This company is more of a you're lucky to be here than a we're lucky to have you type of employer. 10 months after I put my application in they finally invited me to 20 hours of unpaid training. Some of the people in this class had been waiting even longer. Starting pay is 18.50, which the HR rep who visited was bragging that they're one of the best paying jobs in the low country. If they select you for hire after your week of unpaid training, well then the real fun begins. People will call from different agencies asking for you to send them your previous year's w-2 and/or current paystubs. THEN you go to to Concentra Urgent care, take a physical, eye exam, hearing exam and drug test... all while still not having received a dime. Then they send you an email and you have to reapply directly through Volvo. And THEN you have to go into the employee wizard and fill out more paperwork including bank information etc for direct deposit a week before you start. Took 8 months to get to this point. The window to get all of this done is too small and too much to try and do if you're still working a job that's actually paying you. The leasing program is better than MBV, but MBV pays better and is ultimately the better place to work.
This is Volvo Car's first US factory and they have built a magnificent facility!
Good benefits and good starting pay. If you have a life or family outside your job, then no need applying here. Managment in the work shops only care about making themselves look good and nothing more. They do not care about employee safety or quality of the cars that leave the shop. They try to hide issues that will stop production lines or any safety issues. If you go to HR about anything regarding management. HR sweeps it under the rug and tells management they have people telling on management, resulting in management retaliating against the person reporting them. If you have a family emergency or issue outside work and have proper documents showing it. They will still give points for leaving. Favoritism is very high there. Volvo cars Charleston gets rid of people with experience and hires majority of people with no experience so their is no issue on what's the correct way to do things. I have never seen a company that tries so hard to try interfere with the employees by booting employees vehicles due to the lack of parking and calling the cops to sit on the roads to watch the employees. The security that is in charge of campus tries to act like they are the police whether they shooting radar guns at your vechile to see if your speeding and writing notes on your vehicles because your were speeding to booting your tires because your tire is on the white line of the parking space. If anyone says that its wonderful place with no flaws, then they must be working in the office part. It has become a revolving door for employees.
