Attending this high school was an opportunity that I would not have had if I went somewhere else. The academics are hard but they help you develop good habits. I met a lot of nice people and made good friends. The school is pretty diverse, so you will be able to meet different types of people and discover different types of cultures. I enjoyed going to this high school and couldn't imagine my high school experience anywhere else.

Most schools (like my former elementary school) overestimate Walnut Hills. Yes, there's no such thing as an easy class, nor is there an extremely difficult class as long as you ask any questions you have or go to help night. Also, I'd like to debunk the sentence "Latin is too hard". It doesn't have to be if you study or, as I advised earlier, go to a help night.

What I have learned from Walnut:

What I have learned from Walnut:
No matter which schools you are considering, always look beyond the test scores and surface images.

Pros:
* Because of Walnut's method of obtaining the highest scoring test takers in the district, and what has resulted from that, the Walnut name is well known for their academics, and therefore will look "good" on college applications.
* Because of Walnut's high scores, the school and students are offered more readily opened doors to some scholarship and academic opportunities, which may not be as easily accessible in other schools within the district.
* They have a large variety of sports and clubs
* A variety of fundraising events
* Lots of opportunity to be involved
* A good selection of AP classes

Note: The curriculum of the AP classes that are offered at this school is the same at any other school that offers that same AP class. This is true because all AP classes prepare the student for a national AP exam in that particular subject, which is standardized across all states. Some of the teachers may produce a well orchestrated class environment that is conducive to student's learning more than what is needed for the exam. Some teacher's will have little ability or desire to teach beyond the exam, and some teachers will not even teach what is required to pass the exams. This is true for all class levels, not just AP. In general, the lower the class level, the less effort you will see put forth by most teachers. This is very common in the education system, not just at Walnut, and is an important concept to understand when choosing a school so you are not swayed by appearance.

* An attractive, clean campus
* Convenient location
* Like many schools, a select number of teachers are willing to go above and beyond the minimal requirements of their responsibilities.

Amazing school, however your kid has to be really smart to do well. Easy to get in even with the test, but not so easy to shine. Curriculum makes you work hard to prepare you for college. If your kid is a lackey, he/she will hate this place.

I go to Walnut Hills High school and i believe that is is a very effective school in a positive manner. Especially because it is the number one school in Ohio. You may dislike it because your probably never went to that school. The environment at times can be dangerous but we are always safe within the building. Also only the marijuana clothing is a small issue but can be fixed by a simple dress code report.

Year after year voted as one of the top 30 public high schools in the country. To put that in perspective, there are 1,245 public high schools in Ohio alone. It is ranked # in Ohio. It is almost a perfect balance of 46% male, 54 % female and 43% minority. All students take Latin . great sports. Beautiful historic campus. Near Xavier University.

This school is amazing. It has tons of extracurricular activities, just about every sport you can think of, and amazing staff. You may find a few teachers that you don't like but for the most part the teachers are pretty amazing. They offer 5 different modern foreign languages and Latin. They offer tons of AP classes. The student body is pretty diverse which some people may not like but in my opinion, it's a good thing. You can meet people from all different cultures and religions. You can meet people with all different interests. Thete is friend for everyone. Although the student body may be quite large, making it hard to get around the hallways, the experience you get from going to school there is worth the traffic jam in the hallways. This traffic jam may be intimidating to younger students but they will get used to it.
