Guacamaya Fresh Mex Reviews

My wife and I have tried this place twice over the span of about a month. Both times, we have been disappointed, especially our second visit, which I will describe below. First, they have four or five humongous TV monitors behind the cashiers that are supposed to show their menu, but they apparently don't work and have yet to be fixed in the month between our first and second visit. So, we ordered using a paper menu, which were rather sparse in number, on the counter. Then I went to get some utensils and the automatic fork dispenser wasn't working, though there were some batteries sitting on the counter nearby. On the bar, next to their margarita mixers, was a big Bojangles box. I don't know why that was there. Collectively, these issues (one of which wasn't resolved from our first visit) suggest a lack of overall professionalism. The 90.5 sanitation score they currently have suggests I'm not the only one to feel this way. The food itself was OK, at best. In my case, I got some crunchy ground beef tacos, which had plenty of ground beef and the ground beef was good. But, they had next to nothing for lettuce or cheese in them. I don't know how it is possible to screw up making a taco, but IMO they found a way. Finally, the staff, while generally polite, looked rudderless. The only thing this place has going for it is the upscale location that they are in, but I don't think that will mean much if they don't resolve their professionalism and food prep issues. We wish them luck, but we won't be back.

What is wrong with you people!! I keep trying to love it. I used to sit at the bar and get good service and a very good value beer and meal. Tonight I sat there...and sat there...to eventually be told (I had to flag someone down) that you don't do bar service. Please get some staff that know what they are doing or train them. I went someplace else for dinner.

This is Chubby's Tacos... I get asked a lot what is different about it, and the answer is very little. Very nice location (fairly upscale), and has a nice bar.

Stopped in for lunch and had some tasty tacos. Good atmosphere with a full salsa bar. Friendly staff, will be back for more!

This joint is owned by Chubbys Tacos. This is the 2nd time we have been disappointed by the food here. Bland tasteless food. The quesadillas were horrible. The chimmi changas lacked flavor. They mixed up chicken order with beef!

Top it off with sub par service and rude staff....and you have got yourself a restaurant thats doomed to fail. Did I mention the AC was not functioning when there was 100 degree heat outside? Spend your money somewhere else. This restaurant does not deserve your hard earned money.

Good food, great price! Huge burritos, fresh salsa.

One star for closing at 8pm every night and having the chairs stacked up on the tables at 7:45pm. What time do people typically eat dinner...? Every other restaurant around it is busy so I don't get it. We tried to go twice but both times it was empty with chairs being stacked on tables. Change the hours and make it more inviting.

Nice lunch spot, a good salsa bar and various dishes. Not fully authentic but not loaded with cheese either.

The past two times visiting the restaurant have been exponentially better. The blond-haired cashier was friendly, welcoming and even helped us without being asked. This is a big change from the service I had been receiving from a short-statured lady who worked as the shift manager during most of my visits. The food was good as always, and the service was much better than I expected this location to ever achieve! Keep up the good work with the hospitality-trained cashiers and other workers. :-)

The food was ok, but this place has other problems. The layout is confusing. The menu is more confusing, and the order taker just assumed that we wanted refried beans when my son didn't specify.

Have you ever been to a place where the process of ordering and getting your food is just so awkward that it drives you away? This is that place.

There's been a sign for 4 weeks now that says they will be closed for 1 week. Bummer.

Food lacked in taste in every way but the service is much worst.

The food is good but the service is generally poor. Requests for fountain machine refills when it is empty are literally frowned upon. The cashiers don't know which bar drinks they sell and seem annoyed when you walk to the cash register to order.

Great when they're open. Guacamaya is like an abusive lover. They have the best burritos but man it's like they're closed for no apparent reason for weeks at a time when we make the trek from North Raleigh to get their food. At least post on your Facebook page, or better yet just remain open like a real business. There's nothing more irritating than driving all the way out for a burrito to find you're randomly closed AGAIN. It happens all the time. This time (weds 4/19/17) they were closed "today and this week for maintenance" with all lights off and no one inside. They've been randomly closed before for "repairs" and nonexistent "inclement weather." Gotta be open to make money guys.

Food was alright but service was fantastic! My server (named Patrick I think?) was quite the gentleman! Astounded by the service. 10/10 would recommend.
