to be more of a sales tag than an adoption fee.
Staff here are friendly and courteous excellent experience everyone should adopt a pet! There's lots of good ones here.
The gentleman doing intake was amazingly helpful. He helped us get the assistance we needed and keep our fur baby healthy.
Everyone is very dedicated to giving all of our resident pets the very best care and we have some amazingly adorable pets waiting for a good home with people who are serious about spoiling their pets in a good way. :)
very nice facility they actually care for the animals
Amazing place, the staff is very good with the animals here. We adopted a dog that didn't end up being a fit, and they were very kind and understanding about the situation.
They do everything they can to care for and protect the animals and i am glad to be a part of that.
My girlfriend and I found a very thin cat under a neighbor's car. She wouldn't walk for than a foot before laying back down. We took her in and they admitted her quickly and did some quick tests. Turns out she is really old. I hope her family comes for her.
We recently adopted a dog from them, and I was very impressed! They and the facility are a step above other shelters. The staff is great, friendly, considerate, and really truly love their dogs. They have knowledgeable specialists and knowledgeable volunteers along with typical animal loving volunteers. They make it easy to contact them with questions and training (though we haven't had to use it). They have agreements with many different vets which was handy. We actually live in Portland, and I honestly liked them better than our Humane society. We went there because I found a dog online that I loved, but I am really glad we came to them!
Shocked that this place have a lot of pets to adopt, but the adoption fees are PRICEY! More animals would find a more permanent home.
Plenty of Healthy and Happy Animals and Plenty of Helpful People working with them and with the public 2 assist them.
Great place to volunteer. Great place to visit. Most of all a great place to find a new best friend and companion.
Love this place. Go rescue an animal. It'll make you feel better about you.
I am kind of disappointed in that within a week of adoption our new dog was diagnosed with giardia which added a 220 expense to treat, we had been warned that he was coming from a heartworm area and was treated as a precaution and suggested we continue the preventive measure. Now he has been diagnosed as having heartworms, pinworms, wheel worms and coccidiosis which has meant more Veterinary expense. We do not have other pets and he has not been around any other animals so they are not the source. I thought that animals from the humane society were given a clean bill of health.
Good selection of animals to adopt and well maintained facility. My only concern was that it was super crowded on Friday and we had to wait in a long line to speak with a staff member.
Great place to adopt and enjoy spending time with future furry family members! My husband and I go periodically just to look and on slow days we like to grab a dog and play. ;) Highly recommend this humane society to find an animal. Their fees go entirely back to the care and support of the animals and for who ever doesn't know, they have the 'Retails' shop set up in the adjoining building so the public can support them by buying items for their homes while contributing to our local humane society and rescue groups!
I thought that the humane society had a good variety of nice and well trained animals.
Great organization, they were very helpful when we adopted our rescue love in May 2019. I like that they allow a brief hold on a pet you're interested in, and if it doesn't work out (which could happen for many reasons) they apply your fees up to 30 days to another adoption.
This humane society is set up nicely. There are separate areas for adoptions and lost and found. Keep that in mind when visiting. The staff was very friendly, compassionate, and helpful. The facility smelled as clean as it could (all things considered) and was tastefully decorated for a humane society. I did not spend much time looking around the kennels as I was just there to submit a lost pet claim.
Place is amazing. Animal lovers heaven. Lots of options.
Great staff, excellent ideals, amazing treatment of the animals (all things considered).
This shelter seems to be running very well. They keep it very clean and focused. The management here must be pretty experienced to keep the volunteers and the workers here on track. It can get pretty chaotic with all the people and animals. A little bit excessive on the paperwork when you adopt an animal but that's the way our society is heading.
Because they didn't help me and they were very rude
Got my cat here last year. Love the donation trailer for the ReTail store that helps support their efforts. One of my favorite charities to give to.
Brought home a kitty same day. Staff was friendly and helpful.
