Amazing drinks. Cool people. Variety of seating options.
Cannot write enough wonderful things about this place! Came here on day two of my romantic speakeasy/bar-hopping trip with my boyfriend. It was our first stop in the afternoon. The decor is delightful and endearing. The menus are incredible and so fun to read!! They were probably my favorite part. The service was amazing, a server came over just to say hello and welcome us to the establishment, a rarity in Los Angeles. Our drinks were delicious. The lighting through the glass front wall had a sort of rosy effect on the whole place. We didn't eat here but the food looked good, although there menu is small, so you may want to check it out first. I will definitely be coming back here. If I lived in the area, I would be in there all the time. I highly recommend across the board!!!
Looking to grab a drink or two, make sure to check this place out ;)
I was meeting a few friends to celebrate a birthday, I got there a tad earlier just to check the place out. It's located right off the Main Street with street parking all around. It does not have a sign of business name so it is possible to pass up but if you pay close attention and look at the top it has art work of an Umbrella at the top front of the entrance.
The atmosphere and environment is so cool, relaxed and laid-back, it's very cozy for a date night or even a group gathering. The feel to the place is very modern rustic and lots of cool decor. The staff was very friendly and welcoming. It was a Saturday night and the crowd was just starting to arrive, lots of locals and hipsters. DJ does come on a little later at about 9:30-10pm and plays some unique old hits. The bartenders were super cool in explaining a few drinks and the top sellers, of course I had to go with a drink they suggested ;)
A couple of cool things, tables by the bar and dance floor are first come first serve, they don't/won't hold them for anyone but there is also tons of standing bar space and outdoor space to smoke and hang out. They have a Coffee hub located right behind the big main bar, they also work with the restaurant located towards the back of the dance floor, so the restaurant makes the appetizers for the bar and the bar makes the drinks for the restaurant. Unfortunately I did not get to try the food at the restaurant but it sure did smell good, the staff did mention that it does get busy so it's best to make reservations if you are ever interested in dinning there. If you check out the dinning let me know how it was ;)
Enjoy!
I dropped in to see what was the hype about this venue
The service was deplorable
Service Person insisted that she have my credit card for a single drink
Then set the cocktail on the table without a word So Ok
..
It s not the dining or the bar experience it s supposed to be
Its horrible
6 stars: for the immaculate design, impeccable cocktail menu, and absolutely amazing staff and management. Keep on keepin' on.
Service is always good. Tacos are huge & margaritas are tasty. The only 2 things that disappointed me both times I visited is that they overloaded the margaritas with huge cubes of ice. I honestly had 4 sips of my margarita and it was empty. Also, how are you going to have fries on the menu but no ketchup in the restaurant?
So fun! Went here for a mini birthday celebration back in November. The staff was knowledgeable and helpful in making a selection and the drinks did not disappoint. The ambiance was great and it's a quick walk from the brown line. Highly recommend for cocktail lovers!
Great history about the founders. Yummy rum. Knowledgeable help! Friendly people. Lively. Great drinks!!!
Really delicious cocktails and excellent service. I'm usually more of a beer drinker, so I'm never sure what to get when I have cocktails, but there's literally no way you could go wrong with ordering any of the cocktails here.
Great vibe, decor and music was a rare find in LA on a Friday night! My friend celebrated his bday and we loved jamming out to oldies! Highly recommend
Hands down the best bartenders in town!!! Similar to good times at davey waynes the music theme here was 60s up to 80s. Drinks were strings and the bartenders were awesome! My favorite was Ryan he made ev everyone feel welcomed and he took care of each and single person even though it was busy
North Center / Ravenswood's hidden gem!!! Don't tell your friends because I want to go there as well. Small and super personal cocktail bar ran by 3 lawyer brothers. Highly recommended for the neighborhood!!!
Desserts are made here. They are the most carefully presented I've had in the city without pretention. Happy hour chicken sandwich rivals Popeyes .There's a great chef in the kitchen. Great drinks up front. Was really happy I came here when my day was in need of such an experience. Top notch service. Intelligent and beautiful bartenders. Thank you for keeping me cool on such a hot day Umbrella Co.
Excellent music, excellent drinks. 90s punk, through early 2000s hip hop great mix that made everyone sing along.
Great cocktails, hardwood floors and ceilings, casita vibes, pueblo bonito!
Neat rustic cocktail bar. Great decor, great drinks. Get the burger! It's insane.
Loved the bar. Really good live music, extremely friendly bartenders climbing up and down the shelves looking for the most extraordinary liquors for their cocktail creations.
Cool place! LA images projected onto the back wall which is cool. Wasn't too crowded for a Friday night.
Dark ambience, live music & range of crafty cocktails to chose from. It could be just a little crowded if you were looking for a silent or romantic night.
I was here for my birthday this past summer. Cool environment, super friendly bartenders, and great drinks
The Melrose Umbrella Co is cool. I had heard about it from some friends. I enjoyed the menu and the vibe. Get used to the sometimes annoying older guys trying to pick up younger girls but otherwise it is a fine place for a drink.
Hello loves, A friend wanted to go on Melrose for a certain look he was thinking about for his birthday but, did not find it... So he wanted a cocktail and asked if I wanted i really did not. We're walking back toward the car and a place to pop in for champagne, we happened upon this place ... it is totally not my type/ kind of spot ... We go in, there are some people there at the bar and a few tables a guy pops up from one of the tables says hello (he was nice) and ask have we been there before (my friend went directly to the bathroom upon entering, so he has two menu's opened one to explain about food / cocktails and it was so dirty and looked like it was hung up to dry after someone spilling a drink. The nice guy hands me one of the menu's I said no I don't want it it dirty he said it's a bar and people spill drinks haha thank you but, no thank you. My friend came out the bathroom we sat at the bar. This place was Dusty! Needed a really good cleaning wipe down etc. The look and they were going for was vintage very old but, you can still do that look and have it nice and clean. My friend ordered his drink which he thought was champagne and added st-germain and a splash of something else, it was not champagne and how we found out because he wanted me to order a drink so I said fine I'll take a champagne which one is the best to have and he said oh we have this it's not champagne but it's a sparkling wine I said okay I'll take that it was good, I know champagne is made in France and it's still grapes it's still sparkling wine but there is a difference. Laugh
Listen this may be your type of spot it wasn't mine the guys are friendly there they are nice.
I would totally redo that place and have it still a vintage look that they would love that's what I do for a living.
Great cocktails and friendly and knowledgeable mixologists
Because the shelves are pretty well arranged that means less chaos and that's pretty good in my book. I highly recommend this place for a productive search for umbrellas selection. one thing is that the colorful selection is an advantage if you are not looking for boring styles. Of course if you happen to travel to Mexico you can use these umbrellas for sun protection.
The Chorizo Burrito is out of this world along with some fine cocktails!
Seriously some of the most creative cocktails I've had! It's a small space, but love the vibe here. The staff are usually really nice and try very hard to attend to everyone even when they are busy. Definitely one of the must-check bars in CA!
I am so happy I came to this place! My co-workers and I were attending the TWIN PEAKS POP UP BAR, which by the way was TERRIBLE!!! But, once we stepped over to the actual Melrose Umbrella, everything changed, day and night difference! Our server was awesome! She was so nice and sweet. She definitely took care of us! The vibe is very cool and laid back. They have an awesome drink selection. The drink are really good. Everyone is great here! Definitely recommend.
Spent a great afternoon here. The bartender and wait staff took great care of us which only improved the general ambience. Would highly recommended the Collins and mac & cheese (maybe the best I've ever had). All around a lovely experience.
The burger was ok but the kale salad wasn t
Don t order their salads..
Sometimes, when you're driving home from a stressful day at work, your hands wander to your phone to search Yelp for a great place to get a drink. (At least, that's what I've heard. I myself would *never* even touch my phone while driving, since it's against the law.)
Great selection of cloths. We got a few items to wear. Descent prizes in comparison to the area. Super friendly service!
Beautiful place and awesome cocktails. The music is hot or miss.
Great drinks, super trendy spot. Good for a late night drink
Some of the most amazing drinks ever, on top of an already amazing vibe
Love their Togo cocktails and their Pina colada road sodas!!!
One of the coolest bars I've been to. Lots of wood accents and old-timey chairs create a chic vibe and throwback atmosphere. We didn't have food, but the cocktails were incredible and some of the best we had in LA. Boozy, artisanal drinks and some modern twists on classic cocktails. The bartenders were all super friendly and very knowledgeable, with good recommendations about things to try. Happy hour was fun, will definitely be back.
Great cocktails, I got the All About That Bass, terrible song but excellent drink.
A little on the pricey side at 15 dollars but definitely worth it!
If you re looking for a casual but sexy hang out with top notch drinks, this is the place. The interior of the historic building is breathtaking and the quality of the cocktails matches. The bartenders were wonderful hosts and took great care in handcrafting each delicious concoction. We were planning on only having 1 drink but ended up staying for 3 or 4 rounds. This is great atmosphere to come and hang for a while.
The ambiance is spectacular. The drinks have cool literary names and there are ACTUAL Books HERE THAT YOU CAN READ. the lighting is low and romantic. And the service is great. I loved coming here. Its been two times so far. Its walking distance from the train so easy to get to and from.
Great whiskey sour but when it gets crowded not easy to get a drink. Servers make good cocktails but with a little bit of an additude.
Fun bar with retro music. Dance floor in the back gets packed.
Excellent attentive service from Blaire, she is awesome! Mgr came over to offer waters etc after seeing my sisters glass was empty. I had a custom Manhattan made to perfection, sis had some cold pressed coffee that was quite a energy boost...all in all a very special evening enhanced by Melrose Umbrella Co pitstop...amazing ambiance too, kudos to the interior designers. Its a tricky location, just look for the Music Academy its rt downstairs...
Really nice people..greeted me as soon as i walked thru the door
Sooooooooo cute!! Nice hole in the wall we found on new years eve
Love this place! Their drinks, food and ambience were so much fun. The bartenders were friendly and clearly enjoyed making good cocktails. If you're a mezcal fan definitely get the Mezcali mi banana, my favorite mezcal drink I've had so far.
There are so many craft cocktail/gastropub type places everywhere now. But I can't get this place out of my mind! +Ambiance. Gorgeous. Love the vintage, rustic and hipster vibe. My friend explained to me the history behind the place and the historic old umbrellas. Very cool! It's a great place to catch a drink with a few friends or perhaps with a date. +Food. You order food and it comes from the Grilled Cheese place next door.
It's definitely hearty pub food at it's finest. +Drinks. Drinks. Drinks. The drinks here are AMAZING! They are different and memorable.
I had the Romance without Pressure and Croatian Vacation. Both were incredible. I learned that Croatian Vacation was created at a competition and the mixologist won for it. And I am not surprised.
The careful balance between sweet and sour, fruit and floral, is insane. I'm still thinking of the drinks here. +Service.
We were waited on and they were nice, what more could you ask for?
This place is really really awesome! The night scene is really fun and trendy. Not pretentious at all. The bartenders are extremely Knowledgeable mixologist and will make you the best drinks. Usually I tell them my liquor of choice and tell them to surprise me and I've never been disappointed.
If you go in the day you have to meet an awesome bartender named Sam. He's super fun to chat with and the bar turns into a cozy homey spot. They serve coffee and food but if you're feeling naughty they serve alcohol when they open. It's hard to find bars in the morning on a weekday, but sometimes you just need a drink haha
We went to the cellar to celebrate our anniversary. The service was one of the best and I was very happy with the food too. We ordered cellar escargot, lobster bisque, chefs cut (I believe it was ribeye), elk tenderloin, sauteed brussel sprouts, chocolate souffle with seasonal anglaise (raspberry? Can't recall) and vanilla souffle with grand marnier.
First the pros, bartenders are all very friendly attentive and for the most part talented. Drinks are very good and the bar has a cool vibe and is mostly clean.
Now the cons, the clientele is weird. The bar doesn t seem to have a defined crowd. It s always a crapshoot and I ve seen couples crying going through a breakup and weird people singing/practicing theater. Three times now I ve run into the same super loud annoying blonde girl named Jesse who basically just flirts with the bartenders.
I have found it s very fun on Friday s but Saturday and Sunday are a gamble. It s worth a shot if you re dying for a good drink in Hollywood
Don t waste your time. Trying to be cool. Coasting off past success lame vibe and bad drinks.
Love the vibe and rotating menu. The drinks are always perfect!
Great food! Great service! Amazing environment! The price is affordable for the amount of food they give you. Ohh and let me not forget to mention Unlimited salsa and chips! They're salsa bar offers a varsity of choices and it is also FRESHHHH! They only down fall is that sometimes the wait can be up to 1 hr 40 sometimes but it all depends on what time you go and how big your party size is. Please try this place soooooo BOMBBBBB!
The food here is awesome. I ordered a Burger, IPA, MAC N Cheese and to finish it off with a Fernet Branca. The coffee and vibes here are great. Can t wait to visit again!
Incredible cocktails. And the grilled cheese is excellent.
Overpriced sure, but where are you going to take your dates?
This place will do for an umbrella.
One of my new favorite cocktail bars in Hollywood. You have to love the atmosphere of the old-school 1920's look and feel of the place to the hanging umbrellas all around. Seating is limited so try to RSVP ahead of time or be okay with standing around near the bar. The bartenders were friendly and there was some live music on a Tuesday night. Parking-wise, valet is your best bet for about $5 (limited street parking).
Their drinks are strong and delicious (they also have a limited menu from the grilled cheese shop next door). The best drink I was the p.i.e., literally a cocktail that tasted like a sweet but not overwhelming pie. Also recommend the ginger shot if you can. Love it's presentation, even with its bitter aftertaste. Cost-wise, it's about $12+ per cocktail.
Chill bartender solid cocktails, food looked great. Thanks for the hospitality.
This bar is a cozy getaway. A real gem on Melrose which is a must visit. The drinks are creative and fairly priced. The atmosphere is unique and a throwback to other times. You will not be disappointed.
It was a nice spot. Nothing too special but a beyond-the-conventional cocktail bar.
What an awesome find this place was. Exceptional cocktails and GREAT food. The fried chicken sandwich was one of the best I've had anywhere.
Rocco behind the bar was a delight to interact with and came up with creative delicious cocktails when we asked for something off menu or for his take on a classic.
Absolutely worth stopping in or going out of your way to try.
Love this place. The drinks are amazing and now coffee drinks during the day. A must.
These guys are the best. Jamie is so pleasant at the take out window. They have a great selection of drinks and treats to take away as you stroll down Melrose.
Ask the guy about the history of this place. FASCINATING! Had the house daquiry. It was DELISH. Nice spot and love the atmosphere.
This place is amazing, GREAT COCKTAILS! The food is delicious, I recommend the Niebe (black eyed peas dish) with lamb and ask for the spicy sauce. The coconut rum is unlike any rum you've ever had!
If you like snow cones instead of cocktails, this is the spot! All cocktails are served with a heaping cup of crushed ice. The drinks are only filled to a third of the glass. Been to hundreds of bars around the world including numerous speak easy, craft cocktail type bars. This is the only place that serves drinks this way. 2 stars for the booze flavored snow cones and location. Cheers!
One classy dive for sure. Strong drinks and then it gets fuzzy...
This place is spacious with a second floor for a more intimate setting. It was a diverse crowd from small to large groups and friends hanging out to couples making googly eyes. I had a side of truffle fries which I demolished and a cute little drink that was Melrose Umbrella Co. worthy.
Cool vibe and great drinks. Theme and decor are interesting. Prices are reasonable.
Cool bar! Friendly staff, great cocktails and really cool atmosphere. We loved the music. The buffalo wings, fries and cauliflower were delicious. I was visiting CA and I'm so happy we stoped by. Definitely a cool hang out place to relax!.
Very nice atmosphere on the back patio, dog friendly and a very interesting drink menu! If you use a wheelchair like I did, have someone in your party alert the hostess to open the door from the back alley!
